I've had two Guzzis ('79 SP and the RM)...wife had to come with the pickup for the SP once when I broke a clutch cable (could have probably made it home, but why bother)...never (knock wood) didn't make it home with RM. Once you get things sorted from the prior owner, you should be in good shape. I am approaching 24K miles now, so I know there are things that need to be looked at seriously this summer when it gets to hot to ride.
The MGNOC used to have a pretty good list of Guzzi owners ready to assist around the US...I let my membership run down, so not sure where that stands now. I also think Buzzard has a good point that one or more local dealers probably know where to find one of us if someone needed assist...that would be the case for me with the BMW/Ducati dealer one town over--I know they have my email. Have fun! k

My ignition sensor was also leaking recently...IBA, noted as I poked around this AM, that I failed to mention oil pressure switch as a possible culprit, but sounds like you have it located. k

This was a fairly common problem on early Guzzis because the input splines wore down which did not allow the clutch discs to move properly. Later on (prior to our spines being built), they changed the input spline design which pretty much cured it...but, were it I, I would look for a grease as you are suggesting. Problem here will be to find one that will stay put on the rotating spline without blowing off onto discs. I had a heck of a time getting my clutch bled last time...I'd do that again before tearing into it. k

IBA, 1) the hollow bolt that holds the "V" shaped stainless oil line(s) that feed the rockers may be loose or cracked---dead center top of block, aft of the timing cover; 2) there is a similar larger hollow bolt on the frame under the tank that allows the frame to act as a breather/catch tank, mine leaked there, but you describe a great deal more oil than I dealt with, hence back to 1; 3) if the leak were on the left side only, I'd suspect the magnetic ignition pickup as the point of oil exit. May be some other spots, but these immediately come to mind. Believe you can reach point 1 with a wrench from your kit and that may get you home. k

I have a Rosso Mandello and can say for sure that they didnt get the eagle badges at all. Not on the triple clamp or the pork chops.

Have the odyssey. It is probably going on 18-24 months old. Made mistake of not leaving it on charger while stored and it went flat. It has charged back up and seems to carry bike okay, but I now have the Guzzi flickering batt light, so not sure how long it will last. k

I are glad I are not smart enuff to unnerstan this stuff...but I can bring back meat, make fire with too stiks and burn it if y'all are workin late!

The previous owner kept the one off the triple clamp of my Rosso Mandello...he didn't want the bike, but apparently wanted a souvenir. There are none on the porkchops and no glue residue...of course, I've had the bike over 7 years and could not attest to it ever having emblems there in the first place. Any RMs out there have emblems on the porkchops? k

I also see a company on internet near me in Atlanta called Joel Levine Company that promises repair of Veglia and others speedos/tachs. Does anyone have any experience with him? If not, I have a science experiment for him (fixing my odometer) if I can get into the garage to pull it off.

I've done it with a flattened punch as well, but you must be very careful to not wreck the spacer. Next time I'll get a puller. Also note that there are two variations on the front axle bearings of the 2001 models...one has different size inner race diameters on the axle. You'll need to know which you have to purchase replacement. k

I put the months Centerfold in mine with the wiring diagram underneath then the maps,works for me.

Thanks, guys; I appreciate the tips. I'm going to give it a shot without the bolt on the rear, and probably put some discreet tape on the tank where the front straps go.
I put some foam rubber pads under the straps where they meet the tank on the foward edges...a little ugly, but no paint damage. A couple of my zipper pulls died and I replaced them with little key chain rings. I really like the bag, and I keep my 250 mile radius map under the plastic...get all kinds of commets about that -- "oh look, a map...how quaint!"

Mine was missing an engine mount bolt...the other was loose. I also backed off the steering damper a little. Keep smiling.

Wow, sounds like what I heard from a couple of dealers here over the years...very tough for someone whose livelihood depends a supply chain. k
