  1. Yes, but I had good drugs, I think. I actually didn't have any pain, neither at the accident site (shock, adrenaline, and what the ambulance folks gave me...) nor at any time afterwards. Lucky, I guess.

What is left over: the sensitivity in the right forefinger is buggered. On top of the injury from the accident, there is the results of getting it jammed in a schoolmate's locker door when I was about 15 (my own stupidity, being a smartarse...), and the classic symptoms of a C5 - C6 slipped disc, which makes the forefinger, middle finger and thumb on the affected side numb. So doing up M4 screws is a bit of a fiddle.

The worst (although bearable. Well, nearly...) is that the left hand is now quite weather sensitive, and the scar where the plate in the left wrist went in tends to becoming hypersensitive. At times it feels like it has been worked over with a scouring pad.

  2. Thanks. I had it off an gave it a good cleanup. :)

What really surprised me was that there was oil on the screw, and the screw hole seems to open into the inside of the gearbox. Is that normal? :huh2:

  5. Going by what I have read in the German forum on multiple occasions: all thing being equal, a gasket should not need additional sealant. :huh2:

Putting a smear of grease on the gasket before you mount it can make it come out easily the next time the cover is opened, and might make it re-usable. Probably more relevant for things like rocker cover gaskets and such that come off "regularly", but it can't hurt. :)

  6. Without seeing it "in the flesh", I think I'd be inclined to file out the two holes in the gasket right at the top, i.e. make them a bit oval downwards. From what I can see in that picture, the distortion seems to result from those two holes forcing the upper section of the gasket too far downwards.

Annoying when a part doesn't fit right... :(

Is it a sort of monster cable, they're good,

Yeah, monster cable. All I'll say to that is that I've been a professional sound engineer for nearly 40 years, and I've never seen that stuff in a professional system.

There's enough copper in there to do the job on the V11 for sure, but I'm a bit sceptical about how the insulation would bear up over time on a motorcycle. :huh2:

... is the grounding to the ECU coming out of the original harness...

Don't know for sure. I have to have a closer look at what is going on on the minus side of the battery. Have a look at the photos "16-NewWiring02" and "17-NewWiring03". There is a wire that looks a bit like that clear insulation stuff that hi-fi shops sells as "magic loudspeaker cable" going off the battery minus and across the back of the battery. On the other side a "common ground" has been created by screwing that wire on to the earth from the accessory socket and one (or two...) cables out of the original harness. It might be a connector(s) that used to be connected directly to the battery.

It works ok, but needs looking at definitely. :huh2:
