  1. right and thanks. I called another guzzi shop and they're sending the same stuff I had in the final drive. The bottle says moto guzzi final drive oil or something like that!
  2. Brief and dumb (I'm mechanically inept)- I changed the three main fluids again -- engine, gearbox and final drive. I ran out of the guzzi final drive oil for the shaft drive. Can i buy any final drive oil product like Honda or whatever or does it need to be guzzi I called the sacramento guzzi shop (peformance cycle) and the guy told me he is no longer a guzzi distributor.
  3. You're the guy I read your thread I believe a long time ago about the screwdriver puncture thing! Well, I changed all my fluids- with the usual spill with the rear drive gunk! Hole's too small. And when I started it up, NO RED LIGHT. I rode it around- keeping it under 4k and seems to be alright-- time will tell! Thanks all.
  4. PICS-- everyone likes pics one pic shows both pieces of the left mirror. The mirror part is hollow plastic with a hollow plastic hole with a "lip" that fits into and between the two metal sleaves on the bracket. The spring thing w/nut looks like is for adjusting how loose/tight one wants their mirrow to turn - which kind of means you should be able to take it off and adjust it!!! The inside metal ring definately has a lip to receive the plastic mirror lip! I tried the hot water thing with no luck. $50 here I come.
  5. right. I'm changing the darn oil now as a matter of fact. When I dropped the pan, the oil filter up in there was just barely threaded on -- I mean REALLY loose/wobbly! What the heck! So what? Next time put it on tighter? Seems strange. Also by the left cylinder hear front I find two sensor looking things! One has a blue lead going into a narrow connector that I can reach and take off/on -- kind of looks like a small spark plug thingy (descriptive, eh). The other sensor looking thing is black and lays flat and is screwed down. How can you tell if the sensor is bad -- course this might be moot as all might work once put back together
  6. I'm going to change my oil sooner than expected. Like maybe tonight. Where is the sensor anyway??? is it by the left cylinder head front?? How can I test that out??
  7. Not a bad possible solution there Admin Jaap Tonight I'll try steaming and/or soaking the plastic mirror end in hot water to soften it and then attempt re-inserting into the bracket. I'll take a pic or so to show what the heck I'm talking about too-- a new mirror is something like $50 I think which I'd rather avoid if possible.
  8. Slug-- no rain at all. I do wash the goose like 2x weekly but have not had this problem before. Tonight, no wash! I checked the fuses-ok.
  9. OK, I think I'm having a bad karma day! While I was checking the oil light thing (see the thread!) I lightly brushed against my left mirror and it fell off The plastic hollow mirror part fell off from the articulated rubber boot over the metal bracket. Bracket is ok. Has anyone ever tried to put the plastic mirror part back onto the bracket??? I can see where the plastic goes into a bracket but nothing I've done so far has worked. Would a pic help?
  10. Ok, I got back from our CA mother lode ride 3 days ago. Oil was ok. Been riding the le mans every day. Tonight I checked the oil level and it looked a little low. Thought I'd top off later. Went into town a couple of miles then headed home. ON the way home the red engine oil light goes on. I ride it home (like 3 miles) and add a qt of oil and started the bike. Red light still on. Oil level looks ok now too. Now I did add the only oil I had left - which was not exactly identical to the 100% synthetic I had in it. I was going to change the oil (it's almost due). Suggestions anyone?
  11. :!: Carl- I totally have it all figured out! (I mean the part about the picture - I don't seem to have much of anything else figured out yet!) Although you are apparently using a nice HUGE monitor- something like a 42" plasma or something, -- right.... you are STILL using a MAC! Well then, that just about sums it up, doesn't it... A Mac is too intuitive and controlling to actually let you resize your own pics, etc., so it does that for you. In this instance, YOUR Mac took GuzzTim's perfectly fine pic and resized it, thus excludding the quasi-good stuff. My Mac at work does that all the time! Make sense?
  12. actually you don't really "see" her. just her naked belly
  13. Carl- click on the thumb nail and then scroll around a bit for background stuff Thanks too Carl for organizing everything- don't know how 8 people could coordinate everything at the same time and actually pull off a meet like that! Next time, there's always us going over by the coast, or re-visiting the hills in places we didn't go this time....
