  1. 2000 V11 in regular use and been fine. Turned the key to return from a ride out today and the instrument lights were faint. Noticed one dimmed more as I touched the brake. Started OK and got me home (possibly running more hesitantly but could be my paranoia). Still starts OK but instrument lights all but out now. New battery and battery tender in use.

Any thoughts? The TT is just around the corner and I’d hate to be bikeless.

    Many thanks.

    Brian.

  2. Why is it that we here in the UK would be expected to pay more than double that?

It's no wonder manufacturers call the UK 'Treasure Island' and clearly not just the V11 itself that's shafted...

    :-(

  3. EEEEEUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHMMMMMM?!?!

How is it that Metz seems to want to make some great mystery out o' this?? The last time I took a run thru the Metz Web site they danced all around the idea of dual compound on the Z6, whilst dropping rather large implications that the Z6 has the technology (by my repeat experience they wear like a dual compound), without saying it is or it ain't?!

    Enquiring minds . . . (well, you know) :huh2:

The marketing bloke who explained the tyre structure to me talked about a triple wire cord, or some such, wound at differing tension as it passes from the shoulder to the centre of the tyre and back to the other shoulder. He said the higher tension in the centre would be good for highway use whereas the lower tension would help the tyre present a larger contact patch on corners. That's as best I can remember and based on what I think he was trying to explain. It could all be wrong... ha ha. He did say it's not dual compound though.

I commented on the wide variety of bikes fitted with it and he said that's part of what they're trying to get across - that its a very versatile tyre.

  4. Funny some of you should suggest the Metzeler. There was a Metzeler press launch here on the Isle of Man today for, I think it was, the Z6. Lots of journalists and a few celeb riders (not that I recognised anybody - just saw them being interviewed) and lots of very different bikes on the same tyre.

One of the marketing people explained the structure of the tyre and how it's a response to the dual compound offers from other manufacturers without actually being dual compound itself.

Tried to get a few free samples but to no avail... ;-)

  5. Go for the Z6's. I've had 2 sets on my 2001 V11 and got aprox 10,000km out of each set. And thats on South Island roads.

Currently have a pair of Perilli Diablo's fitted which I like better but don't think they will do the same km's.

    Cheers Zappa

Thanks Zappa. Nice to hear from somene back down there. There can't be too many V11s in the South Island. Shifting back to Christchurch in October. Looking forward to some of those rides out to Hanmer etc.

    Cheers everybody.

  6. Opened a can of worms there... Thanks for all the advice just the same.

I don't ride in the wet much if at all. I want long life but also need to feel confident in the bends (not that I'm a knee-down rider either - because I'm not).

The bike's coming back to NZ with me in a few months. Most of the riding will be on country roads (there aren't any highways really in the South Island). Don't know if that also affects tyre choices.

    Thanks again everybody.

  7. My mate's Ducati had a worn clutch basket and used to rattle a lot at idle. My 2000 V11 sounds much like his bike did. Besides the suggestions already made, is there anything else that can be done to reduce the noise?

  8. Didn't have any joy with the search facility so sorry if this is as common as an oil thread.

My bike's fitted with Bridgestone BT010r tyres and I think it's time for a change. I understand there are now dual compound tyres out there and wondered if anybody'd tried them. If not, is there a good compromise between grip and longevity anybody's aware of?

    Many thanks.

  9. I've had plenty of H-Ds and no complaints whatsoever. However, this one isn't getting rave reviews. I think when stacked up against European bikes it's just left wanting: too heavy, poor brakes, poor suspension, some criticism of build quality. Shame because it's a good looking bike.

Looking for another Evo Springer when I shift back to NZ next year. Should be a nice contrast to my V11.

  10. Arrived at my favourite bacon sarnie shop and went to turn off my ignition only to find it'd vibrated loose, both bolts disappearing, and had fallen down between the trees...

Easy fix but my bacon sarnie had to wait as I'd have felt a bit silly leaving it running.... :-(

  11. Thanks for the tip. You just saved me a great deal of time.

Can I ask why the handbook says we shouldn't use a grease with MOS2 (?) additives? I found it hard to find a CV grease that didn't have it and I'm not sure the one I've on my bench is really any good.

Oh, how do you avoid bursting grease through seals? I'm guessing there's a danger of that???

    Thanks.

  12. Shame this had to degenerate. I only wanted advice on checking my oil level.

I am interested in Pete's plate though (I'm interested in anything that'll help my bike last longer). Shipping the bike back to NZ later in the year so I'll chase you up then Pete if I may (not got much more than the odd Chinese spanner to hand at the moment).

    Take it easy.

  13. I've learned on this forum that the relays in my 2000 V11 are overtaxed (aren't we all...).

The previous owner has numbered the relays in my bike from one to five suggesting 'issues' and passed me a new one amongst the bike's bits and bobs. Could someone tell me what the relays do and should owners keep a few spares on hand when out and about? Oh, and are they interchangeable?

    Thanks.

  14. Replaced the oil pressure sensor only to return from a lap of the TT circuit and find oil all over the left side of the bike. Arse.

I simply need to know if I check the level upright or on the sidestand. It's just not mentioned in the b***dy factory manual. And, I understand it's to be filled a little over the max, is that right?

Still, was a lovely ride at 7am with a nice sunrise and the whole Island to myself.

Thanks for your help. Search facility just wasn't getting me a simple answer to a simple question.

  15. I have a bulb out too, could you keep us posted on how it goes, and maybe post a tip or two about removal of the lens cover without messing things up?

Well, it was easy enough once I had the back of the clocks off but the oil pressure bulb wasn't faulty after all. Will have to look elsewhere...

OregonAl. You'll see once you're in there that it's straightforward. Back off. Bulb holders out. Swap bulb and back in.

    Thanks again.
