  1. We got really good TPS readings on linked and unlinked TB's. We also put a PC on my bike too but was mapped pretty different and we couldn't get the bike to idle. Took it off - good for me to see how those things go on/off so easily. I will be getting a pc next. A couple of factors led me to not change the tps setting right then! (1) I was totally pressed for time to get back to Stockton and (2) Without the time, I chickened out of changing my settings (it was fine to mess up Carl's v11!-- this was a big factor actually as after I changed the TPS settings on Carl's v11, we went to start it and due to not being run form some time, the battery died. So not seeing the result of that tinkering I was relunctant to turn mine!) knowing that one thing will throw something else off and me not have the time to re-set correctly in time. Sooooo, this coming Saturday the tps and tb, idle, etc., will be set -- hey, at least I got to ride to Modesto and back.
  2. I rode to Carl's place in Modesto this a.m. and we fooled around with my TPS setting -- it was waaaay off. Carl's an amazing guy- like with 4 (did I loose count?) guzzi's laying around. We messed with the TPS setting (practice is a good thing) on his 1100i -- that is one beautiful bike).
  3. working on your v11 is a good thing
  4. I've been reading all the threads on setting the TPS and balancing the TB. Checked into getting the guzziology book too. I tested the mV reading at the TPS with TB still linked - got 345.8 mV which just tells me that I need to unlink those TB's and have rt side closed, etc. (but my reading is still way off the 500mV it should be while linked , right?) Warming up to it! Do we have a diagram showing where all the set screws are located on those TB's? Where is the one for the left side TB on the lemans? and how does one "carefully pry apart" the right side ball joint linkage. Do I carefully put the screwdriver into the ball joint itself and pry it open? Oh brother!
  5. you all got me reading the threads on TPS and tb balance, etc. Several take the TPS mv reading at the throttle body where the tps is and not at the little computer under the seat - but then they talk about measuring at terminals 16 and 30 on ecu. One thread says to trace the wires back to the ecu and measure there (like I said). So if I measure at the tps, how do I do that I want to do all this but I'll need to read and then ask questions! Does that PCIII really help and do I still need to do all this if I get that! A BMW site had an inexpensive manometer - sounded like Dave's idea. I can get those parts and assemble that (yardstick with 3/16 clear tubing, etc.)
  6. ok on the tb balance- it would help that wouldn't it if I connected the 2 vacuum nipples back on and run a line between the two?? no? I did adjust my vlaves 2 months ago to the world type specs. Only things that have changed was the heat outside and the taking off of emission stuff and plugging the vacuum ports. My idle appears great at 1k. So why not just adjust that little knob of the left side and skip all the rest of the tb balance and idle stuff? In the past I have noticed that while riding constant at 3k (like using the throttlemeister) the bike will cough, stutter, etc., occasionally. Is this all related? on the tps voltage check - where on the 1Aw15 do I do that.-- take off the cover? any help here would help ( ) on the tb balance - can I use any old manometer to connect between the two?
  7. OK, I'm riding home in 102-104 degree heat, everything running fine and I'm tired. The goose starts sputtering and coughing. After about 10 miles I figure out "something must be wrong here " So I look down and my left throttle body shoe intake sleeve thingy is not where its supposed to be. It blew off the intake. A flat head screw driver put it right soon enough but what is this from??? Heat??? Were my two bolts I inserted into where the vacuum nipple was too long and interferred with the intake? Why do these bikes occationally do that? info
  8. oh yeah al, on your bolts- difference might be 02 vs 03,-- no?
  9. gottcha. after this trip (where else- back to Cederville- this time getting there in one day ), I'll put in ss!
  10. ok Al, are you saying I need ss bolts in there
  11. OK- I did two things! I put lock tite on the brass nipples and then re-stuck those plastic niple things back on-- they've held for 24 hours now (wow!) and seem to be tight. But.... I bought two bolts for $.79 and put those on! I put my two nipples with caps into my guzzi repair bag under da seat. So I'm set! Great forum.
  12. great advice from all. I have one more day before I take off again on a 4 day ride. I'll look for auto type nipples that look like the brass/bronze nipple head (you know, curvy looking), next I'll try the bolt thing from Al -- do you what size?. If I can't do that I'll use my old hoses and run one between them with the original clamps on them! oh brother!
  13. ok dumb question - I took off my emission stuff from my le mans. good so far. I bought 1/4" vacuum nipples and put them on the vacuum inlets on both sides. they were too small and broke going on. so I bought 3/16 nipples and they went on just right. now 2 days later I looked down and both were missing. I put two more on. should I clamp them on? lock tite? help. thanks
  14. BTW- the customer service lady is Cathy I think -- she is really helpful
  15. well, at least we're on the same page. Man Dave, you rode the wheels off that beemer- Snadpoint and back in 3 days? How many hours is that?
  16. Hi Dave -- I think the other posts sound about right but still darn frustrating. Try calling mg in georgia @ 678-238-0902 as another step. might help. couldn't hurt. good luck.
  17. i have them on my o3 le mans - regular not the heavy ones. Terrific. Simple installation. The package stated "Aprilia" but it's for le mans!
  18. On my last ride to Cedarville, CA, I met up with those 3 guys riding around the country using their hauler to get to a place and then ride. THEY said hwy 36 (on Pashnit's list) as being the BEST road they've been on. I have'nt been on that one but I'd like to
  19. Hey Orson -- good to hear from you. What I don't like about 70-80 mph twisties is TRAFFIC. Light to none- I'm in my element and I can relax and really enjoy 5 yrs back or so I got bumped off the road going 55 in a tight turn by a guy in a pu going the opposite direction in my lane!. I can now ride in traffic but I sure don't like it! As to the le mans wheelbase-- it is fantastic and stable -- totally agree - and that adds greatly to my confidence (being built back up!)
