  1. Welcome back Ben. Congrat's on the nice looking Griso you got there.

If my new-to-me bike leaked as soon as I left the dealer I would expect them to fix it. Especially if they were a Guzzi dealer. Since you'd rather do it yourself you might want to check with the Griso owners on guzzitech or wildguzzi if nobody chimes in here.

they don't work on or know anything about guzzi's which is part of the reason I got such a good deal, I'd rather do it myself the thing also had the tank breather valve on backwards(dummies) I talked with Pete roper and have a good idea what it is, how to fix it and it won't cost me more than $5 HELL YES

  2. Hello V11 people,

Not sure if many of you have modified your rear ends to remove the plastic moulding under the seat, I am interested to find out how you have gone about doing it.. ie tail tidy or home modified

I have attached an image of a lovely example of a clean back end to hopefully start the thread...

    :mg:

Note : this picture has been borrowed from 'WitchCityBallabio' see the pics thread http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5556&st=840

SCREW THAT expensive tail tidy kit, just get a quality black plastic planting bucket and some good shears to clip it to size hold it together with a couple tiny black zip ties out of sight. I believe that WITH those blinkers you see in the photo I spent a whopping $20 and I thought it looked great

  3. So, I finally got a Griso that I've been lusting after for years so I can be just like my mentor and my hero BFG with having a DD750 and a griso except I'm completely different my DD is black and my Griso is red, totally different. ANYWAY joking around aside the story is my dad hasn't been in my life for the last 27 years and he decided he wanted to buy me a motorcycle so we looked at bikes I sent him suggestions and he sent me $6600 for a 2007 Griso which I got for $6470 I got them down from 7k so out the door taxes and fee's came to 7k, Mistral can, tail rack, flyscreen, guzzi tank bag, new tires and looks mint only 10k mi

well just like the relationship with my dad the bike has a problem, after my 40mi ride home from the dealer the left side of the motor is covered in oil, appears to be a low pressure leak and its not the valve covers really appears to be the timing cover (which was starting to seep on my V11 when I sold it, karma I bet) I don't really want to take this bike back I loved the ride, smooth and more refined than the V11 yet still so visceral and mechanical. The thing only has 10k on it and $6500 with great upgrades a small oil leak shouldn't be a big deal right? I see it I only paid $400 for it.

Hopefully I get get some insight from here or call Mr Roper directly, maybe there are better quality gaskets I can use to replace?

I put those paper towels under the bike and it didn't drip all night but the engine is wet with oil on the left side. hard to get a good photo of that.

  4. Ok, not sure if this should go here, or elsewhere, but here is my issue.

I have an 02 V11 Lemans. It is the tightest, most well put together, stable, fun, just feels great, bike I have ever owned. (I'm 50 and have been riding since 5). I have an 09 cali vintage. Good bike but it is light, loose, somewhat unstable, noisy (engine noise, not pipes), just not even in the same ballpark as the Lemans. My wife has an 81 convert, and it is more in personality like the Lemans than the cali vintage.

So here is my issue. I want to get a sport touring bike to get away from my big v-twin tourers (I have a Kawi Voyager now- think HD Ultra classic but bigger).

The Norge- is it going to be like the Lemans, or like the cali vintage?

like the cali but more refined, by far. The thing is a bit of a boat and doesn't like cross winds, the fairings and bags seemed a bit more plasticy and cheap in person than I had hoped. Not the best fit and finish on a guzzi I've seen. There is just something about the V11 I feel it is the pinnacle of their transverse v-twin which is funny because it was done as a retro.

  5. can we go make a movie with it this weekend? I'll try and get Zack on his new Griso 8v and we'll do gopro and more in some curves of your choice?

I could totally be up for that, stupid thing won't have a plate till I get the title from him like wed, but I'll bring the bill of sale and the proof of insurance with me and risk it for how much fun this thing is

I put a helmet on and went to get gas

(notice what sweatshirt I put on)

he also included a nice waterproof bike cover and a massive aprilia banner I can hang in the garage and all the original parts except the exhaust, AF1 has that.

  6. I am literally in the process of buying a 09 Dorsoduro 750 with 7k on the clock upgraded rear shock and front springs/oil, billet levers and covers, a gel seat and akropovic exhaust installed. $6750 but it's in florida and shipping is $450 :(

Hey, at least BFG might find it interesting. I have ridiculous bike ADD when I'm in the market for one. I wouldn't go as far as to say I hated my Duc ST2, what's a stonger word than hate? wouldn't start in the cold, wouldn't want to even cruise in the cold, didn't like the heat, didn't like to stay charged, was a walloy pig at slow speeds and the fairings(and ergo's) even with a laminar lip were no better than the RSVR I had. I got LESS wet in the rain on the RSVR. So I dumped 1k into it and put on 2k miles over a year, I've done worse. I was able to sell it for what I paid for it less the few upgrades and new starter

I will post up some pics when I get it and I've already told myself the next bike needs to be a griso(newer and less problems than BFG's though) I wonder if BFG knew my mom 30 years ago. . .

Just as well you got rid of the Ducati. the engines really are just a pile of shite! I borrowed an ST2 in New Zealand last February, nice handling, fairly comfortable, but after a $1000 tuneup, I was told that the belts could not be changed, the covers couldn't be removed as the nuts inside the plastic were spinning. So after being told to nurse it for next 3 weeks, running 3500-6500rpm, the engine literally physically exploded, yes, the engine cases blew apart!!!! in the middle of nowhere!

Never, NEVER will I EVER buy a belt drive Ducati EVER!!!

BTW, the Aprilia will be a great bike, well done.

