  1. Tough times deserve tough measures.
  2. I've got the brake line like that as well but the clutch isn't moving. Where did you re-route it to? And thank you!
  3. What....NOBODY has a clue? As many times as you lot have rooted around under your tanks, no one wants to toss the old man a bone!? What the hell..am I on a Harley site?
  4. I know the answer will vary from machine to machine but is there typically any slack to be found in the clutch line where it routes under the tank? I'm trying to mount LSL Spiegler Fat Bars and besides having to machine .165" thick spacers for under the risers to allow the bars to clear the top of the fork adjusters I need a lousy 2" more in the clutch line to fit up. The brake line easily routed up behind the fork leg so no problem there. This is really giving me a case of blue balls as I've got like a half hour at a time each day to work on it and I'm not riding!!
  5. ...the one in the end of the bar. Tightened in there for all eternity so I need to break out the impact gun. BEFORE I screw something up ("Oh, ya just turn it upside down & it falls out!") left or right thread? I'm assuming right hand but I've been a right boob all week and I'm on the edge......
  6. I coughed. Well...cleared my throat. Gave what I could in complete appreciation.
  7. I was last in SF 42 years ago and, even then, much of what was sexy was a fake. I'm just sayin'.
  8. Thank you Obviously my grandson screwing around again. Yeah...that's it.
  9. Did the site just change or did I do something to change the way I see it? When I click on a topic I see the first post then all the responses are lined up in a ladder array and you have to click each one to read the response.
  10. Yes, that, thank you. So essentially the frame is a large puke can then? And what the hell just happened to the threads?
  11. Anyone have an illustration or schematic of the breather system?
  12. Let's establish one immutable fact here. Tall people suck. But we know that already, eh Sean? Anyway, you've got me by 2 inches there "Stretch" so I don't want to hear whingin' about flat-footing or any other such nonsense. I haven't flat-footed a motorcycle since a 1988 Superglide and it really isn't all that much bother IF you're a resourceful, cunning lad. Don't nose in at parking spaces unless you can pull it back yourself. Make sure your stops at lights and stop signs are decisive. Glide up to the stop then brakes full on & get a foot down. Usually make sure it's your left in the US...don't want to put a foot in the gutter........don't ask. And it's all about riding, not standing over the thing so... But I sympathize with your plight and I've been trying to come up with some solutions myself. Other than lowering the subframe there's not much to do I'm afraid that won't ruin the handling. I'll be having a look at the subframe myself but I don't want to screw the aesthetics up either. For now, just know that there are gray, old, furry trolls riding these things who are shorter than you.
  13. Every Ohlins I've had came with seperate ride height adjustment, independent of the stroke length. Damn well should for what they charge, eh?
  14. There's a few operations I won't tackle either, but I'm a fair hand at welding as well so if I screw it up I can just fry it back right! Arthritis and bad eyes are taking the rest away but since I'm just doing my own work I've got great customers
  15. So since the fork caps are single lead thread the thing was screwed up from the setup then. Dodgy. They can go in any way I chose I reckon.
  16. I was heading that way 40 years ago after the Navy but sort of drifted away as it were, no pun. Now I've a fairly complete home shop (strictly manual) and absolutely love making as much swarf as I can find time for but no, I don't make a living in the trade. Wish I had the head for CNC as more reasonably priced equipment becomes available but programming skill just avoids me. How about you folks, anyone machining enough to piss the wife off?
  17. Another technique for teaching yourself the "feel" of feeler gages is to..GENTLY..use a micrometer to measure the feeler gages in question. With the mic gently stopped down on the gage, say your favorite .004", it should not pull out if you are using the correct force. Now back off by .0025" or until the gage just slips out and you'll be experiencing what the home tuner should expect as damn close accuracy.
  18. Yes, thanks Rich and others. I didn't mean to imply that I'm inept. I'm well aware of the whys & wherefores of suspension but that's not the point. I should explain I bought this from a bike shop owner and I'm appalled at his lack of concern for detail. One tube is higher than the other, why would anyone conciously spin both tubes around so the lettering is upside down (upside down forks...of course!) the rear fender was cut off with a Stihl 025 and other little niggles & burps. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a protectionist at all. Cut the damn motorcycle in half if that pleases...but de-burr the edges and sweep up your swarf when you're done! Thanks again I appreciate any and all responses.
  19. Here, now don't say we never gave you anything...the low that's been bitin' our arses for the past month has finally moved off the coast of New England and, well, is heading straight for you lot. BUT! Our next week is warm, clear and dry and you'll have that in a week or so. What a country, eh?
  20. Thank you. I think I'll need to speak with the former owner as each tube height is slightly different but both are 2-3mm above the clamp and both tubes are spun around so "Compression" and "Rebound" are upside down. I'm well aware that in and of themselves these are no concern, but exactly what went on here I'd like to know. Maybe he just didn't like to read and ride.
  21. What would be the stock measurement of how far the fork tubes extend above the top clamp on my '03 please?
  22. PHWOARRRRR..........STEVE!!.......... I just noticed you own an RC-30 You dog you. Our local dealer brought one in just when I bought a '89 600. Spent more time drooling over that than I did riding mine. It sat. And sat.And sat. -3- miles on it. Finally they sold it to some guy in the midwest....and I was bummmmmmed. That was '89 I'm just losing the pout now. I would have maimed for that machine.
  23. I agree with you, Steve. Not at ALL impressed with the amount of light or the positioning. Major problem here is I ride only during the day and that light will never get noticed . Maybe add another LED array?
