Did anyone ever cut a board too short in wood shop and get sent out by the instructor to find the board stretcher?
Classic.

Those sound better than my FBF can's I commend you sir
Thanks
Those things were loud! No packing in them whatsoever. They had an obnoxious "crack" sound. They were even louder after these vids were shot, when I replaced the stock crossover. I'm sure my neighbors hated me. Now I have a set of Mistrals, and I think my neighbors still hate me, but maybe a little less...

Ahh, what a sweet sound indeed. Here's a few of DirtyBird with its old chopped stock mufflers (turn the volume & bass up!):

Or start using firefox 2.
Or switch to a Mac or Linux

no one has chimed in on what I'm going to do, Its alright I don't know how it'll turn out either.
We're so excited to see how it turns out that we just can't say anything

I totally agree with your thoughts on the crossover. Don't know if the Stucci is as h.d. as the factory tank of a thing, but if it it not, save your money.
Ciao, Steve
The Stucci is slightly lighter than stock, but not much. While you're not saving much weight, the improvement in power is well worth it. Plus, it comes with a bung for an oxygen sensor...

Well...if FBF would send my fender elim kit, pipes, cross over and airbox lid elim kit I would have a blast! I sure hope FBF's products are better than their communication skills! I ordered the fender elim kit on the 3rd.... called this week.."oh, yea....those are backordered..hopefully before the end of the year" Ok, I understand backorders but shouldn't they have let me know that without having to call them 2 weeks later? They never even sent an order confirmation. E-mailed on Thursday to see if they had a updated ETA and they never got back to me. So far I am not impressed...maybe the products will win me over
My recent experience with them was horrible.
I'd strongly recommend you cancel the order for the crossover. Mine cracked. Greg Field's cracked, and a couple other people's have cracked, all due to improper welding. They sent me a new one, and told me they had inspected the welds before sending it (and shipped it one week after they said they would). I checked out the new one and the welds were just as bad as the first one. I sent it back and they refunded me. Bought a Stucci to replace it.
The crossover lacks a hanger which can cause unnecessary strain on the head pipes and may have caused cracking on them as well.

I'd mount the gun backwards to deter tailgating

God, alll this talk of avatars, so I had to get me my own.
This better work.
Let me introduce you to Kody, master of all he surveys, terror of all felines, semi-professional garden digger, terror of suburban Dublin, urine accurate to within 3 feet.
He howls a lot too.
Aww, why'd you have to do that???
Many years ago I had a sweet, loving, gentle Malamute named Kodiak. Dumb as a box of wet hair. As brave as, well, nothing. Biggest chickenshit dog I'd ever met (I say this with love.) I rescued him from a jackass who wanted to use him as a sled dog, but Kodi wasn't a "team player", so he wasn't treated well. The jackass had his voice box removed because he "barked too much" and beat the metric crap out of him because he wouldn't pull like the others. He was in bad shape when I got him, but I made sure he was loved, happy and well fed. Had to put him down six months later. His hips were really bad and he was in too much pain, and being in college I couldn't afford heroic surgery for him. To this day I regret not being able to save him, but at least he was happy when he went...
Ferguzzi, Kody looks happy and wonderful. Take good care of him
Sorry, I'm a bit misty-eyed now.
As for my avatar, nothing serious.

Wow thats a stretch
Yeah, sorry about that. I was having a geek moment.

Hey, Slug! I gotta agree with y'er assessment of y'er Web page, but isn't one o' those handsome fellows (er, people) one of the images I used a long ways back here to illustrate why I would NEVER rely on the services of an unknown dealer (no offense whatsoever meant to our many WELL KNOWN, and highly reputable establishments affilliated herewith!), under the theory that once you turn y'er back on the dealership, wot happens behind closed doors -- and by WHOM -- is pretty much a roll o' the dice?!?!?!?
-----Or is that YOU???
Enquiring minds just gotta know!
It's a good possibility I snagged one of these mugs from you. Unfortunately, none of these people are me. I'm far too ugly to have my face shown on the internets.
Slug! With your permission, may I send this to some of my friends?
Be my guest!

