  1. I am riding THIS actually,

I bought it the DAY before it snowed and only have about 50mi on it so far got it for a song $3k and already an extra $1k into the damn thing for upgrades and personalizations, I have problems. I have always had that urge to own a duc, now that the urge has been fulfilled I don't think I'll ever need another Ducati what a effin money pit they are. Going to meet the Manic salamander guy in person tomorrow at Bob's Java in uptown(Mpls) and he's going to fit some throttle lock weights on it for me, he is bringing the regular and pounders just to see which fit and look best.

I miss my RSVR like nothing else, too bad I'll probably get a KTM before I get back to aprilia, oh I will be back though, such a solid built machine and felt like it was made with my body type in mind. I rode it to the UP MI from MPLS which was just over 7 hours each way, 850mi in 2 days non stop but for fuel. I worry I couldn't go half that far on this Duc.

I got a new helmet too, so far love it, granted not many miles on it yet.

and I got this tank bag, its awesome

Next summer I'm either going to get a Griso 1100, KTM Super Duke or a Aprilia Tuono for a town bike and probably keep the ST for longer rides with the luggage options.

I'm still here, Might be back to guzzi someday soon. I regret the hell out of selling my goose but I feel that once a guzzista, always at least a little bit of one.

  2. I was going to ask if you liked riding the Duck but I guess the jury is still out. I would like to have that exact bike myself..if if was reasonably comfortable. We all know what the service costs are on the things if you hire it done, they should give you a bottle of wine and some ky jelly before they hand you the bill! lol

I'll let you know as soon as I get the starter wires and battery upgraded to an odyssey so it doesn't almost leave me stranded down the road at the gas station after I fuel up. headbang.gif

I moved my extreme thread jacking elsewhere.

  4. HOW the HELL does it have 57k on it with orange needles? I parked mine in the garage all the time and my needles were white with an orange hue. I bet he redid those as well the whole bike has a TON of money sunk into it. NOTTTTTT as much as Jaap's, you could buy a small house with that bikes bottom line.

  5. Borrani rims are not cheap <_>

I was in summer 10 days in Alps two up and loaded, and the bike was much fun.

Good brakes, torque, comfortable, easy to live with.

Screen aerodynamic is good up to 120- 140km, cases have no handles, cannot be easily removed,so you need soft bags.

Naaahhhh, just get bag inserts, work like a champ its like duffel bags that fit right inside open them and yank out your contents with handles.

  6. cheap steel rims w/tubes... fuel pump hose comes off inside tank... needs after market shocks... My friend Ryan had one w/a bad ECU, he had to take back to dealer about 6 times (dealer was a jerk,, said they all run like that) Finally Piagio stepped up and completely replaced it w/a new Vintage, here he is..

That be 35 dub going into minne napolis. Would love one of those but they do look a bit cramped in the legs for my 6'3" frame.

  7.

that viper is hideous but I'd still give my left testicle to get a MGS-01

Why would anyone want your left testicle? :P

why do you think I can't get one!!!

  8. Ah yes. Sports!

    (Cough!) :D

    Pete

god damn pete that is funny, You remind me of knurl sometimes too, I swear your brothers but he is the aprilia knowitall.

Yeah, that is funny. It would be funnier if the Buell I sold (with a Sportster engine) to buy my Griso wouldn't eat my Griso for lunch in every category related to "Sport".

Wish I had kept that bike.

At least my Daytona is an improvement over the Griso (???? that doesn't make sense....)

do be fair we're talking about a harley sportster here not a buell and not some tarted up track sportster, the standard 883 sporster is the biggest dog and farthest from anything called "sport" I have ever seen. Could possibly be smoked at a light by a scooter

  9. I have actually contacted those guys about a month or two ago. They sent me the answer and in my opinion the engine is way overpriced. BB1 engine would run me 10000 Euros plus my engine. I also would have to get a radiator and a different ECU. So, if one would undertake such a project the bike would end up costing around $20000 which in the category of Bimotas. Since I wanted something unique and different I just bought myself 2008 BMW HP2 Sport. I wish MG would have made MGS01.

