  1. If the alternator has an internal rectifier! Otherwise it will put out AC by design. :P

    Just f'in with ya Brent.

    Cheers,

    Steve

After hearing what you said about the 16v output you should take the alternator to a rebuilder. Have them to repair it and you'll be "good to go". The disconnecting of the wiring and battery is just a coincidence!

  2. The charging warning light (car - Land Rover) normally comes on when revs are very low and output drops. Today I've had peculiar opposite behaviour. The first thing was that the warning light lit when the ignition was turned off and even when the key was removed! Now that's not happening, but the strange thing is that the light stays off at low revs and then glows brighter as revs increase and stays lit while driving. What's happening?

With thr ignition "on", this charge light signifies a "difference in potential" either under/over charging. When you have proper charging taking place the light is out, when the vehicle is not properly charging the light is on. Your particular problem that is taking place could be a blown fuse, wiring problem, or alternator/regulator problem. the cheapest is to visually inspect the fuses, wiring ,etc.. If that is good, take the alternator to a rebuilder for testing and repairs. HTH!

  3. Yeah, I hear ya. However, what I'd be happy with isn't ultra-fast and ultra-light, rather just something on par with the BMW R1200S, and that's a bike that Guzzi can build from the parts bin. Re-engineer the MGS-01 chassis for mass production or just come up with a lighter frame and drive than the griso setup, and use the new 8v. Done.

470 lbs, 110 hp at the wheel.

    I'd be happy.

When I first stared seeing pics of the MGS-01.WOW!!!!!!! I thought this was the MESSIAH ! Then......any man who was lucky enough to get one and make it streetable I will envy him for all time. Will MG ever puyt a bike like this back on the showroom, who knows?

  4. I don't know the answer to this, other than there are no riders I know of who ride at night without lights. There may be, but probably they are so few that they'd hardly show up in any statistics. OTOH, from what I've read and noticed, we tend to see cops very well. In this country at least, they haven't been at all very conspicuous, if you think of how they're dressed. However, IMO they stand out, as they embody the threat of getting pulled over and ticketed. David Hough had a story about an "unofficial" test about conspicuity, including the "cop look", which ended up being the most conspicuous. And I think white, brown or dark Crown Victorias are more conspicuous than yellow Fords.

Also, re: visibility, there have been points being made about the connection between hi-viz/modulators/hi beam, and target fixation. Until a serious, unbiased and complete study is made, hard to know. In the meantime, I guess we all know the bottom line, which is that we're invisible--if they're not already out to get us.

Until motorcycles are 5" wide and at least 3 1/2" tall you are f****d ! plain and simple. I have had drivers pull out in front of me 3xs in 30 min. My brother-in-law gave me the best advice. RIDE AS THOUGH YOU ARE INVISIBLE ! I ride like there is a "hit" on me at all times. until things with more than 4 wheels are outlawed you are unsafe.

With this fear staring me in the face I try to have fun!!

  5. Is it just me, or does it have the stance a lady lifting the hem of her ballgown to step over a puddle?

    KB :sun:

I think you masturbate in front of your computer TOO much!

  6. I have a centerstand, which makes checking the oil level easy and accurate. Then again, I have a pressure gauge, so I rarely bother to check the oil level. I have never had to add oil between changes anyway.

The automotive term for this plate Mr.Roper is making is a "windage tray". Anyone who uses this does so for a number of reasons. The highly modified trays are made so they just miss the arc of the c/shaft and rod. This purpose is to catch the oil spray from the clearances of rotating parts. The theory is to cut down on the effort of the crank traveling through a rain of oil. The next reason is to act as a baffle in the crankcase to slow down the sloshing of oil through turns, stops , etc. These are theories at worst. I figure if high performance engines have them you can too. You want the best and you are going to have it. Isn't that the reason you have a V11.

p.s. People pay BIG $$$ for carbon fiber slip-ons because they are visible.Installing this is "your little secret".

  7. Maybe you were a Grand Funk Railroad fan?

Grand Funk--Live Album....absolutely..Lots of feedback along with Mach 2 rock and roll. I have 2 of these cds along with the original vinyl.I bought the "Tribute to Bosnia" cd (a live album). Some things are better left to memory.....Mark,Don and Mel can't duplicate that speed at AARP age. "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" is the ONLY song that was released to airplay I would claim to be GFR.

  8. Absolutely!

My '69 (recorded) album was the Stones' Get Yer Ya Yas Out

    still one of their best.

See here for a top 10 best live rock recordings list, just for interest's sake.

No1 = Allmans at Fillmore East

    Yep, a treasured gatefold

I looked through this thread all this time to find this Allman Bros lp . Probably the most perfect noise of all time!

    Also...The Who-Live at Leeds...(extended version) if it's too loud you're too old.

And J Geils Band-Full House / Lou Reed-Rock - Roll Animal....You would have to hear them 48 straight hours to fully appreciate.

  9. My previously perfect, pristine low mileage now crashed 02 Lemans is soon to be released as evidence. everything but the front end and front plastic is good to go. Any suggestions on how I should carve it up? ie, what should go with the motor, etc. Do I include the F/I with the motor, do I include the PCIII with the ECU, should I sell the bevel box with other bits? I have a few folks that have asked for bits, but I dont want to tear it apart farther than necessary or cause folks problems if they need entire systems. Any feedback is appreciated. Sorry if this is mis-posted and should be in the for sale column.

    Thanks for your time
