  1. Ok, my current packing list:

Rain Gear (we had 70mph winds here today. So glad I wasn't flying out today!)

3 pairs of gloves (summer, spring and winter, this is Oregon and you can have all three seasons in one afternoon!)

    Rok Straps

RAM mounts (yes, two, one that can bolt to the mirror/clutch perch and another that can mount in the steering stem http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19070)

Relays (FIVE Omron so I don't have to hear from docc when I hit a bump and pop a relay)

Battery Tender cable (current owner doesn't believe in battery tenders, thinks that if you need one you don't ride enough. Obviously doesn't live in Oregon!)

Battery Tender extension (to run power to the RAM mount)

    Battery Tender to USB adapter

Battery Tender Voltage Meter (the battery is a couple years old so I need to see how strong it is)

    Multimeter

    Allen Wrenches

    Cresent Wrench (Small)

    Zip ties!

Safety Wire (for when zip ties just aren't enough)

Duct Tape (for when zip ties and safety wire isn't enough)

Go Cruise (the aluminum one because the plastic ones break)

Spare bag so I can offload some stuff to the rear rack.

All this plus clothes and other stuff going into my Velomacchi backpack. It's going to be loaded!

It should look interesting going through the TSA checkpoint with this stuff...

  2. That particular RAM mount comes with an assortment of different size fittings which go down inside the steering head tube and when compressed as the allen head screw is tightened, flare out locking the mount in place.  I cant recall why ended up using the small piece of fuel line sandwhiched between a flat washer instead of the supplied fittings.  But it has worked great.

I have the pictures on my phone of the installed mount, and completed assembly with the GPS. pm me your phone number and I will be glad to send them to you.

Thanks. I'm mostly interested in hearing someone say that it does work and what's under that cap (which I still don't know, but I assume it's a hole?) but if the mount works I'm good with that. Thanks!

  3. Hopefully you can fish the wire. On my bike the tank rubs on the rear panel when I lift it. I remove the rear panel because I don't like forcing things. When you remove the seat you will see what I'm talking about. If you just want to be sure you have power for your phone on the return trip you could bring a spare battery - the kind that uses a USB cable to recharge. Then you can take your time with the wiring at home.

Does the tank rub because it's swelled a little? Or does the plastic just distort after a while?

If the wire doesn't cooperate easily I'll be fine. I can charge the phone in the tail while riding. I have one of the big old eyes phone so it holds a charge for a while.

  4. Sooo . . .  while the tank (early/ chin-pad tank with external pump and filter) is really not that difficult to lift, I would not dislodge one in a parking lot, or before a significant ride, just to stretch a charging wire for a mobile device.  Once in the comfort of my bunkered abode, I would get after the Tank Off Maintenance Checklist.

Your V11 Sport looks to be a good candidate to just get on and ride home.:mg:

Fresh fuel, tires, battery, [relays] . . . good to go! :bike:

I suspect I can remove the rear bolt and lift the tank enough to run the wire if there's enough play in the fuel line. As I run the phone as my GPS I'll want to have it handy.

  5.

As for the cable. Just remove the seat and rear body panel. Then the tank is an easy-off - a couple fuel lines and wires and only one bolt. I ran a battery-tender cable from the battery, up the spine to the headlight area. Battery Tender makes a USB adapter. With that, I have easy access for charging (or measuring battery voltage) and can power any USB device with the adapter.

Why do you have to remove the rear body panel to run the cable from the battery to the front?

Which puts it pretty close to Kiwi_Roy.

With the last six digits isn't it pretty easy to guess the rest? Or was the 9th digit random?

Looks like this one was right before they switched to the manual fuel tap (113816).

  7. Scud, nice results.  Can I blame you when my wife sees the bill for the ultrasonic cleaner?  Oh, wait, I got it.  "Honey, I noticed that your jewelry was looking dirty."

Tom M, wire brush is so old school. Plus, like the corrosive Simple Green, you removed 3 grams of alu material from the top of your piston, affecting the compression ratio by 0.00084% and changing the flow dynamics in the squish band.

Not if he used the purple Simple Green. Doesn't harm aluminum.

  8. If there's one thing I do is over-document my adventures. I'm surprised I haven't been kicked off the forum yet.  :ninja:

If you want up to the minute stuff you can follow me on Instagram (swooshdave) and Twitter (@swooshdave). I was going to post to the V11 Sport Facebook group but that's pretty dead (I think the last post was two years ago). And then I'll post to this thread as I can.

With only a 150 mile range I'll have time to upload photos.

    Stay tuned!

And I think you meant West Coast.

  9. Yeah, I've been down to the Bay Area several ways, in all kinds of different vehicles (no bikes). Don't need a medical card in Oregon as it's legal, don't really need one in CA as they don't care.

I'm going to try to get out of the metro area as quickly as possible as the traffic is always horrendous. I don't want to be on a strange bike in heavy traffic in questionable weather.
