  1. Look at your front tire!

The BT 020 front tire seems to wear out very fast (6000 km).

I had more abrasion than on the rear wheel and a "saw tooth" effect too.

    Hi Scura,

I have covered 4.800 kms on my Scura on BT 020 and I can let go of the handlebar at speeds exceeding150 kmph without any weaving. I'll keep an eye on front tyre from now on, that's for sure (thanks for the tip Jan :bike: )

    Søren

PS: Love your name - I've stopped counting the number of times when people say 'scooter' instead of Scura. Some even think it's a 'Senna' when they see the bike parked on the street.....

  2. New to the forum and Guzzis. Any known issues with an '02 Scura.

Also what is usual cost/experience with first service.

    Thanks

Hi 2001f4s (do your mom and pa really call you that??) :D

Don't be scared; the Scura really is an ace bike despite its minor flaws.

Just buy it, ride it and enjoy it.

I've covered 4500 kms on mine since March and I'm still in love.

Good luck and post some photos on the forum, whenever you're ready.

  3. My Scura seems well set up for me at 147lbs...I suspect the previous owner may have been of similar build.

I don't know what the settings are but am loath to change them.

In thirty years of riding I have never owned or ridden anything that comes close.....I started out being objective and was just blown away by it.....Secure, comfortable, compliant & precise....

    Nige. :helmet:

    I'll echo that , Nige eventhough I'm 6'4" and weighs 190 lbs.

I've already fondled with the front suspension, but I have returned to the standard setup, as it suits my riding style the best.

I'm a moderate 'racer' (no hang outs and knee scraping; haven't got the balls for that I suppose) but nonetheless I managed to keep up with a bunch of riders on their suicide japs, who went racing the Kenny Roberts way. In fact I couldn't help laughing, because they really attacked the corners and I just followed suit the old fart way ^_^

    Öhlins or bust!

  4. Gives the café racer look and feel I was after.

..and I think you have got it right, Göran!

I know some people have made comments on your choice of colour, but I really like the mint green and red combo. The red and white saddle really gives it the final touch as well as the 2-1 exhaust system and the Paioli USD fork - a modern V7 Sport, in my humble opinion.

    Keep modifying!

  5. I have a 2003 V11 Sport. The Le Mans faring probably has an impact on performance.

When I first got my bike the fuel economy was terrible. It improved considerably after I'd driven about 1,000 or 1,500 miles.

I usually fill the tank when the reserve light comes on. Fill-up amount is about the same, as is mileage:

3.9 US gallons (about 14L) gets me around 140 miles (about 225km).

I'll echo that, Charles. When the yellow light comes on I normally fill 15 litres in the tank, which means another 225-230 km have been covered. I drive both through town (50-60 kmp/h) and on the highway (130kmp/h >) and cover 110 km per day.

  6. (litterally they didn't give a flying f*** about it. They would pay for the spare parts but wouldn't pay for the labour. Wankers!)

Errr...hang on...was there anything actually wrong with the clutch?

I've read Mogens' letter to the Scandinavian importer in which he complains about the noisy clutch. It's my interpretation, that there is something rotten going on as the Importer offers Mogens spareparts for the clutch job but nonetheless won't pay for the labour. Mogens' local dealer has been loyal and helpful to him all the way, so the main obstacle is the Importer (www.aprilia.dk)

Mogens is on his way home from a trip to Mandello together with a bunch of happy Danish Guzzisti (the annual trip to the Holy Grail :) ), but he's also active in this forum under name of Rosso Mandello. Mogens, are you there??

  7. Many thanks, John.

That is the information I needed.

Thanks to everyone for their input on this.

    Your assistance is greatly valued.

    Nige.

    Hi Nige,

I can also chip in regarding a noisy clutch on my Scura. I made an inquiry in this forum called Shake, rattle and ?? because I had the exact same experience as you.

I also find the noise not only annoying but also embarassing as it sounds like the engine is being badly maintained (which it isn't!!)