  20. Thanks Mike and Al -- Al, you'll have to tell me more about that ride in San Luis??? Will you be there???? I know, baby 'n all Mike, let me know. Acutally- I know I'm nuts- but I'm planning another Cederville trip maybe late July- There's women in those hills Sorry about the beamer! On the altitude -- good possibility. My last 2 rides over though the goose seemed to roar over. This time, sluggish. I did put in a brand new air cleaner before I left which seemed to really help things at lower elevations. Safe Riding.
  21. The Goose was PERFECT- after that first day which I admit being too tried/stressed The Le Mans handling 100 mph mile after mile and going 1200 miles with zero problems -- hey-- when I got to Cedarville (*TIRED) I tried to park my goose. The road was too steep and I let her drop Unbelievable. Broke the left side front turn indicator plastic thingy (lens). I immediately bought a tube of glue of some kind at the market and glued it back on-- can't tell. I also immediately called MG Cycle and ordered another one plus ordered front brake pads -- when I left I was meaning to replace those pads -- no time! On the trip I hardly used my brakes for fear of those pads!!! The Bike- 100% perfect. I swear, the goose reads your thoughts! The guzzi tank bag -- expands nicely and held all my stuff plus the stuff I bought on the way- the squirrel war book in Cedarville and a Great Race JACKET in Truckee. My gas mileage kept improving as I went too -- what's with that? My last tank I got close to 170 miles before the warning light flickered (flickered once and went out). The goose felt secure in high winds (on 395 from Susanville to Hallelujah junction), through heavy rain in the mountains (sorry. I feel like a woos saying that considering some of you guys ride in Europe, etc, where rain is common). My ideal day is still 4 hours riding! I like to get to someplace, check in to a nice room, and have fun. 8 hours was way beyond my comfort zone! Harley guys don't wave. I wave to them just to bug 'em. Oh, forgot, just before I left I bought a pair of riding type pants with armor in the knees and nice padding in the hips and stuff. First day I hated them. (figures). But the rest of the ride, they were great. In the desert they kept my cool, in the cold of the Storm they were warm! The protection helped my head
  22. In Cedarville Paradise The Drew Hotel - is a must stay if you guys ever get up there The family who run it are warm and real. Ranching backgrounds (figures). $36/night. Wonderful.. The Drew is right on the main street with an out of this world eating place two stores down. I mean fabulous food (lobster, etc.) for unreal prices. It's kind of controversial with the local people wven the lady who operates has been there for 20 years -- she's still kind of considered an "outsider" in some ways The town is famous for their annual squirrel wars in March. That makes a terrific story in itself. The road back--- big mistake!! I took 299 from Cedarville over the hill to Alturas where every policeman in the state must have been staying (I counted 17 in my pass through town). 395 from Alturas to Susanville -- Don't do it!!!! Long and tiring. The desert is better Took me 8 hours on my bike to get to Truckee, CA!!!! THE WALL. From Seirravill to Truckee I rode through a tremendous thunder storm. I have never ridden in rain before riding in rain for the first time on twistie rodes is not fun. Every 2-3 seconds I'd wipe my glove over my face shield to see. Pouring! At Truckee, rain stopped. I turned into a B and B for $96/night -- only place open since the "Great Race" was going on. In the morning (after watching the Giant's Dodger's ) I went to Lake Tahoe on hwy 89. At Emerald Bay I met up with 3 guys from Minnesota on 2 R6's and 1 F4i. They pack the bikes in a hauler and drive to where they want to ride. camp and get the bikes out! I picked up hwy 88 and went home (tired again). Zero police on 88 all the way from tahoe to my house-- highly unsual. I did not like riding hey 88 high up in the hills. There was lots of traffic, all of it going FAST and of course the rode up there is very twistie (higher speed twisties). I hate twisties, at 70-80 mph, in traffic (my past accident thing no doubt). OK- the Goose
  23. Pic shows Fort Bidwell at the END of paved roads in N. CA. Ft Bidwell is 26 miles past Cedarville which I took early (7 am) the next morning after getting to Cedarville at 1:00 pm the day before. This road is gorgeous -- family ranches everywhere and long sweepers. Terrific speed and light traffic (4-6 trucks the whole way). I did pass several pick up trucks going opposite direction on this early morning ride. They ALL waved to me as I went by them, often in excess of 100 This is way beautiful country. Terrific people (did I say that enough)
  24. 2 miles out of Gerlach (a Company town), is a little place where I was greeted by this pic. This is where apparently they hold the Burning Man thing which I know nothing about. Millions of people come here (exaggeration) and walk around naked I'm told. Past Gerlach the road is nice and twistie again but it's also rough. It's really remote feeling from Gerlach to Eagleville -- in the Surprise Valley. Home of the famous Squirrel Wars in Cedarville First town is Eagleville. Nice people here too. And things are green again.
  25. Through Nixon and past Pyramid lake (forgot to take pics there!. This pic shows what the road looks like on 447 to Gerlach. I tried to be super careful and only went really fast when nobody was in sight I do not need a ticket But I did have 17 full minutes of over 100 m p h here with bursts up to 1 2 5. Each time I approached a ridge I slowed way down. I had read the Reservation police really watch you here
