  1. Have you ever met Erik? Something to keep in mind; he's not a large man. Ex-racer, & built like one: medium ht. & wiry build. That might have something to do with his design choices, hmm...

Yes, met the great man himself :notworthy: June 2005 @ Silverstone race circuit. He's just a regular bike nut and great to talk to - not corporate at all.

Gives me an excuse to post this picture of Erik with my S1

  2. Slowpoke, sorry to read that you have such a downer on V11's. As others have said, you should be able to clean up the fuel injection for very little cost. There's lots of help available on here.

Ref Buells - I've only had a short test ride on the XB model but was very impressed with the handling and low-down torque. If you want a bike for back road thrills then a Buell XB is up there with the best. Quality and design has improved over the years and the XB range is generally reliable.

I  my S1 and V11, they both have that certain something you won't find anywhere else.

  3. I've posted this on behalf of Chris Wilson who's recently bought a Buell and wishes to sell his immaculate V11:

  4. Also replacing the CARC unit's must be very pricey as they've sold a LOT of Brevas and not a few Grisos now...

An Italian source on the Anima Guzzista forum has indicated that 2,645 CARC units are to be replaced worldwide. So.....if the unit cost is £250, and that's a conservative estimate, that would cost Guzzi in the order of £661,250.00 :o.....

I wonder how much cheaper the suspect bearings were compared to the likes of SKF?

  5. My original 1999 battery has finally died and I'm looking for a replacement. What are you guys using?

    Shopping around, the alternatives are:

    Westco YTX15L-BS @ £69

    Varley Red Top 20 @ £90

    Hawker Genesis G13 @ £98

    Genuine Guzzi part number 01 70 45 01 @ £120

  6. Check BMW on the bearing as well.

    $147 USD retail in the US. 33-12-1-468-899,SKF 61917 C3.

Seal, double lip directional viton, 85x110x10/9.5 (factory seal is 85x110x8)

    Thanks for that Todd :notworthy:.

This is what I like about v11lemans.com - there's plenty of Breva 1100 information ....

  7. I've moved from concerned mode to perplexed mode after reading the above and may shortly move into full-on 'frenzy' mode :P. I need a big hug and reassurance :(......

If the mighty BMW have problems with a similar type of design what chance do the not-so-mighty Moto Guzzi have :huh2:

Do BMW use SKF in their drive units?

I may follow Pete's/Todd's lead and have the cheap 'East European' bearing changed to a quality SKF unit, even though I've no problems at the moment. I can buy bearings at trade through my company so the SKF 61917 would cost me £65.00 + £11.38 tax = £76.38 (approx $140USD). A small(ish) price to pay for peace of mind.

Todd - what is the part number of the Viton oil seal please.

  8. Well put mdude, I couldn't agree more with your sentiments .

As the proud owner of one of these new fandangled Breva's (yes, with the funny headlight :P) I'm concerned that reports of a 'minor' problem have arisen but certainly not in a frenzy about it. If I have a problem it'll be sorted under warranty.

After owning a V11 for just over 6 years I bought a new Guzzi with eyes firmly wide open. I still love them and wouldn't buy anything else :mg:.

  9. Due to the high level of interest in this event (not on here admittedly :( ) I've produced a fact sheet about the festival which I'm posting/e-mailing to people who wish to attend. Please let me know if you want a copy.

We're organising camping on the Friday night, 21st July, at a pub approx. 15 miles from the Aviation Centre. The cost is £5.50 per tent. I need some idea of the numbers - please let me know if you're interested.

  10. I'm interested to know what mileage you have done on a single belt. as i have been told from 5000 to 100000. i guess this is down to different riders and conditions  :huh2:  cheers gazza

My Buell has covered 21,000 miles with the original drive belt - and it's ridden in a most un-Harley kinda way :D......

  11. another thing to think of is if you change it to an skf yourself, and then it goes to shit due to poor design/insufficient splash lubrication, or whatever, and the rear drive sustains collateral damage, MG may not warranty it. I say let sleeping dogs lie,and if it aint broke, dont fix it! :bike:  :D

    Good advice Rick .

If this bearing does go belly-up on my Breva I'll let Guzzi pick up the tab under the 2-year warranty - which expires 27th August 2007. If its going to show any signs of premature wear, surely it'll have happened by then.

  12. Thanks for a thorough explanation Pete. I've been following this topic since noticing your first post on Todd's MG-Griso forum but haven't been unduly worried by it. Considering my Breva's done 8,500 km without any problems, I reckon it's pretty much OK.

It did occur to me that having the bearing changed to SKF (or similar) for peace of mind would be worthwhile - even if it means paying for it myself and not under warranty. I'd hate to have a problem miles from home :(.
