  1. I am on to it. Great idea. Gave the clutch some, ahem, stress testing this afernoon and no slip could be had. Feeling a bit more optimistic. The people that live in my road hate me.
  2. Thought that would be the case. Not feeling very lucky at the moment ! Thanks for the advice.
  3. Hoping you people out there can provide some comfort or some direction; I have a small but persistent oil leak from the rear of the engine. It appears to come from the seam where the gearbox attaches just by the gasket for the sump flange (I did previously think it was the sump pan gasket but having cleaned it up and used the talc powder test find I was wrong). I am praying it is the gasket for the sump flange that is spraying but became paranoid today when I noticed the oil drips are quite clean and the gearbox oil is lower in in the sight window than I remember. I thought that there is no way the gearbox oil can migrate to this seam ?? The bike is running fine and the clutch is as perfect as it can be. I haver run it in this state for over a hundred miles with no adverse affects. Please tell me not worry whilst the gaskets wind my way to to me in the post and I polish my spanners. Thanks.
  4. I know it is not a chopper but just chanced across this (apologies if it has been on here before)> i think it is a thing of beauty but would fold in half at the first corner ?
  5. Hells bells. Considering reversing back was not an option this guy must be barking mad. I would have lost it and banged open the throttle half way across.
  6. Replaced my lower sump gasket towards the end of last year as it was weeping oil. It started weeping again recently so replaced it again thinking I had screwed the repair. It is now worse; went out for a blast today and went a tad cold when I returned and found splats of oil all over the left side of the rear tyre. Getting a bit Pi55ed off now as is the wife with the spots of oil all over the drive. I am 99% sure that the oil is not migrating from anywhere else. Has anyone any tips as to best source of gaskets / sealants or techniques for getting this right (before I do something stupid like tightening the bolts until they snap)
  7. There is a busted one being broken here . . . My link Sorry about the link, look under the spares section http://www.rebootguzzispares.com/index.html?mainframe.htm&2
  8. There is a busted one being broken here . . . My link
  9. Nice ! I think a few glass panels wouldn't go amiss so as you can see that engine. Plus, where is the side-stand or is it in hover mode ?
  10. 'your' bike must have been the daddy to this: . . . and here's the grandaddy and the cousin
  11. Obviously inspired by the attached (nothing to do with me before you form a lynch mob !)
  12. Thanks, that is a really generous offer. I will let you know how I get on with the hire shops. I am going to sit down and plan a route - perhaps you would be kind enough to cast your eye over it when I am done ? I want to go to Vegas just to say I have been there and then maybe head North. I want to see as much as I can. I have been to the States several times before (I work for an American Company) but never California. Very envious of your planned trip to Belaggio. I aim to take my Guzzi back to it's place of birth one day. Maybe in 2013. Look forward to the photos.
  13. Looks great. Had first long ride of the year last weekend and it was fantastic . . . apart from the cross-winds which made it a little 'interesting' when the needle was buried in the higher end of the speedo. Blood pressure now back to normal. I am off to California in the summer for a few weeks and would like to do some biking over there. What would you recommend - shades and a Harley or something quicker and find some twisty bits ? I arrive at LA airport end of July and that is about all the plans I have so far. Any good hire shops I should aim for ? Many Thanks
  14. Yeah I am with you. Feeling a bit left out here. Lets have a regsiter for the mothership ! They are as rare as hens teeth in this neck of the woods
  15. Another tip from personal experience is to stay down when you come to a stop (unless you end up in the fast lane of course) until you are sure that everything required for standing is in working order. I had a major off and the shock and adrenalin had me jumping up on two broken legs and a broken ankle - this caused much more internal damage than would have otherwise been the case. Still makes me feel sick and that was more than 25 years ago ! I used to love that Yam LC350 powervalve ! It didn't like me very much.
  16. If you are going to let that fairing go please let us know. I am in the market for one. Thanks.
  17. A Guzzi owner has a stable of racing snails and sets about making his prize snail ready for the forthcoming GP. He decides that a 'naked' snail would derive benefits in power to weight ratio over and above the aerodynamic gain afforded by the shell . . . so he removes it. He is upset that the result is a bit sluggish. I thank you
  18. Thanks for your input guys. I am particularly taken with the idea of fabricating one myself (although not so sure about using wood !). I have also noticed that the Iron Man reactor / heart from my son's dressing up outfit is a good match for size, it flashes blue, and makes some cool noises. Now if I add some diodes and get it to spin with the alternator then I will have a product worthy of my status as a resident of Essex. I will let you know. If I don't get out of this house soon I am going to lose it completely !
  19. I have been scratching around the garage for things to do whilst the snow sits heavily outside and have decided that my alternator cover is looking a tad shabby. Does anyone have experience on best way to clean this up and provide a more durable finish ? I was thinking of going chrome ? or, if I am suddenly overcome with laziness, is there a good source of chrome replacement covers out there ?(I cannot find for the V11). Thanks.
  20. I had all the springs replaced (after pawl spring broke) and now it clicks into gear like a swiss clock. In fact I am never quite sure it has engaged it is so sweet (but it does every time). I am currently in that happy but relatively rare state of my bike running superbly . . . now if all this snow would just sod off !
  21. quote from wikipedia: Whilst on the subject of race heroes. Watch / listen to this biker porn . . .
  22. For a while there, some motorcycle manufacturers cast the gear lever positions into the side of transmission housing. Yep, just look down to see what to do next. Crunch... This stuff just drives me mad. How could anyone in their right mind think this sort of cr*p is necessary ? I didn't see any stickers on Arnie's Harley in Terminator ! That's just irresponsible. Think I need to put the beer down. Hic.
