I want this soooo bad

Recommended Posts

These brakes bite exessively strong, so that they are dangerous for street use, they can block easily in almost any speed after a point (that is much earlier than on our Brembo Guzzis).

Hi Alex

I have the same brakes on my S4Rs and I love them. They are really powerful but also progressive and have good feel. I have heard of someone taking an S4Rs out for a test ride and dropping it after locking the brakes, but any experienced rider would be fine- you just need to be gentle and get used to them before you start braking hard. Increasing the front preload and compression helps keep it stable when you braking hard.

I am riding my Duke to work every day in all weathers in fast moving traffic, and am glad of the brakes.

With regards to buying Ducatis in general, just like anything else try before you buy- they are not for everyone but I get one hell of a rush from mine.

Nope I think ,they're not the same (except if you have installed these as extra) as in 999 (S & R ) versions and perhaps the 999as well.

same as i.e. the Öhlins of the 999S are different from the 999R.

Only the S4R testastretta has radial brembos , though with different brake pump as it seems to me than the 999 series,

It is the Testastretta I have- the brakes are fitted as standard and are the same as the 999S, and I think the 999R. I have looked at them in the showroom close up and I can't see any difference. They may not be exactly the same but I can't spot any changes- the main difference is the price tag- the 999s costs £4000 more than the Monster (basically just for a fairing and a twin sided swinging arm), and the 999R £10000 more (carbon bodywork and a few extra horses). Apparently 999Rs are selling by the boatload at the moment to rich men who want to jump the queue on a Desmosedici as this gives you priority over other purchasers.

I am sure Troy gets even better brakes! (and forks)

the standard 999 doesn't have radial brakes should be just like ours with quicker bite. I'm really smitten for Ducati's but like its been said the money pit syndrome scares me and I don't make nearly as much as most of the ppl on that ducati forum.

What about MV Agusta 750's 2000-03'ish bikes? I love their sound and even more their looks, I've heard they are more reliable and have cheaper service, any truth? the MV's are a smidge ahead of my love afair with ducks they are just much harder to come by.

and if I got a ducati I'd talk to the guys at manley and see what kind deals they offer for service or go with a third party mechanic(and myself) for work on it.

a ducati dealer + Service to said Ducati = RAPE!

As you see it is not what it looks. I mean the brakes of Troy Baylis may look the same as other bike but they are not. I have not tried the S4R so I really can't have a personal comparsion in experience, but I think it has different brakes than the 999 Superbikes from Ducati, According to the Ducati site's description (which is the same on 999 and 999s models )though differs in 999R the R has upgraded brakes I believe than the S)

Besides if the S4R had the same brakes as the 999S and R they would boost on it, It definatelly has the idea of the radial brakes but not the same calliper system, as in 999

If you have a chance to try these Superbikes and how they brake you'll able to notice any differences there are.

ducatibrakes1hw7.jpg

And to further complement that there is an upgrade version even to the 999R on the racing kit also on the brakes. So they may look the same but they are not.

My point is that definately S4R has some strong brakes , but the ones on the Ducati Superbikes Bite even more, cause they are made for track use in mind.

Italians do give attention to details in what they do.

Only the first series of the standard 999 didn't have Radial ,the last 2 versions had.Dunno about the upgrade of the 06 models. The service of MV? dunno you'll have to fond out for yourself, but I guess one will have to rant a lot is some spare parts needed, or? Truth is that they are sencitive motors in the way they hould be repaired and if a small mistake happens this can be costy.

The old S4R had similar Brembos to our Guzzis. The S4Rs Testastretta has always had radial brakes with the same calipers as the 999S.

The new S4R (just launched) now also has same radial calipers as S4Rs and 999s, a Testastretta engine but no Ohlins!

You pays ya money and ya takes ya choice!!

Hmmm was thinking about the ST3/4 but the idea of a long distance/ high milage bike combined with Desmo service intervals(and cost) seems pretty scary.