I spoke to my fellow Dane, Mogens Mortensen, who also had the the same problem with his Rosso Mandello. He complained to the Scandinavian importer, but to absolutely no avail (litterally they didn't give a flying f*** about it. They would pay for the spare parts but wouldn't pay for the labour. Wankers!)

  8. I have the FBF airbox, valves and 11:1 pistons. Also Mistral exhust and crossover plus PC III. I love it all but the pistons are the greatest asset. I don't believe it is any faster in a straight line but the midrange is incredibly boosted and the throttle response is amazing. I have also found about a 5 mpg increase in fuel consumption. i am going to try a Stucchi crossover because I have heard they are better for top end performance but I'm really happy as it is now. I can loft the front wheel with just throttle now in first gear - not what many people expect from a Moto Guzzi.

Proofs Jim, proofs! We wanna see the pics!

PS: Your mods sound good; I may go down the same road as I also miss a little more grunt from the Mandello porker.

  10. Is there a decent workshop manual available?

    Nige.

    Nige,

    Check this homepage

I've downloaded a manual for my Scura there. Good luck!

PS: Sorry about the blunder about the screen for your Scura. I have mounted a LeMans fairing on my Scura, as I'm a lanky fellar. See the pics on the gallery/V11 mods.

    Cheers

  11. I got a 'brighter bulb' from Evoluzione. Actually the wattage is the same but it has a whitish-blue color which appears to be brighter. The std Guzzi light is kinda yellow. To my eyes the new bulb seems alot more visable ( which was my primary reason for the change ) and I've noticed on other bikes that the Blue-white stands out much better then the yellowish headlights. Night riding has improved from really bad to merely bad.

To me there is still too much guess work at night but for $10 it seems like a really good and easy upgrade. Others have reported substantial improvements by upgrading wire and relays. The stock arrangement leaves alot to be desired and there are some claims that 15% of the available power is consumed before reaching the bulb. Certainly possible.

    Hi Bruce,

Can you tell a bit more about that "Evoluzione" thingie, as I also hate to be left in the dark? Is it something that you get at the local gas station or do you have to go somewhere else?

I've also tried to adjust the low beam but Danish car drivers don't seem to appreciate my efforts :luigi: Alternatively I have some plans about changing to Xenon lights as I have on my Ford Mondeo, but it's expensive, unfortunately.

Keep the sticky side of the tyres down!

  12. I just bought a LeMans V11 and wanted to take a 1000 mile trip in two days. Mostly interstate, a day to rest and two days back. I know my seat gets hard in a couple of hours of riding. Padded bicycle shorts should help, but I wonder if the LeMans is simply not the bike to do this on.

Any comments would be appreciated. I don't want to end up sorry. The last time I rode 1000 miles in two days I had a Ducati ST4 and it did just fine. I am not sure about this 'Guzzi though.

    Thanks,

    Frank

    Hi Mr. Apex,

I did a 500 miles (800km) trip in one day on my Scura and beside piss poor weather conditions (heavy rain and gail winds) and a broken transmission spring, which left the bike in fourth gear for approx. 200 miles, everything went fine <_>

I wasn't knackered by any means so on yer bike mate! :bike:

    Have a nice 'un

  13. the transmission play and gearshift might be related to each other.

I had a scura, and it shifted like any jap bike: smooth, but I have to say, I did have the traditional 2 plate clutch in it, not the single plate scura clutch.

The scura clutch is known for making noise, some have been replaced under warranty.

What do you mean that on/off trottle is a problem, what is the problem?

    Hi there!

I can only say 'aye' to all what Paul has stated. The clutch rattles like two skeletons shaggin' on a tin roof, but the gearshift itself is smooth. The rattling sound is annoying when stooping for a red light; it sounds like a badly maintained engine and I feel everybody is looking.

