  1. . . .  and that is why the fuel cock wiring issues with V11's struck a cord.

Seems th '02 petcock is manual ( and stiff as Edge says). The 'electric cock' went away with Aprilia. The last relay block is blank in manual applications.

I had a tipover which dislodged a lot of swarf in the tank to gather up about the petcock intake screen causing the fuel to cut off before the light came on. Might want to remove the petcock and give the intake screen a good clean. :luigi:

  2. also make sure the switch on the kick stand is moving in and out.  apply some WD40.

The side stand switch will keep the bike from running in gear but not lock out the starter. No starter means #1) clutch switch or,#2) starter relay.

  3. I wonder if Guzzi has checked trademark rights to use that name in America. It has been a long time since "Norge" has sold refridgerator/freezers here. Many have never heard of them, but we medium-old guys might have trouble poudly telling our buddies we're riding a Norge. :(

I hate to wish difficulty on theireffort but it would be forunate for the name to be blocked here and force them to use a name that roughly translates: "handsome, powerful creature" But "Icebox?" Oh, no . . .

"Grantourrismo" would look nice in stylish script.

  4. Now remember guys, the ECU is a 5 volt 8-bit digital system. What does that mean?  Well, in a 5-bit system, that means you have 256 evenly spaced steps.  5 volts divided by 256 gives 19.5mV steps.  The ECU would recognize...

    0v

    19.5mV

    38mV

    57.6mv

    etc...

A change in a value less than 19.5mV means nothing to the TPS as it can not resolve it.

Also, the TPS output curve is composed of TWO different linear sections.  The people at Marelli were kind enough to send me the output diagram of the TPS showing signal output vs. physical rotation of the unit.  The slope of the TPS is a steep line int he lower regions so that small rotations give a more increasing output - that is so more of the ECU's evenly spaced steps can be concentrated in the low throttle opening range to increase part throttle response, cruise response, and overall driveability.  The curve after a certainpoint gets shallower, so the it takes a larger throttle opening to realize a change in TPS output.  This range would be where you are 'getting on the throttle' to really motor down the road.

This might effect some of your previous thinking.

Does this mean that when I moved my 'closed' setting from 165mV to 150 mV the ECU didn't notice?

  5. When you say your weight is 180# is that in street clothes or in your full riding kit?

I thought I was the perfect N. Italian 160# rider til I stepped ont he scale in Aerostich, Sidis, Arai , gloves and glasses: 175#.

  6. Strangely enough, no.  I'll have to take one next time we go out.

Actually, I am really happy with the camping chairs we got.  They were made by a fellow in Tennessee, they are very compact, comfortable(!) and made of good, strong oak.  Aerostich charges a *bit* more than what we paid for them:

This is what loaded up looks like for me (less chairs).  Somewhere near 1000 Islands in the prairies of Canada.

Ah, yes, the Kermit chair. They are very nicely made and classy. And, what, 100USD. The last camp chair I bought for Scouts was $5. Crappy and not classy but still 5 bucks.

  7. Well, OK , so "Google" is the fountain head.

Marelli started in 1919 with money from FIAT to supply magnetos and ignition parts for autos. It did invlove itself in radio and TV as well as all things automotive from ignition to lighting and suspension to braking.

It has partnered with many big names : FIAT, RCA, GE, Bosch, GTE, Exide, Weber, Veglia-Borelli, Nippondenso and Midas.

But , let the record show, George Lucas isn't mentioned anywhere in the extensive history. :bier:

  8. OK, I'm vague on the instrument change. The white faced Veglia ( I,ve replaced each of mine once) were 1999- ? - '02?

Then came the "IPI" or some - such? And the dubiuos bevel drives went away which was good until the cable set-up changed when?

Whew! Makes me dizzy. I'm going after more Laphroig while you guys straighten this out. :drink:

  9. Watching "LeMans", ( Steve McQueen, 1971) the Ferraris are festooned with Magnetti-Marelli stickers. My riding buddy asked if they were an old company. I guessed they made radios before the war. "Er, that was Ducati," says he.

So I come to the fountain head and ask those who know: what of Marelli?

  10. The crash on my Sport took about 3 months to sort. Without the help of forum members it would have been at least triple .
