  1. I know it is an old thread but I am trying to make my V11 more reliable a little by little. Last time I rode the bike, was a round trip of about 100 miles everything was O.K at least I thought that but the next day I found my battery depleted with a reading of 0.5 V. I started looking in the archives and after read a few threads I checked out all the ground points then cleaned and put some vaseline on them (not added a new ground to the regulator yet), replaced a melted 30 amp fuse and check the battery light bulb (grounding the wire that goes to the regulator and the bulb is in good working order) but the battery light does not come up when the key is ON. I verify everything one more time (battery readings are 12.65V OFF, 13.16 idle, 13.84 4000 rpm, 14.18 idle lights ON, 14.45 4000 rpm Lights ON and no parasite voltage drops measure at the fusses) and went to ride again, this time was a short ride of about 35 miles including some traffic, highways and twisted roads when I shut the bike OFF the battery reads 12.45V and the 30 amp fuse was intact although the battery light still does not coming up when the key is ON. So I guess the regulator/rectifier is O.K, any suggestion on what to look for My 2001 V11 Sport A.K.A Cicciolina by now is puring like a little cat and I am planning to enjoy her for long, I now for sure she will demand of me and I still have things to attend but I am very pleased of acquired her Thanks in advance.
  2. I found that a bad spark plug was causing all the problems, re do the procedure after a fresh spark plug installation and with some details still to be manage the Cicciolina is running again. Tomorrow a 150 miles roundtrip to the beach I will let you know everything ends. Thanks for your patient and all the help Roberto

Hello guys I have been trying to tune up my 2001 V11 Sport "Cicciolina" with no to much success, after follow the forum's procedure I end up with almost (hose with oil method) balance throttle bodies but at my first attempt the rigth cylinder got very hot but I could touch with bare hands the exhaust of the left one. I decided to back on my steps and re did all the procedure (TPS set 150mV, hook up the throttles rod, set TPS at 521 mV, white nob to balance over 3000 RPM) but this time the left cylinder comes very hot and the right one remains just warm. What I am doing wrong and how can I fix it TIA

Hello folks A few moths ago I started looking info about the V11s, because I was offered a trade of one of my bicycles for a 2001 V11 Sport, since I did not know anything about Guzzis but I wanted and I wanted bad since I saw an 850 Lemans MKI back in the 80's when I was young and impressionable. I receive a few not to encouraging feedbacks about their reliability form ADVrider forum where definitely are prone to use BMWs until I found this wonderful forum, plenty of information that gave me enough strength to decided on trading one of my bicycles for a 2001 V11 Sport, I guess it was a fare trade. As you can guess the motorcycle in question was not in running conditions, the previous owner told me the the bike was in the need of some TCL and a little bit of cash, after I bring her home I posted some desperated treads looking for the information I need to get over of the problems the bike had at the time, in the meanwhile I was waiting for the technician who supposedly had the expertice to solve all my problems but after wait him for three long months he came home just to said " the scanner showed up a TPS error " because the TPS on my bike AKA Cicciolina (named after a porn start involved in Italian politics back in the 80's) is the PF4 used in Harley's. He went away and after a fat bill the bike still in not running conditions, is not my fault he said I did my job but the TPS is the wrong one and the bike will not run with it. A week later full of the patient of a man who has nothing to loose, a bunch of schematics and drawings provided by kiwiroy a fellow V11LeMans collaborator and a six-pack of cold beer I decided to try to do something with until that day a 400 pound paper weigh and I must said that using the kiwiroy and this forum information Cicciolina was running and pulling hard after 5 hours of trial and error. In the process I also found some problems like the permanent magnets on the starter getting loose (I already regaled them in place), I lost my rear pump brake, a bad ECU connection causing no fuel pump priming, relay's malfunction and a wrong rear shock. Cicciolina is in running conditions now I got an used ECU and TPS (Guzzi originals out of a parting bike) wich help me to put her on the road again although I did not attachk the rear shock yet but she is running now. I fixed the minors issues just to complete my first ride, a small trip to the mountains near home of about 100 miles with no problems more than the need of taking off the seat and manipulate the wiring loom to prime the fuel pump and playing with the relays in order to start the bike every time we arrived to a full stop at the end of the day I was able to did the ritual in no time and my riding buddies enjoy see me touching my italian girl. I have not enough words to say thank to kiwiroy for all the help and information he gave me, with out it the Cicciolina should be sitting and collecting dust in my garage with some other forgotten projects, also I must thank all the replies received to my questions in the forum, I should mention fotoguzzi as well for be kind enough to gave me a TPS for free just to help a fellow rider in disgrace. In this process I have been learning a lot of things, in the list of things I already did to mu bike I could mention the starter rebuild, a full tune up, rear end dissasembly, bearings check out, bevel box & crown and pinion verification, wiring loom and circuits test, starting switch cleaning and reassembly among others and all of them thanks to you all and the forum archives. I can assure that I am not longer affraid of my bike that still has issues to address but with a better approach and the certainty this forum and the fellow members are here to support me if I need, my last words are. If you have the possibilities to get your hands over a V11, Go for it and enjoy the ride. Thank you guys I first did a quick repair I found in Wildguzzi.com forum I guess, I took of the petcock and replaced with a proper size screw (enough to get home) I then work on the epoxy and clean the contacts, weld a new wires and redo the epoxy a couples of tie wraps and "voala" like new, I will change the o ring to finish the job. The mechanic does not show up yet so I still have a 400 pounds paper weitgh or a non ride V11 Sport as you wish. I decided to wait for the mechanic but due the fact the guy has no word I going to try the alternative way. My first question is about I can use a Ducati Monster 900 Magneti Marelli IAW 15M ECU in my bike just to discard a few things Have a good day and enjoy your rides
  7. Hello guys and happy holidays for you all In the saga of my recent acquired V11 Sport I realized that the wires of the electrical petcock broke just in the base. Since I am not in the states and we are in holidays season, my question is if there is a way to fix at least temporaly this problem Thank in advance