I know , I know , so it goes...To tell you the truth I can"t give a damm for Ducatis, they may look nice ,but if it is for serious money I"d rather get an MGS1 this FOR SURE it"s a lot of BIKE for yer money, has a better öhlins fork(not to mention other goodies) than any Duke=racing (perhaps R has the same) and it"s value won't fall overnight. ;) ZTK Dukes-- and is a Guzzi ZTK Guzz

I've almost bought one on three different occasions...It's only a matter of time I'm afraid. They keep offering good deals, eventually I'll have to bite.

I've been on several rides this summer that included two different couples on ST-3s. Both of the lady passengers were perfectly happy and comfortable. Seems like a great combination of sport and practical two-up ability.

It would be a no brainer to get a MGS01 but two things. price! and where? they are not cheap in the least and my budget is like 8-10K but I can get a good low miles many extra 999 with everything I Want for 10K plus $500 for shipping :huh2: the new 1098 is already devaluing the bike, and even more when it launches I'm sure.

I don't like the looks of the ST3's tho they are nice bikes

now here's a question what the hell is the testteretta engine??? how is this different from their other offerings? is it like the 2v to 4v guzzi engine kinda thing? :huh2:

is it the testteretta that drains the bank account and not their other engine?

I'm dumb and obviously haven't done enough research. :nerd:

Testastretta in Italian means (I believe) narrow head- basically it is the newer generation watercooled Duke engine (as fitted to the 999) which is narrower, more powerful and less maintenance intensive than its predecessor such as the 916 / 996 /998.

I've ridden a lot of Ducatis and none of them are bad motors, but the Testastretta pulls a lot harder due to its extra 20 odd horses, depending upon which model.

The 2006 onwards Testastretta motors are more maintenance friendly, meaning less work required at each service interval.

I paid £179 in the summer for my S4Rs's first service. I guy I know who has bought a Norge was charged £230 by his Guzzi dealer for its first service so on the face of it, servicing costs are not too high. But the Guzzi owner will be confident of servicing his own bike once it is out of warranty rather than taking it to a dealer. Most Duke owners will continue to get a specialist to service their bikes, even after the warranty has expired.

I would love an MGS01. In fact, when Guzzi announced in the UK that the bike would be road legal and cost £12000 I said to my dealer that I wanted one. When it turned out that it was going to cost £16000 and would not be road legal I changed my mind.

I ride my Duke to work everyday in all weathers and it is reliable as any Honda- somehow I can't see me doing that on an MGS01!

I mention the MGS , contrary to getting a Duke Superbike like the 999S or so, or it makes no real sence.

Therefore you don't have to ride this bike every day , it is also like an investment as well.

I am surprized that a service costed so few for the Duke and more for the Guzz., is it maybe because of the fairing? (extra work time, ect.ect.)

It's the same here concerning the MGS ,It seems to me a very wrong move , of not making MGS into road leagal production.

O.K. Their policy perhaps was to keep this bike 'special edition' or something, but a bike like this even if it was going to be into production it would be made for the few (I woudn't imagine selling like Honda's CBRR's )

And besides why was all this hype and raving from Guzzi it's self e088.gif , about a bike that was:

1.Build only as racing model

2.Never officially supported from Guzzi to race.

3.It was intendet to be in production at the first place.

The decision to get one would be easier for me if it was build 'road leagal' Now it is to 'customising status' c024.gif (buy a bike and build it more....not so inspiring.

According to my Italian translator(s) Testastretta means... Testastretta e088.gif , well it doesn't show anything about this word , perhaps is an expression? :huh2: Or just shows how your bank account will look after buyng one. ...LOL.

Dunno , if you are on a budget and want to get a nice Italian , why not getting another V11 ,it will cost you less and your wife won't even notice (especally if it has the same color. c041.gif

I am afraid I can't offer any help with that.

Thanks for taking care of that point , it looks cool now.If I answer my own quiz can I have another one , none seems to answer it :huh2:
