  1. Does anyone know what the fuel-tank thread size is? diameter and pitch?
  2. This is interesting theory, but I wonder if anyone here KNOWS the issues at hand. I have first hand experience with this issue in the automotive context, since someone I live with (who shall remain nameless in order to protect the guilty) has a bad habit of running out of gas in her car. It is a FI car with in-tank fuel pump. I have always simply refuelled the thing and started it, with perhaps a few seconds more turnover than usual. It starts right up and runs as if nothing untoward has happened. This is probably something that has happened15-20 times in 2 years. Still no apparent consequences. Let's look at the Guzzi system. Gravity feed to the fuel pump....might naturally purge the air to the pump. Pressurized fuel through the plumbing to the regulator...air shouldn't interfere with that. Pressurized fuel at the injector intake should flow through the solenoid valve unimpeded. The pintle isn't particularly highly spring-loaded, so fuel should pass that too. Aside from potential pump damage (real or imagined) what is REALLY at stake? Anybody have real experience with the Guzzi in this regard? Todd..... do you spend any time replacing failed EFI parts becasue of fuel exhaustion?
  3. Jeff, I understand that some FI fuel pumps use fuel for lubrication, but I do not understand what other issues arise from fuel starvation. Also, totally running out of fuel couldn't be any less harmful for the system, and I think depending on an idiot light for that is asking for it.
  4. Is there a manual petcock that has 2 positions (normal/reserve)? Alternately, are there separate ones, one for normal and one for reserve?

    I know...

I have a clutch noise issue with my "new" 2000 V11 Sport, also. It is the rythmic, loud tapping when the clutch lever is not touched, that concerns me. The "rattle" noise when the clutch is pulled is much less disconcerting.

  7. Thanks Rich! It's certainly a class piece! Just a bit of "improving" and it'll become my favorite bike, I'm sure! Besides, in this town of just
  8. We tried Nitrogen but it just liquified!
  9. Thanks!! Is there a manual unit that has 2 positions (normal/reserve)? Alternately, are there separate ones, one for normal and one for reserve?
  10. Completed the Out of Province Safety Inspection, and the RIV Compliance Inspection today........... more questions! Clattering noise at idle.... sounds like a big end bearing...... goes away when clutch lever is pulled..... Is this NORMAL?? Manual says 0.002 valve lash on both sides for "American Spec". Rest of world is 0.004/0.006. Now that the bike is free of y'all.... can I set it to these more intelligent lash settings? Is the electric fuel solenoid a frequent source of fuel leak? Is the throttle butterfly shaft a common source for fuel drips? Here is the vacuum take-off for sync'ing the throttle bodies?? Is there ANY vacuum take-off, anywhere? Is that retarded battery placement correct?? What terrific workmanship....... mostly!!

  12. Note the turbine exhaust pipe.............. Note the heat seeking missles. 50 miles?? ........ maybe 50 meters!
  13. gallo... VERY funny!! We use the Celcius temperature scale up here.... much like the rest of the world! 0 C = freezing and -40 C = -40 F .... 100 C = boiling. It has been -40 C/F for weeks at a time this winter. Car oil is 5- W40 synthetic. The motorcycle has 20W-50 but only runs in the heated garage. The Michelin Pilot Road tires were not available with studs! As for brakes and other hydraulics..... all our stuff is cable-actuated becasue it's so cold.!!

Is the throttle butterfly shaft a common source for fuel drips? Got to 2 of the grease zerks on the drive shaft, but not the front cross zerk. Is there a trick or is this a disassembly issue? Why would the PO have drilled 4 1-1/4 holes in the airbox lid? Is that retarded battery placement correct?? What terrific workmanship....... mostly!!
  15. I'd love to see that! The 'blade fairings are readily available in fiberglass from a number of sources! I love riding behind the fairing of my 900RR
  16. OK.... one more legitimate question....... I am looking at the pair of keys that came with the bike. They have plastic heads with what seems to be a circle with a vertical bar inside, for markings. also, there is a plastic semi-circular arc with that same marking embossed on it, preceeding the word ZADI. There are 4 words embossed at the ends of the arc, each saying "cut" in the particular language. Suspended below the arc is a recxtangle with ZADI on one side and a 4 numeral number on the other. Are these original keys? What's the arc thing? Is the number the key-code?

    Seat removal

Easy now...... I'd hate to see you make the Norton cry!

    ECU

Ah..... sorry.... I missed the part about this discussion being anchored to full closed-loop control of elite performance engines. Consider my commentary withdrawn.
  19. Didn't work for me. Could switch sides from the Norton to the Honda but couldn't seem to switch patterns. Hot through a highway cloverleaf in third gear, hard over and rolling on the throttle, through 8000 RPM, and neatly snick into .......... second........... SUCKS!!! Turned out WAY easier to switch the 900RR to GP pattern than reverse the Norton. The '86 Lemans was a piece o' cake too. I'm a'feared that I'm just a GP kinda guy!

    ECU

One might also wonder why the whole internal combustion controller industry remains based on O2 sensors... wide-band or not, if they are so valueless, especially if there are some other better source(s) of information. After all, the ECU wouldn't know what the source of the data was, so there's not much room for a "EFI manufacturer's conspiracy" theory there. I might not argue with the assertion that there are "other" sources of real-time "combustion status" data, but I can't see that the whole industry remains captive to erroneous technology. Sub-optimal, perhaps, but wrong?? I can't see it.
  21. Hey... we borrowed a lot of them from y'all down there!! Ooops.... youse guys ain't from sout' o' da Mason-Dixon Line in Iowa, eh?
  22. That'd be great! I don't really see why the flip of the belcrank isn't going to work, but I'd love to see your version!
  23. I'll be taking then camera, but don't hold your breath on Guzzi pics. With a population of only 1M, there is no Guzzi dealership in town. The closest is Red Deer, then Calgary. Ya, ya..... I know............
  24. Home is in the garage.......... we have heaters!! It was -40 C last week, so this is frankly balmy!! The annual Motorcycle Show is this week-end in Edmonton. Forcast -4 to -15 C with freezing rain and snow flurries. Woo Hoo ...... that means it's almost spring!!
  25. Ok, Ok....... so I speak Canadian!
