Slowpoke, sorry to read that you have such a downer on V11's. As others have said, you should be able to clean up the fuel injection for very little cost. There's lots of help available on here.
Ref Buells - I've only had a short test ride on the XB model but was very impressed with the handling and low-down torque. If you want a bike for back road thrills then a Buell XB is up there with the best. Quality and design has improved over the years and the XB range is generally reliable.
I my S1 and V11, they both have that certain something you won't find anywhere else.

Also replacing the CARC unit's must be very pricey as they've sold a LOT of Brevas and not a few Grisos now...
An Italian source on the Anima Guzzista forum has indicated that 2,645 CARC units are to be replaced worldwide. So.....if the unit cost is £250, and that's a conservative estimate, that would cost Guzzi in the order of £661,250.00 .....
I wonder how much cheaper the suspect bearings were compared to the likes of SKF?
-
Muppets, now you're talking my kinda language . My hero is Beaker - I've always regarded him as a typical Guzzi owner....
-
A recall has now been issued for this problem. The whole CARC transmission box is being replaced. The dealer recall notice 1.1mb PDF is here http://www.guzzitech.com/MGGriso/Files/Bre...Brng-Recall.pdf
I'm getting used to recalls ........the Buell had 9, the V11 had 2 and now the Breva

It's all about usability - that's why Guzzi's and Buell's float my boat. I've never wanted to rush out and buy the latest hot poop Japanese missle, but, just in the back of my mind.......190 BHP 113 FT/LB on the road........what would that be like?
-
What 190+ BHP (with ram air ) and 113 FT/LB would be like? After years of riding bikes that struggle to produce 90 BHP I find myself being rather curious...
-
Thanks for the responses - much appreciated .

My original 1999 battery has finally died and I'm looking for a replacement. What are you guys using?
Shopping around, the alternatives are:
Westco YTX15L-BS @ £69
Varley Red Top 20 @ £90
Hawker Genesis G13 @ £98
Genuine Guzzi part number 01 70 45 01 @ £120

For all you Guzzi sports bikes fans -
Details on the Anima Guzzista web site.
Apologies if it's been shown before
-
Thanks for that Todd .
This is what I like about v11lemans.com - there's plenty of Breva 1100 information ....
-
I've moved from concerned mode to perplexed mode after reading the above and may shortly move into full-on 'frenzy' mode . I need a big hug and reassurance ......
If the mighty BMW have problems with a similar type of design what chance do the not-so-mighty Moto Guzzi have
Do BMW use SKF in their drive units?
I may follow Pete's/Todd's lead and have the cheap 'East European' bearing changed to a quality SKF unit, even though I've no problems at the moment. I can buy bearings at trade through my company so the SKF 61917 would cost me £65.00 + £11.38 tax = £76.38 (approx $140USD). A small(ish) price to pay for peace of mind.
Todd - what is the part number of the Viton oil seal please.
-
Well put mdude, I couldn't agree more with your sentiments .
As the proud owner of one of these new fandangled Breva's (yes, with the funny headlight ) I'm concerned that reports of a 'minor' problem have arisen but certainly not in a frenzy about it. If I have a problem it'll be sorted under warranty.
After owning a V11 for just over 6 years I bought a new Guzzi with eyes firmly wide open. I still love them and wouldn't buy anything else .

Due to the high level of interest in this event (not on here admittedly ) I've produced a fact sheet about the festival which I'm posting/e-mailing to people who wish to attend. Please let me know if you want a copy.
We're organising camping on the Friday night, 21st July, at a pub approx. 15 miles from the Aviation Centre. The cost is £5.50 per tent. I need some idea of the numbers - please let me know if you're interested.
-
No problems with my August '05 Breva after 5,300 miles - fingers crossed!
-
-
Our tickets arrived this morning and it looks as though we'll both be able to get Friday 28th off work. Traquair House sure looks a nice place.
-
My Buell has covered 21,000 miles with the original drive belt - and it's ridden in a most un-Harley kinda way ......
-
another thing to think of is if you change it to an skf yourself, and then it goes to shit due to poor design/insufficient splash lubrication, or whatever, and the rear drive sustains collateral damage, MG may not warranty it. I say let sleeping dogs lie,and if it aint broke, dont fix it!
Good advice Rick .
If this bearing does go belly-up on my Breva I'll let Guzzi pick up the tab under the 2-year warranty - which expires 27th August 2007. If its going to show any signs of premature wear, surely it'll have happened by then.
-
Thanks Antonio, another event I'd love to attend but can't .
Wouldn't it be great if I could just ride across to Holland in early April and return in October having visited all these events..
-
Thanks for a thorough explanation Pete. I've been following this topic since noticing your first post on Todd's MG-Griso forum but haven't been unduly worried by it. Considering my Breva's done 8,500 km without any problems, I reckon it's pretty much OK.
It did occur to me that having the bearing changed to SKF (or similar) for peace of mind would be worthwhile - even if it means paying for it myself and not under warranty. I'd hate to have a problem miles from home .
-
Pete - at what mileage have the few failures occurred? My Breva has done 5,300 miles and the back wheel/CARC drive unit seems fine. BTW the bike is a '1st Series' model bought in August 2005.
-
I'd love to go to the Motogiro D'Italia and all the other Guzzi/Italian related European events like the Trofeo Rosso but little things like having to work for a living keep getting in the way ..........
have you ridden a Buell?

Yes, met the great man himself June 2005 @ Silverstone race circuit. He's just a regular bike nut and great to talk to - not corporate at all.
Gives me an excuse to post this picture of Erik with my S1
