  1. I've been told that the correct Ram clutch can be sourced, but again it involves a wait of around 5 weeks.  It's a bit frustrating, especially given the fact that I've only ridden around 1000 miles on the bike.

Whether you go for the Ram unit or the twin plate option, it really shouldn't be this difficult or expensive to source a clutch on what is a relatively recent bike (2002-2003). Clutches are consumables.  Guzzi should be making a like for like replacement for the single clutch.

I've had less trouble getting parts for my 1973 Ducati single than for this. I'll keep you updated with any progress.

  2. An artwork might be a more fitting purpose.  It isn't very good as a fly wheel.

I may well end up with a twin plate.  I was told about the Ram unit-it seemed the closest match to the original and the cost was probably less than sourcing the parts for a twin plate.

I like your rabbit phrase.  I don't want to do that...

    :)

  3. Well, that was a false dawn. It would appear that I've been sent the wrong clutch. The clutch centre has a finer spline-maybe from a 5 speed? Also, the diameter of the cup for the pushrod is too narrow to accomodate the pushrod. Not sure which model it is for.

I did clean up the old clutch and the alloy flywheel does appear to have a fine crack or maybe two starting to appear, which may be a worry for Tenni and Scura owners.

The bike has only done a verifiable 15 000 miles.

  4. Got the new Ram clutch in the post.d51fc48af7923c69a44bf6341a47501a.jpg

New one is heavier than the original. 4.8 kg compared to 4.17kg. Alloy flywheel looks smaller, but the starter ring and the pressure plate seem more substantial. Hopefully get the engine back in over the next few days.

  5. I've ordered the RAM unit myself. I'll hopefully receive it shortly. From what I was told, the company that make them rely on Moto Guzzi to manufacture some of the parts. Not sure which parts, but it would explain the limited availability. I got myself a 2008 BMW F800S locally so that I'd still have a bike on the road while waiting to do the clutch, so at least I can enjoy the improving weather.

  6. I'm awaiting delivery of a replacement, but I did think of this. You don't hear about it much with regard to motorcycle clutches.

It's normal to replace the pressure plate and spring, but these must still be serviceable after so few miles. The alloy flywheel looks unmarked, though I haven't had it tested in any way.

  7. I replaced the breather recently on my Le Mans Tenni.  I did have to remove/loosen some wiring and electrics to get the hose connected at the front as space is pretty tight.  It's probably quicker and easier to take things off and refit rather than struggle. I struggled first, then removed stuff.

  8. Just an update.  Valpolini didn't have the single plate clutch.  I think Ram still make them, but in small numbers and there's a lead time.

I removed the engine and the original single plate clutch tonight,  There wasn't any oil leak, but the friction plate was very worn.  Less than 15 000 miles isn't much life from a clutch.  I'm going to call about to see if I can locate a Ram cluch.  If I get no joy, I'll get a second hand twin plate clutch.

  9. Hi.  I thought I had Tenni No. 17, but maybe not.  Check out Ebay UK or Moto Strada UK website (couldn't post link for some reason).

My VIN checks out on the Piaggio website as Le Mans Tenni.  It hasn't got the plate on the upper yoke and I don't have a certificate.  Can you tell the "number" from the engine or frame number or is there no relation between the two?

  10. Blimey...£1500 is steep.  Looks like I'll have no choice but to mix and match.  I saw your thread.  I'll have another look.  Which tools did you need to complete the job? I might pick your brains once I get stuck in. I'll give Gutsibits a call.

I've spent more time 'spannering' than riding the bike so far...

    Cheers

  11. I have old MOTs which seem to verify mileage.  I adjusted the lever/play, but it made no difference.  It disengages fine, which seems to suggest the operating mechanism is working OK.  I 've just lost drive progressively over a few days.  There aren't any unpleasant or unusual noises (beyond the normal clutch rattle).

Having looked at the other threads, the plan is to remove the engine.

If I can get a RAM unit, I think that's the way I'll go.  Did you need a tool to lock/compress the springs to remove the old clutch?  The RAM one seems to come ready assembled, which means I could manage without a tool to centre the clutch (?).

I had a look at the manual and there's not a lot of detail.  I'll have a good look at the old threads and I should be able to muddle through.

    Cheers

  12. Hi, I have a 2002 Le Mans Tenni and the clutch is slipping and getting worse by the day.  The bike has only got 13 800 miles on the clock. Sadly, only 800 of those were done by me.

There's no sign of oil at the gearbox/engine union.  I tried the lever adjuster, but that didn't have any effect.

I've had a quick trawl of the clutch replacement threads.  I've changed a BMW clutch before, but I'm not too sure I'm up to doing this one.

Can anyone give any insight on the availability of parts and the options for replacement.  I haven't taken it apart yet, but I'm thinking it would be a case of replacing clutch friction plate and pressure plate. Am I correct in thinking like for like parts for the single plate clutch aren't available?

Had a look and Gutsibits have a complete replacement RAM clutch, though I haven't checked on availability yet.  Any wisdom appreciated.

  13. 2002 Le mans Tenni and it has a plastic shell and a plastic reflector.  I saw some replacement headlights from China on Ebay  (item no. 121110416854) for a reasonable price. They are listed as Guzzi V11, but they seem to be suitable for a range of BMW models too. They look identical apart from the reflector having no recess for a pilot bulb.

I was thinking of a new reflector, a Cibie maybe, as the headlight isn't very good.  Was thinking the 7" would fit, but I'd welcome any guidance from someone who has improved their headlamp.
