  1. Yes, you can run without it. Many here have binned it completely. If your old one is a Bitubo - throw it away. They're garbage and you don't need to spend $ repairing garbage. I ran without mine when it started leaking and had no problems. I put on a Hyperpro damper and it transformed the bike. Not cheap but boy is the bike ever smooth now!

    cheers

What do you mean "bin" the steering damper? Please define the word"bin".

  2. Can you push fluid backward through the clutch master cylinder? With such few miles I would think there is trash in the piston bore or in the check valve portion of the piston.Anything can hold this back from working and give you fits. If you are afraid to disassemble this I will be glad to help. Also please keep ypur posts together and not on two or three different places.

  3. What is your favorite GPS unit? I want one for me to use on two wheels and for my daughter when she is travelling on four wheels. After looking around I find there are TOO many to choose from!

  4. #1 Why do you think you need the clutch bled? These things just don"t get air bubbles.

#2 If you want to bleed this, remove the rear wheel. attach a clear hose to the bleeder screw then to submerge the other end in a half full vial of brake fluid to watch for air bubbles to come out.You can gravity bleed this or pressure bleed. Remember to use DOT fluid on all containers.

  5. I do NOT want to take business from MotoInternational. There is a place Lindertech in Indianapolis, Ind. They test,flow-rate,clean and rebuild fuel injectors. You can send the injectors to them and they will test the injectors for you. They will recommend what step to take after that!

  6. If this bike has a PowerComander or any other device installed between the factory wiring harness and the computer, disconnect it and hook it up witthout the "PowerCommander". If it performs perfectly, you need to have the PowerCommander "remapped" ! It is best to have a PowerCommander facility to do this or someone who REALLY knows what they're doing !

  7. I just scored a Roper knock-off, but I must say its a beautifully machined piece of stainless. Now, where's the best source for the requisite gaskets that will be involved and how much oil should I run in the sump?

Marsh Motorcycle is probably the closest 860-623-7795

  8. Finally got round to tackling greasing the front uj. Turns out it's easy if you have the right attachment on your grease gun. All you have to do is:

    (1) Put bike on side stand. Stand back and admire it. Say nice things to it - it's much more likely to let you get access to its grease nipples that way....

    (2) Reach over the top of the guard covering the uj from the front, and you will be able to feel the back end of the uj with your fingers. Feel around for the grease nipple - if you can't find it, move the bike slightly forwards or back to rotate the uj. The idea is to get the grease nipple sticking up vertically into the oval tunnel in the swing-arm.

    (3) Push the grease gun attachment through the swing-arm tunnel from the back, and guide it onto the grease nipple using your fingers from front. You will know when it's gone on, as it clicks into place.

    (4) Pump away.

    (5) That's it - no dismantling at all, and you can do it with the bike on its side-stand.

Of course there's a catch - you have to have the right attachment for your grease gun - it has to have an angle of about 55 degrees as close to the connector as possible, to clear the swing-arm tunnel. A flexible attachment won't do it (I tried), and I don't think a 45 degree attachment will do it either. But the solution's simple - make you own 55 degree attachment. I just took a standard straight attachment, heated it red hot in the fire and bent it. Here's a pic:

And here's another of it on the grease nipple: You can see I've also included a length of flexible hose between the grease gun and my 55 degree fitting, so that the body of the gun doesn't get tangled up with the swing-arm.

Wheel is still on ! ?

  9. 2000

bought in 2006 with 3200 miles

    10550 miles now.

I have replaced the rear tire, removed the airbox, relocated the fuel pump and filter, set up the TPS, made a new taillight/license plate bracket, and had the gearbox recall done.

I will be changing relays, setting up the suspension, swapping in a brass temp. sensor fitting, and possibly installing headlight relays in the bucket in the near future.

You say you relocated the fuel pump and filter. What did you do? where did you move them to?

  10. I thought my 6 year old battery died of old age....

    Then I lost low beam

Then I lost high beam on the new headlight within 10 miles..

Checked the battery 12.6v. off.... 13.56 @ 2K rpm w/ the working low beam

Then at 2K rpm on the blown high beam....showing 17V !!

Guess I better get on the search board and find out how to check my

charging sys....anyone want to point me in the right direction?

I know...the blown fuse thread...... :vomit:^_^ All those watts

    and volts make me dizzzy

it's the voltage regulator. The alternator produces the voltage and the regulator controls the amount of output going to the battery.
