European Switchgear

The appropiate switch block but it might be worth shopping around as geniune aprilia bits can be pricey ideally the oem part as these tend to just plug in. You may also need to do some slight rewiring of the relays. However there was a rumour that the manufacturer's were pressing for standerised requirments for all countries rather than making slightly different bikes for each country. ie if a couple of countries require headlights on every bike out of the factory is built this way. Then you might be pushing it to find an appropiate switch block.

Athough usally the Guzzi's (from at least the early 90's) when you crank the motor it is wired with the relays to drop the headlight out anyway.

It's been several years, so I could be remembering this wrong-but-

My left side switchgear went bad shortly after I bought the bike in '01. The dealer had a Euro Left side in stock and would have replaced it right then and there, but the connectors are different and I didn't want to replace the molex (or whatever it is) connector. So, I ended up waiting on parts an interminable two weeks or so, in February, in Iowa, and then replaced it. Worked out fine. :mg:

Bottom line- check the connectors or be prepared to do some wiring.

I just ordered the euro part# from the dealer fully expecting to

receive the US version. They sent the euro ....unplug the stock

US one and plug in the euro....bingo!!!!

Lights off----running lights-----or headlight..

But now your not DOT :moon: compliant

As Murray said, the relay system drops the headlamp during cranking. The advantage to the Euro switchgear is to run along with only the 'city lamp', a 4watt bulb in the headlamp shell. This, ostensibly, saves charging power when doodling around Rome and should be OK where 'drivers' are aware of motorcycle traffic. :o

Here in the States, where folks tend to pull out in front of Fire Trucks and Trains, I think I'll run my PIAA on hi-beam with a thumb on the Fiamms. :helmet:

I would really like to have switchgear for the V11 that would allow the engine to be started WITHOUT having to run the darn headlight. Anybody done this? What part(s) are required?

May I ask why you would want to run the engine with the headlight off ??

I want to start the engine with the headlight off because it should be MY CHOICE to be able to start the bike without first turning on the headlight. Logically that is the way things should work. Why should the government enforce an illogical sequence of events to occur when starting MY MOTORCYCLE?

Greg, I’ll call next week to get that part number. Thanks for everyone’s responses.