In general the Scura is NOT made for commuting in town; it doesn't run well under those circumstances. But when you hit the open roads....... :bike:

    Best regards

  14. Spending at least two hours a day on the raod commuting to and from work (110 kms/70 miles) there's is one thing that I miss: A clock!

I have plans about fitting a cheap bicycle watch, i.e. ciclosport, VDO etc. (yes, I used to be a fairly competitive bicycle road racer) on the dash board as the Scura one's are all rubber mounted. Any other ideas, hints or..????

    Thanks in advance

  15. :luigi::luigi:

Can someone please give me the link or information about the recall regarding some gearbox/transmission probs.

I read it before but cant't find it again.

Also if you now witch numbers was in the recall!

I have a Rosso Mandello -01 and if I'm unlucky (as always) I have to take "my Monster" to the shop!

    Best regards from Stefan

  16. Well, I see that sometime today Jaap went through with his "threat"

The "post now or die" section is gone, and our ranks of our vaunted forum have been reduced by about half, to around 500 members.

Here's hoping it adds stability to the forum DB :bier:

Now, if we can just get those others that only have 1 or 2 posts to get "in gear" and start tinkering more with their bikes and posting ;)

Great work as always Jaap

    al

I'll drink to that :bier: - this is a valuable site, from which we all can benefit. The more input we give, the better site we get. Thanks to Jaap and his Merry Men for keeping up the good work!

As V11 owners we obviously have a lot in common. We all (well, most) suffer from the same hick ups, i.e. broken tranny springs, rubbish electrical components and so on, but all in all we have a passion for the big, brute from Mandello.

  17. Hi Lads,

Well it seems the battery is dieing, and Moto Guzzi will not replace it under warranty, much like tires, brake pads, etc.

I want to get a battery with the highest cranking amp power available. Are there any one out there that has changed the stock battery?

    Ciao, Steve G.

    Hi Steve,

They are running an ad in the Danish Guzzi club magazine for a battery called "Genesis". According to the ad (haven't got any info whether it's a load of :moon: or it's really true) the battery is a closed, sealed type with enough power to replace a 32 amp with a 16 amp  , requires no service at all, can be mounted vertically or horizontally and what have you.

Anybody out there who has tried this eight wonder??

    Søren Tikkanen, Denmark

  18. Since I didn't find anyone discussing this, I am wondering what helmet you think works best (besides personal fit), based on style, features, weight, etc...

Arai and nothing else! This helmet rocks - no fog, good ventilation, snug fit - buy it!

  19. Speaking of the devil.........

I just did a 800 km (500 miles) trip to the western part of Denmark. On the return trip my gearbox decided that 4th gear was enough for me! I begged, jumped, hopped, pleased, yanked but to no avail - the bloody thing is stucked in fourth gear. Luckily it's still under warranty but to be quite honest I'm not too impressed about this - the bike has only been in my custody for a month and I've only covered 2000 km on it! Shame on you Guzzi! You have more then 80 years of experience and still flaws like this occur.

    Søren not-so-happy-and-a-bit-p***** off Tikkanen, Denmark

PS: Just got my LeMans fairing on - looks awesome. Pics will be posted as soon as possible (I'm a complete jerk when it comes to computers and technique) :luigi:

  20. Having just covered 1000 kms on my Scura (#580) the future doesn't seem too bright, unfortunately

The only hick-ups I have noted so far is the distinguished rattle when the engine is iddling. Furthermore, my Scura is not to happy when driving in the city; it seems like a fuel injection problem. On three occassions the engine has let me down when stopping for a red light downtown Copenhagen.

Normal behaviour for a Guzzi or shall I raise hell at the dealer?

    Thanks in advance.

  21. Just spent a week in Rome, Italy and the movie clip might as well been shot there. Those scooter and motorcycle riders down there drive like madmen/women on crack!

If you tried to get away with the same stunts up here in Denmark you would face the electric chair. :not:

Personally I think stunts like that belong on a race track but I'm probably just a boring old fart without a death wish.....

Keep the sticky side of the tyres down!