    Steve

To be fair to Ducati's any badly maintained belt drive engine is going to let go in a big way eventually !!

It sounds like that particular ST had been seriously mistreated, as the ST2 is basically a 2 valve 851/888 motor it is pretty tough and if maintained correctly reliable.

Yes, maintaning a machine is important. In this case, the belts did not fail. I was pampering the bike because they could not be changed at the time. actually, there was a catastrauphic gearbox failure that blew the engine cases apart, the bike was singing along at 110km in 6th, go figure.

sadly they also sell a case saver because the chains like to let go once in awhile and embed themselves inside the crank case. I would love a 1098 if I made twice as much money as I do now, even if I got the Duc for every man money those tune ups and upgrades are $$$$$ ugh. I'm not a Duc hater just not a fan of the work they need. I just want to ride.

  7. there is a V11 Lemans in black locally,(not a Nero) 10k miles, 2004, I just did a VDST check on it.. $4000. !

guy will trade for a 750 Breva if anyone has interest I can put you in touch.

was that your dorso at the Wheel of Italy yesterday?

    IMG_0453.jpg

nope, I won't get my DD in the mail until next monday-tuesday at this point. I'm very excited, we better get a native american summer this year

  8.

well sure, but for the right price you would sell amiright? well that just means owners love them for more than they are worth monetarily. I didn't want to even really sell mine even if I sounded like I did sometimes I had peer and wife pressure and we were broke at the time it made sense when I did. :/

Well....... you may see that my little picture attached to my posts it is titled 'lucky'. I don't have a lot of wealth by current standards but I really do have pretty much everything I want. If someone offered me a very large amount for my Guzzi, unless it was accompanied by a promise of world peace :drink: I don't think I could be bothered. I've had motorcycles of various types since my teens so what would I want now, MV, another GS another Honda? Why on earth would I want to do that when I know apart from a brief pleasure in the excitement of the new there would be a lasting regret at parting with a motorcycle that is 'right' for me. Fortunate am I that my missus understands and my friends are covetous, and that my health is such that I can still handle 'Red Sonja' respectably. People may think otherwise but I know when I'm on a good thing. :sun: (with apologies to KB)

that's something I realized after the fact of selling mine, I'm basically in a scramble to recapture those emotions and I was spoiled that the RSVR was just as good to me if not a tiny bit better in different ways like a super model but the V11 was good looking AND made you dinner. :bier:

  9. Say Ben, are you already over the 40?

Ben, too bad you didn't like the ST2. I have an ST4s, and I quite like it. It's not such a sharp instrument that it would out-handle an RSVR (having never ridden one), but it does respectably well. And it pulls harder than the V11.... and runs in the cold and the heat. I look at it as a fun diversion, but also I like to run my G5 with a sidecar. For me- that's just a huge grin.

Well ok, it did pull harder than the V11 and less than the RSVR to be expected, for commuting which is 95% of my riding it wasn't the perfect tool for the job, it HATES traffic and I really think part of the temperament of it was the race ECU and pipes it had on it, which are really unnecessary on that type of bike especially the ST2(maybe a ST4). I bet a stock exhaust/ecu bike would have been less headache. I am on my way back to guzzi and I think about them constantly. The only V11 variant I would buy is a Coppa otherwise I want a Griso!!!

I don't know how you guys even put up with me :drink:

  10. ..................I also think it has something to due with their often low value to what the owner feels they are worth, thus making them keepers.....

My feeling Ben, is that it really doesn't worry me what the value is. Within reason I can have pretty much what I want in the 2 wheel arena, it's just that I really like the V11 as my motorcycle.:rolleyes:

  11. people have been talking about the collectability of the V11's and while I agree I also think it has something to due with their often low value to what the owner feels they are worth, thus making them keepers. I'm at the point I wish I still had mine (for reals) and would consider going back if it seemed right but then I would also feel like I'm back tracking and a real loser for selling in the first place so I guess the only one I would buy back is the actual one I sold off, I'll just look at a griso instead :)

  13. Watch, not bike.

I don't know how many of the original 99 or so lucky members who picked up Jen's custom Moto Guzzi watches are still on the board but mine is still being worn proudly.

The strap was showing age from wearing it to work nearly every day so I found one worthy of the watch.

where did you get that strap???? I want it! I like my leather one now but it won't last a lot longer I wear the watch every weekend and whenever I go out. I wanted number 3 but ended up with 33 as I was too late for the low or high numbers.

  14. But on the topic of the Diavel, I think it's a really cool bike. I know a V-Rod owner who is seriously considering it, if he can ever arrange a test ride. For people who want a cruiser that can actually corner and doesn't weigh 900 pounds, the Diavel a very good alternative.

the service upkeep and special parts would be ghastly expensive, but if he's coming from a harley he won't even notice a difference really.

  15. Maybe you should post this procedure on the internet.

    :rolleyes::D:lol:

pictures would be handy and a Google map, just for interest

Sorry BFG I'm afraid your new Griso is probably MUCH harder to steal than your Scura!

his experience plus another local guy is whats keeping me off the griso path, sooner jump back on a V11, maybe look and hope I find the one I sold some day. Glad you got the bike back (mostly)safe

  16. then just when I have the right one picked out I go and buy the completely wrong bike anyway(ST2), I don't even know whats wrong with me smack.gif. Most go with passion, looks, or price those are only secondary to me to advice from people I feel I can trust and know much more than I do.

Years ago, I went out with intentions to buy a BMW RT

Instead, I came home with an Aprilia RSV Mille :blush:

that is exactly what happened to me except I went out to buy a Triumph Sprint ST and brought home a Guzzi V11 sport naked instead.
