  1. Hello again :) as some may know I am working on a 2003 Ballabio. Slowly rebuilding and replacing needed parts. I have two questions that I have been searching for answers on and have not found any relative information on, so hoping some of you may be able to chime in!

First, I am replacing the stock speedometer with a smaller digital unit. I can set the Hz frequency on it to calibrate the speed setting. Is there any information out there that tells us what the Hz frequency is on the V11? The speedometer comes preset to 46.6Hz which I have read is equal to around 60KPH. I suppose I could use a GPS speedo on my phone and raise/lower the Hz setting in the speedo to get it to match my phone as close as possible...

Second, I have worked on many bikes where the ECU has to have the original speedometer in place to start/run the bike. It uses it has a handshake to tell the ECU all is good to go and the machine can be started. Will I have any issues with not using the stock instruments?

I see a ground wire lead coming from the speedo, the headlight plug, I assume the two leads for the signal indicators and then the main dash plug. Just seeing if there are any wires or things that need to be salvaged from the speedo to accommodate a new speedo working.

Ive seen a lot of builds with aftermarket clusters so know it can be done...Thanks!

Killer deal! I would almost see if someone might want to make a cast of it or measure the coordinates for a CNC duplicate. We're all one get-off from needing another timing cover.

Yes, worked out well. Just waiting for shipment. Already have the new seal and gasket :)

Thanks Max I've tried everywhere in Europe with no luck, I've listed the bike on Ebay UK to try and cut my losses but will keep looking or get it welded in the mean time

Right on mate, best of luck. I have a mate in Italy that may be able to help? I can shoot you over the links he sent me. Looks like two v11's being sold for parts.

  4. Hi all! Does anyone happen to know what the bar/PSI rating is on the in tank style fuel pumps? My 2003 V11 Ballabio brittle quick disconnect fittings are broken, the red and white ones on the pump plate. I’m having the pump plate machined to accept new threaded fittings. I’ve done this in the past with great results on another project. I am also going to install new inline 5/16 fuel line quick disconnects but don’t want to get some that cannot handle the psi of the injection system. I see some steel ones that look sweet but at $40 per that’s a tad high. There’s also cheap plastic ones but don’t want to cause a burst! Any info would be great!

    cheers

  5. Big thanks to @footgoose I emailed AF1 Racing, Ed confirmed with me they have one left in stock here in the US. I just ordered it. Brand new for $150...This was cheaper then some of the quotes I was getting for welding my broken one. Good piece of mind to know it's properly fixed and replaced. Now, to sell my take off parts to recoup damages haha.

Now, we still need to find one for @Steve S :mg:

    Cheers!

Well, the side covers still say V11 Sport. It's the year (long frame) and sub-model that make the difference.

maxv11, what color is the tail fairing?

Ok good info, thanks! The tail fairing is a dark gray...almost black color. I need to figure out how to scale down my images to less than .2mb for here.

There is another vendor who may be able to help (both of) you!

Located in Germany, but currently closed for another month (14-03 they open again).

    https://smotos.de/ersatzteile/motorenteile-kurbelwellenlager-kurbelwellen-ventildeckel-nockewelle-oelwanne-oelpumen/

Scroll down to "Motor-Steuer-Deckel Stirndeckel". There are two, one grey one (first) and one black one (second). Both are used parts.

    Good luck.

Nice find mate, still damn pricey plus shipping and import but may be the ticket. I have a friend in Italy who found on a website two V11's being parted out! He is going to contact the seller for me and see what they'd like as well. Cheers

So, just to clarify, a "Sport" and a "Ballabio" have some significant differences.  Especially the mounting of the headlamp and instruments. Sports are fork mounted and Ballabio are frame mounted.

    Which-what are having at, here?

My apologies. This model as frame mount headlamp and instrument cluster. A big cast bracket that is bolted to the main frame. I edited it. Thanks mate for letting me know! Still new to this 😉

Maybe you contact Stein-Dinze in Germany or TLM in The Netherlands. Maybe they know where to find one. I know about TLM that they buy old bikes and sell it for parts. And their network is large. I did look in some different shops here in the Netherlands but nothing.

Thanks for checking mate, I can contact those two places you mentioned and see if they have hands on one..now two perhaps.

Made a start on my greenie restoration and guess what? broken engine mount n/s only one bolt holding the engine in, so we now need 2 timing covers

Sorry for the news mate. I wish I had access to a 3d scanner and could have someone aluminum print us them! Would honestly be cheaper than getting a used one...that's already broken haha.

Before you go any further I'd check the frame carefully to make sure it's still true. Spineys crash badly and if it's bad enough to smash the timing chest it may well of banana'd the frame.

Thanks mate, the frame has been thoroughly checked over and measured out. All seems to be in check...

  13. So is it 100% confirmed that a G5 V1000 timing cover won't fit this motor? Just curious...I am new to MG and don't know much about the differences unfortunately. Other than seeing that they look identical other then the two frame mounting holes. I understand the G5 uses a different alternator but didn't know if it's cover would house a V11 alternator ok.

    Thanks!

That is also a Tonti frame motor so wont have the mounting boss for your V11..Have you tried a dealer to see if the part is available new?

the crack you have fairly common on a crashed V11, see another broken one here,

Yeah I almost pulled the trigger on a V1000 G5 cover. After realizing they have no upper mounts and the stators are different.

WA? Western Australia? Lotsa bush mechanics that can make it like new. Washington State? A veritable plethora of good welders. Go to a welding supply shop and ask them who's the best. Or a hot rod shop, as cast alloy transmissions housings break and need welding.

Yup, Washington state. I emailed a few recommended shops. NWFab and Precision Machine. I live in Bellingham, WA so not a ton of welders. I may have to ship the cover to Seattle and have a shop repair it.

I tried searching the part number from the 1999-2001 V11 (GU01001400) briefly, but nadda.  I would venture that the timing cover is the same for SPOrT 1100, 1100 Sport-i as well as V11 through the entire 1999-2005 series with changes to the part number for paint finish.

A little fishing for the various parts numbers might yield more searchable options, even if the cover need a refinish . . .

Right on, I did this for a bit too which led me to checking out that V1000 cover then to find that the G5 doesn't use the same mounts :(  I believe you may be correct the most V11 covers are the same or similar...

It is a rather unfortunate location for a load-bearing mount point, Nevertheless, live near an airport? Hiring an airframe & powerplant welder would probably be expensive, but very good. As well, there may be spots on the cover, internal or external, for reinforcement plates or ribs to be added. A little smoothing and paint will make it less noticeable once done.

Yeah, no bueno mate. I will search around my area for someone who has experience with welding cast aluminums!
