  1. M9RR’s absolute best tyres I’ve ever experienced on the ScuraR.

Pirelli Angel GT’s initially feel great - light & quick on the front - but that at first impressive feeling certainly wears off before long. Couple of thousand kilometres & front just feels average - can’t abide the rear squaring off so rapidly the fall over the squared lip cornering is meh unenjoyable. Never again.

On the other hand these M9RR’s lean angle confidence is awesome - they allow my mind total focus modulating in through exiting the corner - without worrying “will my tyres still stick” & that to me is No.1 priceless!

The rear shows no sign of squaring off - great even graduated wear.

Curiosity is the only reason why I would try some other tyre - but if someone offered me one choice of tyre for free tyres for life - I’d choose & be happy to stick with the M9RR!

Final oily comment - I’ve swapped between 180 & 170 sizes - as far as I’m concerned it’s mostly bull - 170 has less to do with it than the actual profile.

The rear M9RR @180 feels just as or even more responsive turning than the AngelGT @170.

A 5 millimetres difference each side imo is borderline bolderdash - in comparison to the influence of the actual manufactured tyre’s profile.

YMMV but in fact checking the 170 assertion  - obviously I’m too insensitive to feel 5ml of chicken strip edge difference - but I sure can feel & appreciate a tyres profile off dead centre straight away!

    +1 on long term…

  2. First owner of my Scura R was a Manxman - it was only after testing its limits on a few laps around the TT course that he traded it back in for an Aprilia with Paul Dedman.

After finalising deal with Paul I’d requested his contact & in speaking with him - I remember him saying he’d just wished it had more top end speed!!

Guess some guy’s always look for more if it’s out there…

Anyhoo I really dig Ashley Law competed the TT on a V11 Tenni tho!

    Coincidence :rasta:

All the "what if" and "what about" really don't mean much aside from entertainment value. Don't confuse correlational with causation.

Sure, make a mental note. You never know when you might meet "a guy" who really knows. Guzzi riders being pretty thin on the ground anywhere.

You just never know who you may run into.

I'm still waiting on the weather.

Yup. I’m just more comfortable conjecturing odds & dots Ratso88 than the perpetual myth alternative.

Your observation - Guzzi riders being pretty thin on the ground. Absolutely!

    Even less… Dr’s!

Dr John - Mighty Scura could!

But sure, you might  be right & meet a guy - some Dr - who really knows.

  4. Okay… so let’s drill down just a little more here…

Mike Rich remembers doing those heads & they ended up producing some of the best flow figures he’d ever produced right.

Mike also keeps those flow figures in his records but somehow doesn’t seem to mention to Chuck when he rang whether he also keeps the record of whoever it was who placed the order (yeah right).

I’d propose that client discretion was likely Mike’s policy in speaking to Chuck.

Mike also indicated he didn’t build the motor - it was presumably put together by the owner. Along with the order of Mike’s  titanium pushrods remember. Hmmm.

This some dumb Dr sure seems to know what he’s doing. (How many Dr’s do you know who are also mechanically minded - but I digress).

Mike also happens to be based in Newfoundland PA.

Chuck believes Dr is from New Hampshire because…

From memory..:oldgit::rolleyes: there was a New Hampshire sticker on the fork leg.

Okay - let’s stay with that for a moment. New Hampshire - where is that? Let’s search Google maps. Oh, the capital Concord happens to be a mere 320 miles North-East away from Mike’s…

Hmmm - so what are those odds? This mystery Dr who just so happens to have conceived & produced the most mental 2-valver Pete Roper has ever popped a scabby leg over.

It’s all conjecture - but it’s all about the odds here & whether they stack up.

So let’s see if we can find someone - a Dr - who has the requisite knowledge to produce such legendary performance as is the wit of the Mighty Scura.

So here we arrive at the confluence - it also just so happens that a mere 120 miles South of Mike Rich is one of the best places to live in Pennsylvania - a leafy suburb called West Chester.

Also the home of a Dr John Wittner.

That’s more than a mere happenstance.

A Dr - the original owner/developer of the Mighty Scura.

    Coincidence?

    Yeah right.

My understanding is the original owner was a Dr. from New Hampshire.

I seem to recall it’s often been said… a Dr from over East. Are you absolutely sure it’s New Hampshire Chuck?

Do we all really think this superlative performance is just the result of some lucky random act of someone pulling together a few selected parts? Or is it the refined outcome of an experienced masterful intellect?

Let’s hear again from someone who isn’t so easily impressed…

The Mighty Scura would pop up with no clutch in either of the lower two and not much more than a stroke in third if approached in anger. It is a stupidly, stupidly fun motorbike.

So let’s sleuth this out a little more…

    • Stupendous performance

    • From a Guzzi

    • A Dr

Hmmm… what would be the odds that there are two Dr’s out East that somehow know how to produce more awesome street power than anyone else outta a spiney Guzzi?

Ha! I’ll tell you that answer - nil, zilch.

So Chuck - the question has to be asked, “Are you sure that Dr isn’t from West Chester?”

    A Guzzi. A Dr.

    Maybe East - like in

    West Chester

    Pennsylvania.

    Welcome aboard Ratso88!  👍😎

You’re a very, very fortunate man - it’s been proselytised here over the years your new to you Mighty Scura is the absolute numero uno, most complete, powerful 2v square head ever perfected streetwise by Guzzidom’s Archangel Michael - hence attributively blessed with the eloquent moniker Mighty Scura.

It is by faith we chosen few believe…

    Huh? Why?

    SEX of course!

This exact Classic shot initially hooked me… after having been psychologically primed by following events…

Recently returned from my older brother’s funeral - he was the good, sensible, clean living one. Dead at fifty - stomach cancer.

Dirt bikes busted my teen bones, family urged ‘keep off ‘em - you’re gonna kill yourself’!

So after my brother, with a GS mate goading ‘get back in the saddle’ - I couldn’t see the point preserving my skin just for bloody cancer or some-such to do me down.

From the (then) new V7 - googled older Guzzi’s, & came across the V11…

Damn! Smitten on ‘puter looks alone! Tracked my Scura R down on the Isle of Man - it’s delivery was the first V11 I’d ever seen - in all her voluptuous flesh! Like a well-thumbed Penthouse centrefold vision rolling down the ramp - a slightly breathless moment & I’ve never tired of riding her since!

    Mae West said it best.

    “Sex is emotion in motion.”

So, one of the things I must consider is what to do with this bike:

    1) make sure mechanicals are good and store it for when/if something goes wrong with the Tenni.

    2) rehabilitate it mechanically, but leave it alone cosmetically and have that rat bike I've always wanted.

    3) Spruce her up considerably and really appreciate (per Docc) the monochromatic fireball.

You’ve already got a Tenni… so makes sense keep that fairly original. 👍

If I had a scruffy 2nd V11 without the emotional attachment - I’d feel free to do any goddamn change I ever fancied…

To hell with stock - when you’ve got two have some fun & hop it up!

Experiment anywhere along the range between GB Trofeo & Church of Choppers!

You might end up with something you love even more than your stock Tenni! 👍😎