I did not realize it was THAT high you could get a used RSVR and a 1098 AND still have money left over for upgrades both of which would destroy the big bore.

  10. Well they have sold at least one. There is some Finish geezer who posts up on a host of boards saying how wonderful and fantastic it is. Personally I'd expect to go through clutches and driveline components like a speedfreak necking little blue pills but what would I know? Personally I think it is a hideously ugly, overweight, under-engineered shitheap. Did I mention that it's ugly. Oh, yes, it's ugly too. The Finish bloke says that to look really good it has to be covered in chrome. Hmmm. Uglier still. Brilliant.

I'm nore than happy with my 8VG. If I wanted something with 135 RWBHP I'd go and buy an RSV-4. It would not only do everything a zillion times better than that great chunk-O-munt but it would look drop-dead gorgeous too!!!!!!

    Pete

    Linky http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,58450.0.html

well said pete or for the cost of the upgrade alone I'd get a used RSVR, so going to get back on one of those after I'm done with this duc

  11. i missed the start of this thread, why did you sell your guzzi?

Good luck with the Ducati. It's a lot of bike for what you paid, but your best plan (which I know you are not going to follow) is leave it alone and just ride it. I had a Monster before the Rosso, and it was a nice, pretty bike, but for all the hype it had half the soul of my Guzzi. The Ducati forums are pathetic; the Monster forum spent 90% of their space bragging or arguing about a frickin' aftermarket clutch cover - worse posers than a lot of Harley guys.

I regret selling my guzzi but I had her for 7 years and completely transformed her I felt I needed to focus on a single bike and pay off my debt as much as I could, then I had the accident and went to no bikes :(

I will also take your advice the stuff I want isn't sooo much bling as comfort I want to get adjustable levers throttle meiser heavy barends with cruise control new squishier gel grips a keyless gas cap because its kind of a PITA to take the key out with gloves on not to mention the cap is a bit stiff on the turn and I never understood why it needs to be locked anyway, also a new screen as this stock one has a piece broken off the corner and a last but not least a new clutch slave to save my damn hand when riding it the pull is quite a bit more than the aprilia or even the guzzi and that is it. I plan to fund most of that by selling most of the stuff I have left over from my aprilia and slowly getting it off ebay over the winter, After that achomplished I might try the quiet clutch mod but not a fancy pressure plate or vented cover that servers no purpose and proceed to ride the wheels off.

I also highly agree on the forums which is a smallish part why I got the aprilia over the 1098 when I was shopping back in 07 and had money.

  12. LOL.

Welcome to the internet, I guess.

Yeah, Ducatisti can take themselves kind of serious.

Question 99% of what you read...there or here or anywhere.

One thing everyone agrees on- getting all that stupid plastic off is a serious PIA.

I don't even pretend to understand the battery placement. That was put in by a demented-asylum-engineer-escapee. When I get home to St. Louis, I'm going to start looking for a new place to put a bigger battery. I might not be successful, but I'll try, COG be damned.

    I'll keep you posted Ben.

    J

PS- the Sargent seat is really comfy. I can't say about any other.

SO far I love the cayon close corbin it has on it, appears to already be broken in a bit for me which is nice as I had a corbin on my V11 sport for about a week and said ENOUGH, if you seriously find a nice place for the battery, document your work and I'll do my best to copy it, hell even the battery connections are shite and should be replaced if they haven't. Mine does have a fancy volt meter added right to the dash which is nice

  13. well how many different damn clutch cover and pressure plates do you fricken need, some of them spend more time on color coordinating their bikes then riding them regardless of model, I won't lie I like bling but I like to ride more than that.

What really irked me was I said I don't get why I have to take the dash apart and the mirrors off to get at the battery thats in the side fairing, and every bike I've owned had it under the seat, I swear I could hear the one guy scoff as he posted it would throw off the COG, ... COG? like having it off to one side is way better and its the size of a ham sammich.
