  1. si1100, I had an unrelated problem with a 2003 Rosso Corsa I bought late August - its been back several times and finally I wrote a letter to the dealer to state that if they didn't get it fixed I would pursue a claim to return the bike as unfit for purpose. I would need to take legal advice if I did pursue this route, but it seems to have conentrated thier efforts anyway and they took the bike back in and stripped it down properly - I just heard today the new parts are on order so hopefully the issue will get reolved this time, if not then I am resolved to try to return the bike and get my money back - I bought the bike to have fun and so far have had mostly hassle and little use - having said that I love the bike and really hope they fix it. I would guess if you can get several people together that have the same issue you should be able to get Guzzi's attention - the people on this forum are probably thier most loyal customers and I don't think they have such a broad base that they can afford to ignore us - I am on my 3rd Guzzi and most people stick with them but once you move to something else I would suspect they have lost a customer for a long time, if not for good. 2. Not sure if a poll would work well for this - but it would be great to get an overview of what everyone is running and thier experiences. Obvioulsy its a bit subjective and depends what you are looking for from a tyre, but I guess a poll could at least take the application into account. I've never felt confident with the standard tyres either and would consider changing them early if I had a good idea of what works better - I know there's no gaurantee but I would rather trust the views of real riders in this forum than the views in the trade press.
  3. Orson, Outstanding - fantastic pics and a great write-up. Makes you want to get the bike out and go....... Ken
  4. Stormsedge, I have been using an Optimate which actually ships with an adapter that you connect to your battery and then just plug in - I have been leaving it plugged in as a matter of course whenever I get back from a ride with the battery still hooked up without (so far !) and problems Ken
  5. Antonio - I thought it was an essential ingredient of any pizza !! Ken
  6. Those things all look way over-engineered, look at this baby ..... Looking to upgrade your camcorder ? .........
  7. OK - well I am definitely going to try this out when I get my bike back, even if it is fixed ! I just hope I dont mess it up and send it straight back to the repairers !! Doing 2 and 4 without 1 and 2 definitely sounds easier to get used to. Part of my problem with the gearchange was also when you change back down the gear lever would stick down and eventually ping back up - I would feel it on the botton of my boot, so I am pretty certain there was something wrong still. Thanks guys ! Ken

    Shortchanged by dealer

Hi Rockdoc, Congrats on the bike - very nice, and welcome from another rookie. The rattle when the clutch is engaged is normal ans you can find some good advice elsewhere on the forum about not sitting at the lights in gear with the clutch in. Enjoy ! Ken
  9. Belfastguzzi - thanks for the pic - this will help me make sure I find out exactly what they have changed. rktman1 - thanks also for the advice. If I still have a problem when I get the bike back I will definitely try this, although I can imagine it is going to be difficult to change the habit. I did wonder if it was my technique and tried to be really precise with the gearchange, etc but I certainly didnt try this yet ....

    MSG\01...When?