Guys I feel so sad since my bike is sitting in the garage while the technician is taking care of the ECU, we found some cold welds (we called in spanish a bad weld due overheating caused by a bad contact I guess). I have not time right now to spend in the bike, but soon the Xmas holidays will give me some to fix the problems I hope. I will let you know.
  9. Ok guys I will share with you today's finds. I verified some circuits, relays, fuses and connections following your suggestions and I would like to say thanks you all. In my no experience with motorcycle electricity I manage my self to find the circuits I tested in good working order. the problem althougth persist, when I use the ignition switch nothing happens, but I found that just small amount of movement of the ECU connector bring the fuel pump priming ritual arise, I did the same test many times with the same result just pulling, pushing or twisting of the connector brings the pumps alive. I did some research in the archives and found this thread http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17927&hl=%2Bintermittent+%2Bfuel+%2Bpump where TomM said I had the exactly same problem and I would like to know if there are some specific ways to test the ECU or connector in order to isolate the problem In case the problem comes from a faulty ECU, are they fixable or if not could you suggest a place to find a new/used one maybe some fellow member has a spare one for sale TIA Roberto

After I follow the kiwiroy instructions (thanks Roy by the way) I tested the ECU connectors measuring resistance and look what I found TPS pin # 1 & #22 2.24 ohms Pin #11 & #22 920 ohm ->3.35 ohms Pin 31 7 #11 3.15->1.64 Kohms Air temp sensor #18 #22 3.43 Kohms 25 degree Celcius Oil Temp sensor #4 #22 3.31Kohms 25 degree Celsius Tachometer #3 -> chassis 6.5 Kohms Injectors 87 relay 5 -> #6 17.5 ohms #13 17.5 ohms Coils 87 relay 5 -> #14 0.6 ohms #20 0.6 ohms Timing Sensor #7->#12 696 ohms All the values look good enough except the tachometer What do you think TIA
  12. Thanks guys This is where we are at this moment, I start to disassemble for an easy access to the measuring points, I had a lot of fun undresing this italian chic . I decided to try to fired her up before working and found that when I turn the ignition nothing happens until I pull just a little bit the connector of the main wiring loom to the ECU, I did several times just a small amount of force and the fuel pump came alive, so there is a culprit in the connector it self or maybe a contact in the ECU and talking about the ECU somebody was looking around before I guess they open it look at the pics. I will be getting some measures tonight
  13. I will stat tonigth checking the ECU following kiwiroy directions, then the kill switch and relays and fuses box. Keep in touch and thanks in advance. Nobody said anything about buying a secons hand wire loom, I know is a second hand but the new one is around $500 and the one is already in the bike was cut and weld, any thougths about?
  14. Wow guys thanks for your fast replays to my problems, I just had a couple of ours with her so not too much time to do anything really. The computer cable and software sounds terrific, could you point me to where I can find the information about them (I will verify the archives of course) but first hand info is unbeatable. I had a spare TPS on hand thanks to fotoguzzi if there is a need, I will replace all the relays I guess I read some fellow forum member sale the replacements. Will look for filters and cables also, I found on the web a second hand main wire harness for sale, what do you think about to get it. I have to work back too you soon