  14. I think maybe GuzzTim was focussing on something else in the pancake pic. Click on the thumbnail and check out the waitress
  15. we all road by backroads to Jackson for lunch. Terrific roads all the way. At Jackson some of us ate lunch, others waited for some time and then took off (davidb, Dave Pott and wife back up to the other gold country towns, GuzzTim back to Danville). Frank, Mark in Hollister, callison, and I ate! and then headed down hwy 88 to various points home. Hey, this was a great ride with terrific people. Couldn't ask for a better bunch. and we had zero accidents! and only one (1) bike dropped while parked. Next time-- we need to go on an overnighter someplace. Wait for Spring I'm sure the others will add their comments/pics too.
  16. from the bridge we rode up hwy 108/120 and swung north on a little road going by lake tulluch and the prison (no pics), then wound our way to Copperopolis (in 1849-50 was a runner-up to be named the California capitol -- now has maybe 200 people???) then east again to Angels Camp to for a break in San Andreas-- davidb leading here. davidb leads us through awsome and little used roads to this dam where he works. We take a private road (nice and sweepy) to the dam -- take a break and then cross the dam (no pics). The dam was built in the 1920's and crossing it was different as the road had like 8' walls going across the single lane on the top of the thing.
  17. exploring some history still -- we do h ave an absense of road pics with this trip but good nonetheless....
  18. ok, the first stop was the wooden covered bridge. The shot before shows the outside and this is the inside. Sightseeing touristss on mg's
  19. leaving Mantecca like geese in a line (plus!). This was too cool.
  20. After missing my mark in Modesto and then backtracking to Mantecca I find the Mangy Moose and see a line of gooses plus! What a sight. Mark in Hollister had to fight pretty good (read- bad) wind coming over hwy 152 to I-5 down to Mantecca. Guzz Tim coming over from Danville had to leave early too to beat the EAST before the sun could blind him. Meantime, davidb and Dave and Jamillee (there's that spelling again!) drifted down from Murphy's in the gold country where they're spending like a 4-day road trip. Callison rode in from -- where else-- Modesto where I WAS, Frank lives in Mantecca!
  21. hmmmm... the idea seemed to spawn in callison's fertile brain.... others caught on to it.... The "maybe last ride in October" bunch got together in central California for a 1 day ride through the mother lode and parts thereabouts. Members in the pick below met at the MANGY MOOSE cafe in Mantecca CA., for breakfast. Of course me-- figures-- I leave my house at 7:00 a.m. and go to Modesto! and actually look for the Mangy Moose there A telephone call later and I'm off again for my morning coffee to join the others already there. Members included: Frank Word (v11 Ballabio), GuzzTim (v11 Sport), Dave Pott (v11) and his awsome wife Jamallee (Triumph Bonneville) - (of course I can't spell, and for sure, even after checking with callison, mispelled it!), tomsp (lemans), davidb (broken v11 sport riding bmw r1100s), callison (MG something??!!), and MarkinHollester (California Special) The idea was to let callison lead to the wooden covered bridge in the gold country foothills. davidb will lead after that as he knows those hills like there's no tomorrow.
  22. carl my man now i have to ask is it going to be alive for sunday! and yes, davidb will be glad to lead (dave, I'm not talking for you!) - he does know all those darn roads well. hey i'm fighting a cold coming on but i'll be there bright and early. Rain is expected saturday morning but sunday should be ok
  23. carl-- davidb will be there too- he lives in san andreas and knows those backroads like nobody else. see you sunday a.m.
  24. sounds like a bunch of folks may be coming- this is a good thing Al, you'll only freeze for like one hour coming over (but then again I think with all the stuff on your bike you'll be warm enough! - from my house to Moto Italiano, over the Altimont takes one hour in moderate to light traffic - just for reference). I'd sure like to actually meet everyone too after having to read all your stuff these many months Carl, were you talking about that villa toscona place for lunch -- that's a NICE place I hear. From there, like you said, people can head back "over the hill" or go back to Modesto or whatever-- good plan actually. With the route you've outlined, this will definately be a great ride - no kidding.