Is there a comparison anywhere of the main difference between the G&B Supertwin and the MG-01 - from what I can tell looking at the Guzzi website the MG-01 Corsa is based on the 4v engine with the 6 speed gearbox, are there other key differences between the 2 (also the price looks like 3K more for the GB in the UK) ? Will the road version be the same spec as the race version - or are these all unanswered questions ? I would just like to know which one I should be dreaming about owning ....... Ken
  12. Had the bike picked up today so I took the opportunity to call the service manager to find out exactly what they plan to do. Conversation went something like... MG: According to MG there is a potential problem with your bike from the frame number and we need to change out the selector shaft which is 1mm too long. Me: So its defintely the selector shaft, not the pawl ? MG: Probably, but we wont know for sure until we get it apart. Me: Hang on, I thought you told me last week you were going to order the parts in advance - does that mean you have the parts or not ? MG: Er no, we are still waiting for them. MG are going to send us all the parts that could be suspect. Me: So you dont really know whats wrong, your just planning to swap out bits until you crack the problem ? MG: Well we have a good idea from MG what the problem could be.... So despite what they told me beforehand they dont seem to really know and they dont have the part in either. Could be a long time before I see my Guzzi again.......... Ken
  13. Hi BFG, I will see if I can find out exact details of what they do, including part numbers. The service manager definitely told me on the phone that it was a shaft that is 1mm too long that was causing a problem with the selector under load. I had a run out Saturday and noticed that the gearchange is better when the bike is cold (makes sense), and once it warmed up I redlined it thru the gearbox from a standing start (just to test the 'under load' theory you know !) - and found that I couldn't select any gears cleanly, so although it seems to be worst getting into 3rd it is evident in other gears also. Can someone point me to a drawing of the selector with the part numbers so I can try to make sure I get the exact details ? Thanks, Ken
  14. Thanks Antonio - saved me from getting paranoid Calithrix - I will try to find out exactly what they do and the part numbers, etc. Its interesting they didnt seem to know about this potential problem until they spoke with someone from Guzzi - until then they told me they had done everything they could think of and were planning to drop the box and take a look. At least it sounds like they are onto something now - I hope so because I really want to get the bilke back and just have it working right !
  15. This thread is starting to feel a bit like talking to yourself , but here goes again..... I just had a call from the garage to say that they had a top technical guy from Guzzi in yesterday and they beat him up to find out what the heck is wrong with my gearbox. Apparently this guy tells them that 'there are a very few bikes here in the UK that have a shaft in the gearbox which is 1mm too long and which causes a problem with the selector when changing gear under load'. They have ordered a replacement kit and the bike goes back end of next week to have it swapped out - I should have it back within a few days so here's hoping that the end is in sight ......
  16. True - the Rosso Corsa is a little bit special though
  17. Brian, I have had similar difficuly getting the bike to shift from 2nd into 3rd when pulling away hard (its OK if you go slow - but whats the point in that !) - it doesnt drop out of gear (at least not yet !) like yours but occassionaly the gearchange will stick down and eventually pings back against the sole of my boot. It may be an entirely different problem - my bike has been back twice already and is waiting for its 3rd return visit to the dealers. The first time they cleaned the rollers and the 2nd time they adjusted the cam - after getting back the second time it is definitely more postivie shifting into every gear but it still locks under hard acceleration when you shift into 3rd. They plan to drop the gearbox next time and take a look at 2nd gear. Non of this might help but at least I can empathise ! Ken
  18. Ooooh No !!!! Just been for a spin on the bike and it is STILL playing up - this is starting to not be funny anymore !! The gearchange is defintely better - in fact it feels more positive changing in every gear than it did before, but if you gun it up throug the box it still wont change cleany into 3rd every time. I guess its back to the shop again - the only good news is I think the bike can probably can find its own way there now ......
  19. Just had a call to say the bike is coming back from the shop tomorrow (and the weather forecast says it going to be sunny !!). I asked them to let me know what they had done so I could post an update and they said they have adjusted the gear selector cam and test ridden the bike over 20 miles and all seems OK. Hopefully the problem is sorted now - I will post again once I have run it for a while just to confirm. Hope this helps if anyone else has similar problems....

  23. Thanks Callithrix - I really appreciate you taking the time to figure this. I called the shop today to book the bike in - not sure yet when I will get it looked at but I will pass on your info and post more when I get it back.
  24. Thanks Callithrix. I have probably only done a couple of hundred miles since I got the bike back so, although it was definitely better after they looked at it, I'm not sure exactly what it is they did that it could start playing up again so quickly (they obvioulsy didnt address the root cause of the problem). btw - the bike has done 2300 miles and they told me it would get better if I run it in for longer, but its hard to run it in when you cant change in and out of 3rd gear smoothly, and it definitely spoils any fun riding it !
  25. Been reading the forum for a while now and finally signed up last night - if I'm not out on the bike I'm reading about them now ! I picked up a 2003 Rosso Corsa just a couple of months ago and after a few weeks it developed a problem - changing from 2nd into 3rd became really difficult and I had to let out the clutch and back off on the revs before it would finally go in. It was a lot worse when pulling away hard. When I change down from 3rd into 2nd the gearchange would stay down and then suddenly spring back up against the bottom of my foot. I took it back to the dealer who told me that 'the rollers needed cleaning' and they repaired it under warranty. Anyway a few weeks later and its starting to do it again ! I have read about al the known problems with the return spring but my problem seems to be slightly different - the bike does go into gear (eventually) and nothing seems to have actually broken. I can take the bike back to the dealers and have it looked at agin, but wondered if anyone has any similar experience so hopefully they can nail the problem properly this time ?
