  1. I have added a Google Map with all the required stops for this year's Texas tour in my OP. This is my fourth stop, #31.
  2. They checked it while replacing the leaky seal. They said it did not need to be replaced. Since I am now going to keep the car, if it does not need to be replaced, then I shan't. I may revisit this decision once I get that automatic tension system overhauled.
  3. So I was at Einer's this morning, and the fault was identified. It has to do with the left cylinder bank cam shaft, and only at cold start-ups. The technician called me to show me the values on the Porsche version of GuzziDiag. According to the 911 Doctor, this is (one more) of the Porsche component that are bound to need replacement because they wear off. Something to do with the automatic tension system of the distribution chain. As you would expect, they need to drop the engine to get access. Meanwhile, I took the Guzzi to make stop 31 yesterday, and no leak after the 100 miles return trip.
  4. Lithium batteries develop what is called a “passivation” layer when not in use. cold environment exacerbate the phenomenon. the advice from Docc is very valid. Before you attempt to draw serious amps, warm up the battery by running lights or else. my company started using Lithium batteries from the 80’s. Working with SAFT to improve them. Of course we used our batteries for a different application but we faced the same issues. something that nobody tells you, but a lithium battery is best left “energized” if possible. A very low draw is better than a big surge before use (charging before use). we had a device that made use of resistors to do just that. I don’t understand why battery manufacturers don’t include such device part of their batteries. They are aware of the con’s of lithium ion batteries. Something else. Batteries that have been stored a long time on shelf before purchase suffer from that same passivation problem.
  5. Here's a recap of using Ethanol free fuel from Buc-ee's. Usage from April 18th was mixed city and highway. I refilled with Ethanol Less at Buc-ee's once more yesterday. I still have not noticed any blatant difference between Ethanol and Ethanol free. However, I don't think I was running on pure gas just yet. I have not checked what is the density difference of both fuel. They probably mix and dilute, not separate.
  6. Nothing that should have implied an engine warning light to come up. Changing seals and shock absorbers back and front. They just changed a seal and took a look at the oil exchanger.
  7. @PJPR01 Got the 911 back yesterday; six miles out of the shop, engine check light came on.... it's always nice when you just spent two V11 equivalent.....
  8. Well if the Tonti spine frame is sensitive to tire profiles, then which profile would suit it best? is there a thread on this? I mean, other than which tire brand and model do your recommend?
  9. According to certain tire manufacturers, tire pressure and tire construction play a role in fuel consumption. I am yet to verify this on my motorbike. Maybe these statements are applicable to automobile tires. My Michelin Road 5 make a big difference in the LeMans handling. That I could feel right from the ride out with fresh rubber. Is this because the previous set of tire was old? not worn, but old as per date of manufacture?
  10. @VtwinStorm I have been recording my refuels since I got the bike, last year in April 2021. Below is a screen shot of the application I use to track all my trips and refuels. The two last refuels on April 18th shows the following: 32 miles per gallon is more or less what I do when I run errands in the city. 40.7 miles per gallon is a run from H'town to Navasota, with Ethanol free gas refueling at Buc-ee's Waller. The 37.1 average miles per gallon is current. I usually do 150 miles and I refuel. Although I have pushed it to 200 miles with the reserve warning lit.
  11. This is always a concern, but in small towns, they usually have only one station; the turn around is most likely high. Watered down diesel is more worrisome especially when diesel powered cars are in the minority.
  12. Do you plan your trips according to Ethanol Free Gas availability? At least as long as you remain in Texas, it is not impossible. Still a challenge with a 150 miles safe autonomy motorcycle.

  14. True that. I actually do not know where Buc-ee's purchase their gas. This is a question I asked them, through their website. They never answered so far. I asked last year. I usually fuel up at Costco, and I did notice a difference when I use Buc-ee's' gas. Or maybe it is my imagination again.
  15. @docc the only engines that ran smoothly in speed sustaining mode (back in these days) were the 2 strokes. Also, carburetors and crude ignition systems were probably not as finicky in that way. Obviously, harmonizing the carburetors using level depression meters was probably a work of art.
  16. If your V11 does not cough, it is because you have an updated injection map. The cough originates from the obligation to respect European emission rules; the so called EURO-X. Guzzi could have easily ignored these rules for USA exports V11; but why bother? just make them all compliant with the most stringent requirements. Unless of course, you are VW, and trick the test.
  17. For me, the test is quite easy. I just have to run the engine at low rpm, in 1st gear, and the V11 tells me immediately it does not like that. At all. As I record all my refueling using the Tripit app, I want to fill it a few more times with Ethanol Free gas, just to check if I get a better autonomy on top of a better injection.
  18. I washed the engine yesterday, took it for a 50 miles run today; I could not see any seepage. I am wondering if it only happens when I run it above 5k rpm. I am not certain I would do a 22 miles return trip just to fill up with Ethanol free gas. Unless it is on my way. I think John meant that we can use Ethanol mixed gas with our V11, but not in our Corvettes. At least not the vintage ones.
  19. I don't have a Corvette. If I was to have one, it would probably be a C3, and out of the C3 line, most likely a 1976. Red of course.
  20. @PJPR01 Just to confirm, Buc-ee's Katy sells ethanol free gas too. It is probably psychological, but it seems my bike coughs less on Eth free gas. Needs to be confirmed though.
  21. I thought it was kind of sloppy of them sending equipment which if misused could lead to injury. Somehow, I understood it as your safety is not our concern. It did not really matter that instructions were in German. They could have been in Japanese or sanskrit. It gave me the wrong impression of MG Cycles. Maybe I should not read too much into it, but I have dealt with other V11 parts providers which seemed to be more interested in their customer' satisfaction. I think Mick Jagger wrote a song about not getting any.... satisfaction!
  22. Back to the Becker-Technik Central Lifter: I purchased a 26 inches breaker bar; Thus, foot+breaker bar means I can now deploy on rugged surfaces. I will add a video once I get a tripod for my DGI Pocket 2.
  23. I have two gripes with MG Cycles: When I received the Becker stand, the instructions sent were in German. Not a big deal, but I wrote to them to draw their attention about it. The laconic answer was: "you can use google translate"... nice! instead, I contacted Becker and asked them to send me an English procedure, which they did. I transmitted the pdf file to MG Cycles, and they have now included it. They never even said thanks for something they may have wanted to do themselves. Not that I did it for them, but for those who may be interested to purchase that stand. Also, if you purchase anything with a price tag below 10 USD, they add a 10 USD surcharge. So, mixed feelings about MG Cycles.
  24. I liked this better than the current MotoGP series; it is currently available to watch for free if you are an Amazon Prime member. This documentary revolves around Laguna Seca 2005, and the main protagonists are three now retired MotoGP riders: Valentino Rossi, Colin Edwards and the late Nicky Hayden. It is a truthful testimony of what a MotoGP week-end is, and an homage to the regretted Nicky Hayden who passed away in 2017. What makes this piece special are the post comments during the race from Valentino Colin and Nicky, describing what went through their minds at the time. John Hopkins is also a major contributor.
