  1. I'd heard Sweden was "nuthin but trees"

Can you provide a route map?

Yeh, I suppose you are right about the trees but the gentle undulations, twists and turns on a good surface make for great fun. The rides were all local but spirited. The bikes my Highland and a Factory Tuono on the tar and my Highland and a fat GS on the dirt roads. My Guzzi was back at home so I thought details not appropriate.

  2. Hey, Jaap: can you block this Wenzi110 'bot? It's spamming all over the place, & I keep stepping in it... I'm going to have to buy new shoes if this keeps up! ;)

Jaap is away in NI so jrt or another moderator could pick it up.

and Wenzi110 - could you post somewhere you are wanted please, not here <_>

  3. A good ride out in the Yorkshire Dales today - Nidderdale, Masham, Middleham, Coverdale, Wharfedale, Wensleydale and on to Sedbergh and the rain. Jaap and two Johns

  4. Last I heard (admittedly some time ago) carts hold the ultimate lap records _everywhere_.

If that's the case the Atom is a total Lard Ass - needs at least 1bhp per kg for some proper speed.

  5. Jeremy Clarkson is extremely anti-bike.

For me the whole issue of top speed, acceleration, corner speed etc are less important than the way a bike makes me feel. But that's just me.

It was good to fun to see Clarkson tempted in his Vietnam bike ride - he actually enjoyed it for a time. However he is a twat but losts of people like him so sadly he is influencial. :bbblll:

If you do need to see a bike putting it over on 4 wheels I did post a super motard 450 Yam versus a Subaru Impretsa rally car some time back. Great fun! ;)

The motorcycle will always do it for me anyway :bike::race:

  6. anyone want to blow this out of the water....the mis-truths?

    Like why a 600 instead of a 1098/1198?

why the 600 can't seem to brake well on the 1st corner?

any comments on how the driver with the Simpson helmet is running off the tarmac onto the grass?

Time to face it mate, the car will be quicker - on the track. I really don't think a litre bike will make any difference.

If I remember correctly even go carts were faster on the track than GP bikes. <_>

The difference is in the bike's favour on the highway, away from the lights and through traffic. And of course a bike is always cool :rasta:

  7. mmmm... This trip is getting better and better! Thanks for all the input! Still open for suggestions of course.

Orson, thanks for the pics! :P:

John, if you would like to join me, that'd be great! :race:

And from what I read, this won't be my last trip to the British isles!

And BFG, I also predict a few days in (N) Ireland in the future.

Don't know how you will fit it all in. Could meet you at Elvington at the Air Museum and ride with you from then on. There are lots of alternatives for roads, countryside, food and places of interest and no big towns. Just state you preferences or leave it to me, no problem. :o

  8. Sunday evening 18th of May I'll be arriving in Harwich. So Monday morning I start my tour through England to end up at Ken Bridge Hotel on Thursday evening.

What I'm looking for are nice roads, points of interest, nice B&B's along the way. I was hoping that the English forum dwellers could help me a bit.

Here's my global itinerary (of course open for changes!) based on a Michelin map:

    ---------------------------------

    Wednesday

Kingston Upon Hill - York - Ripon - Yorkshire Dales - Kendal - Lake District - Keswick

    Jaap

    Jaap,

Should you wish, I would be delighted to be a guide on the York to the Lake district section - local knowledge can be useful. I would also like Guy be pleased to offer you a room but my place is in North Leeds. Sadly no garage space overnight (stuffed with my toys) but I have a cover and a fairly secure yard.

  9. Oh no, not at all. Its the same nonsense as so many other threads. Just remember the "riding height adjusting" fights here. The V11 engine is mounted 5mm out of the centerline, the rear drive is hanging heavily to the same side - and you really think it makes sense to mount the rear wheel basically with the help of a micrometer? Most of us are approaching their late 40ies and have problems to stand or sit upright longer than 30 minutes, but our rear wheels must be centered with zero tolerance?

Zero tolerance to what? Have you or others ever thought of checking the front wheel spacer for instance? What if this part is out of tolerance? Will your bike behave better if you adjust the rear swing arm to a misaligned front wheel? Can you compensate this by putting your house keys in your other pocket? What if your left mirror has a different angle, size or surface than the right one? Man, these are questions really waiting for answers.

Let this thread get closed. You can open you a similar one in under two minutes :P

    Hubert

If I didn't read all this stuff Hubert, I wouldn't have known that instead of being the delight and pride of my life, my Guzzi is a heap of poorly assembled, badly maintained and haphazardly adjusted shit. Thanks Guys :D

  10. When nothing else can swell, you latch onto your tank . . . er so enquiring minds . . . swell . . .

So how much more fuel do these 'swelling' tanks contain? Do they fetch a premium from the Iron Butt crowd? How long will I have to wait until my tank has significantly increased in value?

    Expanding minds ........ :D

  11. Over on this side o' the pond, we have an entire "subculture" of Motor Davidson Harley Cycle types in various stages of chronic arrested development, who like to advertize that their ol' ladies (to use that term in it's loosest possible meaning) can "suck start" their Big Twins. :o

I have a bit of a dilemma here ratchethack - curiosity makes me want to know more, but I really don't think I should.

A bit like ordering the Mega Donner Kebab with extra chilli sauce after a few beers, delicious till half way through, then progressively worse until you really regret eating the damn thing the following morning. :P

Think I'll leave the hand starting of the Guzzi to others

  12. At 62.5 cc displacement per cylinder, far easier to "hand start" the V8 than overcoming the compression of 532 cc per cylinder of the V11. :P

Maybe that is the next big challenge :D

There must be a method, over tighten one valve clearance, roll back onto compression, retard ignition with Myecu, couple of brawny lads either side applying spin with no fear, 'et voila!!!' the Guzzi rumble. :P