My "new" guzzi is running at 42 and 45psi F to R...seems high to me. I did not get an owners manual with it...what should they be?
Tire pressures from the manual:
Front wheel: 1 up: 2,3 BAR (~34psi.); 2 up: 2,4 BAR (~35psi.);
Rear wheel: 1 up: 2,5 BAR (~35psi.); 2 up: 2,6 BAR. (~37psi.);
HTML Version of V11 Manual Circa 2000 (Thanks Callison!)

Dis many fingers is 10,000!
Not lame at all!
Actually the 10000 in the sign is in binary, so it's really 16 bikes.
Now THAT was lame...

Great idea Mr and Ms Slug! I like it!
Thanks, we sure got some weird looks from the locals while searching for "just the right tumbleweed" (insert Dueling Banjos theme here)

oh yeah because CF is soo much better for sitting out in the sun
do they make some type of UV clear coat that could help things for CF?
Yeah they do. I'm using what is hopefully a UV stable clear gelcoat on the outer layer and surfboard resin for laminating the carbon cloth. Even with this protection the sun will break the resin/gelcoat down with time, hopefully more slowly.
My bike is always parked indoors (home/work). If I had to park my bike outside all the time, I probably wouldn't be doing this.
I don't think I'd ever own carbon wrapped mufflers though. IMHO that's just too much heat for resin to handle over time.

The tail section on my green/gray V11 was either never hardened correctly or the sun's rays here in florida ate through the paint (when I didn't have a garage I used to go through at least one cover per year due to the sun).
I think the goo they sprayed on the tail section to make it matte was crap. It peeled off like a bad sunburn in random spots. Mine wasn't even exposed to that much sun. I tried to take the stuff off carefully but couldn't find a (chemical) stripper that worked right. Went all the way through the paint. Oh well. I should have my tail section mold done in a month or so and I'll have a shiny new CF tail.

I reallly want one of those SXV's for a toy down the road, now those are fricken ssweeeeeeeettttttttt I'd say more fun than those over priced BMDubbyas I may be able to get one cheaper than a Ulysses even, I'm sure not as comfy as either mentioned tho. but man what a toy if I ever saw one.
The SXV seat is not comfy for sure. I think it's designed to re-split your crack if your cheeks have started to join together Price-wise they're a steal for what you get.
I think this bike is #2 on the 'gotta have it' list. #1 is a pair of BMW F650's for me and Mrs. Slug. I showed her the advrider.com site and she's really liking the idea of dirt rides, camping, scenery and all that. All we need is money.

This year we decided not to use our usual fake x-mas tree. Instead we picked up a tumbleweed on the way home from Thanksgiving at Noelle's (Mrs. Slug) parents. So here it is in all its glory:

Looking good!
How much of your bike was a Rosso Mandello?
What are it's origins?
Could you keep the front wheel down on the SVX?
Cheers
Jim
Thanks!
My bike started out as a green '02-'03 Sport Naked. My tank was scratched up pretty bad and Moto International had this Rosso Mandello tank for cheap (has an itty-bitty scratch on the left side). Once I finish making the tank pad mold and get the original tank repainted green I might sell this tank.
No, I couldn't keep the front wheel down. For a second I was thinking "why isn't this thing steering????" I don't have much experience on dirt-style bikes and it really scared me (partly 'cause it wasn't my bike) and I actually cut the ride short. Maybe I can try it again when it's dry...

Finally got a temporary title for Dirty Bird and put him (mostly) back together today. Took him for a test ride, the first time since I crashed him three months ago. I was worried that he would have some weird damage that I couldn't find without riding him, but all seems well mechanically. The new Mistral ovals and Stucci x-over sound sooooooooo good. Life is good. So here's what Dirty Bird looks like now:
What you can't see is the finished carbon fiber undertail I just made. The tail section is temporary, I'm still making a mold from my original so I can build one out of carbon fiber. I'm also working on building a mold for the tank pad on pre-2003 tanks so I can make those from carbon fiber. I also have a mold built for the seat cowl, just need to polish it & it'll be ready to go. Once I'm happy with how the parts are turning out, I'll start selling 'em. If you're interested, let me know.
If you wanna see what I'm working on, here's a few pics.
Also, I got to test ride an Aprilia SXV 4.5 today. Scary fun. It was wet out and I haven't ridden in three months so I took it easy, but WOW! If my employer would only pay me what I think I'm worth, I'd snatch a couple up for me and the Mrs...