Hello guys I am officially a proud owner of a very well preserve 2001 V11Sport I already post a thread asking for some advice to made the decision but now she's at home sitting in the garage. 30 years back I saw my first Guzzi, a Le Mans MK1 and I felt in love with those italian chics. During all this years and althougth the lack of Guzzis here in Venezuela I was near to complete 3 acquisitions, 2 Le Mans and one El Dorado with out succes until today. This Guzzi tale could be a little bit singular since I did not really bought the bike. A causal conversation with a new costumer (I am a bicycle shop manager) lead us to motor bikes that ends up trading the V11 Sport by one of my bicycles. Of course there is a catch here, the bike is not running at least not yet. The PO is a profesional motorcycle builder who lost the interest in this particular one and set her aside due some electrical problems (did somebody said Italian girls are temperamental). So I talked with a guy who is reconized as a well trained mechanical and he assure me he could fix the electrical gremlins but I since I like wrenching around I would like to try to fix her by my own, I guess if i can not fix her at least we will end knowing each other. What I found after ligth wash to see was lying under the dust was that the PO made a new ECU connector but this did not solve the problem, if you turn the key to the start position the fuel pump does not come alive, but after play a bit with the ECU conector I can hear the pump relay click (all the relays are the original Siemens) then the pump start to send and the engine try to fire up, fresh gas in the tank helps and after a few more attemptms she fires up screaming as crazy she is. I let her idle for a while during a while to find an oil leak over the mufflers cross over , I gave her some time and when she was hot I said to me well this is the moment of true and hit the road with no luck, she start to cough and fail with ocasional scary revs up just to die on me about 100 yards later, she start again and I made my trip back home with the same beheivior but after some clutch abuse we did the last few uphill yards. Once in the garage I did the ECU connection thing, the relay clicked and the fuel pump start to pump and she fire up, this time she was idling for long with some throttle twist to ear her screaming and she start coughing and spitting again, was late at night, wife was telling me that I need some food so I decided to let her alone and we agreed to see us again in the morning, we got a date . Guys those are the first impressions I would like to share with you and I hope this could be the begining of a flow of help and wisdom that I promise to return when I be cappable of. Thanks in advance for any input that can lead me to the solutions of my problems

I will aware of any offer about the original shock that came off a fellow member in working conditions to be negotiate. Anyone already? The bike is not in my garage yet but as soon she's arrives I will post some pics and let you know what I find
  17. Thanks you fotoguzzi I will look for the relays as soon as I bring the bike home, the multimeter is already on hand so I think in short time I will back with a lot of questions. I have second thoughts about those pod filters thanks God the bike comes with the original airbox and a fairin also here is a pic of her full dressed

When I started to write the thread I already had conversations with some fellow bikers because I wanted to hear what I want, that meant something like " go for it", "do not miss the opportunity", "life is one, live it' and they did it as I supposed even my wife thinks is a nice idea to get the bike but my major corncern was (note that I wrote was) the technical difficulties, but when just one post in this forum, you guys fill me up with the confidence I was looking for. I called the owner today and did the final arregaments so we could get started on the process of buy/sell the bike, that here in Venezuela is not an easy task. I guess that MY NEW TO ME MOTO GUZZY 2001 V11 SPORT (the capitals means I am so exited with this project) could be home by next weekend. I will post more pics of all the culprits that will appear once I started to work on her in my garage. For your information the original Sachsboge shock lost the oils through the seals, I was taking it apart just to find out that the inner shaft guide/stopper is stuck in the shock body so I can not push it down to free the cir clip that keeps it in place, in order to pull the shaft/valve together so I can totally disassembled and look for the spare parts. I could also be willing to negotiate a good spare that maybe one of you have laying around or have it in the spare parts bing. I almost forgot to let you know that I am not really buying the motorcycle in fact I am trading it by one of my mountain bikes Have a good night

Thanks guys for the replys The symptoms hummmm, as I told you guys I only saw the bike running once but at first after turn the key nothing happened then the owner move the connection to the computer I guess and the gas pump came a live and when she was running the did not idle well and after actuate the accelerator takes a little to rev up. Can I change the technician, no I do not know how to test the actual TPS I am in the process of getting the bike (long history) so the bike is not with me yet Could you tell me how to test the TPS Could you tell me where to find a new one just in case Could somebody tell me where to find the data I should check on the TPS Thanks in advance

Hello Guys Let's start from the fact that I am a complete newbie in the big machines world perhaps I have been riding motorcycles about 20 years now mainly for transportation porpouses with low cc engines. A little background, I am from Caracas Venezuela where is hard to find parts, info and qualyfied technicians although I decided to buy a 2001 V11Sport in not running conditions. I lost my mind, maybe, but back in the 80's I got a close encounter of the third kind with a Guzzi Lemans MK1, I felt in love with that machine at this precise moment and since then I was in love. I was near to buy one a couple of times with not success and I must admit I had second thoughts about me having a Guzzi in Venezuela that lead me to quit and I am regret, and as somebody said to me "... regrets are cuorious things, since the worst are the ones that comes for things you did not do it..." So I decided to take advantage of this oportunity of redemption, she is a 2001 V11 Sport Lime Gree/Red presumyble the only one in my country with about 20k miles on the odometer, more previous owners that I what to admit and an electric problem. After having some conversations with people who knows the guys or the motorcycle all of them agree with the fact that the bike has an electric problem associated with the wiring loom and or the TPS and a shot rear shock, we did start the bike after a few month of inactivity (no battery and old gas in the tank, you got the idea ) she finally roar up load and clear, no rare sounds coming out of the engine, althogth I could not perform a test ride due to the failure the bike seems prety solid to me. What I want is a no a big down payment to enter in the game and a good example of a Guzzi to work on, the plan is to ride the bike occasionally with some fellow bikers in short rides not far from home . Finally I spoke with a well know technician who told me to find a correct TPS (the actual comes from a Harley Davidson the PO said that is the same part number of Guzzi's) because he will not perform any test or job without it, the problem is I only find one in Harpes and it is over $300 so I am looking for options before buy at the new one. If some of you guys have a TPS in good working conditions that would like to sale and ship to Miami Florida I will be glad to give it a try.
