I ordered the #"175" tank ring.  Still not sure if chinpad and no chinpad caps have the same bolt pattern.  I'll report findings when my part gets here.

Note sure what you are speaking of as to chin pad bolt pattern.  The chin pad sits forward of the tank ring.  The 175 should work no problem.  The challenge will be getting the bag to lock in to the ring as the chin pad "padding" will interfere on the 2002.  As I noted above, probably the cleanest way to mount the tank ring/tank bag without having to take the chin pad off of a 2002 tank is purchase multiple mounting rings (Pc. 2, Part #TRT.00.640.014).  If you can obtain the individual mounting rings (which really just a spacer ring) from SWMotech you can stack 2 or 3 mounting rings underneath the top latching ring."  Or if you are so inclined you could fabricate a couple of rings out of hard plastic or aluminum using the Pc. 2 of the kit.  Someone with a 3D printer or a CNC machine could undertake this no problem.  You would need to adapt longer bolts than those supplied with the kit but it would then allow you to clear the chin pad thickness.  With the 03 LeMans (w/ no chin pad) my large 15-21 Liter SWMotech bag has to be pushed down very slightly to lock in.  Not the case when installed on the Norge as the tank ring sits very slightly higher.

Tom, yes that looks to be the same knob as the one MG Cycles shipped me.  That said, when Joel called me to report my speedo was ready to ship he also offered to make me a new knob which I agreed to. This way I know I have a solution and the backup knob from MG. Will let you guys know how it all works out.

OKay, sorry I wasn't quicker to find it and respond.  Could have saved you a few clams.

I love it when people keep a bike or car for a significant percentage of their life. A tangible, physical connection to their life journey and history. Very nice.

    Phil

Rode it from Idaho to Virginia in May 1980.  2200 miles in 3 days.  Back then I was pretty tough.  Now at 63, if I do 400 miles in a day then I'm done for a few days.  Wouldn't trade my memories on this bike for anything.

  5. Bought this motorcycle in 1979 from a guy in Marion VA.  I was 22 years young.  Rode the heck out of it until winter of 1982.   That was shortly after my oldest son was born.  The bike took a back seat to other life priorities (and my wife's insistence that I give up road bikes until both of our sons were grown).  She was okay, however, with riding the dirt instead.  So the Eldo got shuffled around, into sheds, onto and off front porches, finally into a garage I built.  At one point I tried to give it away.  Gratefully I never carried out with that plan.  Once I retired I still didn't have time to restore so I ended up hiring a guy to handle the task.  Here's a pic I took  couple of weeks ago on Fort Monroe, Hampton VA of her in fully restored condition.  She rides like an old bike, brakes and all.  But I love her.  Told the wife I'm gonna make a room in the house so she can stay warm and dry each winter.  Ha!, she said "no".

  6. Here's the same tank ring set KINDAOY2 recommends with the kit diagram/parts list/pics attached.  This is installed on my '03 LM with a bigger, farther setback tank bag (15-21 Liter).  If you can purchase the kit, then purchase multiple mounting rings (Pc. 2) you can stack 2 or 3 and just adapt longer bolts for it to work out and still clear the chin pad.  See pics.

Guys, I've corresponded with Joel Levine: www.joellevinecompany.com.  Says he can do them for $295 which includes a 1-year warranty. He was recommended from this forum. Shipping today, will let you know how it goes.

I've think I have a knob in good shape.  I just have to put my hands on it.  I sent the old odo to a guy in Canada for some R&D he was gonna do on his ITI gage.   My odo/speedo is now a (duR) from TLM so no use for it.

Yes reading Dave Richardsons latest book not all the wrinkle finish engines were affected only the earlier ones. Seems it was a batch issue.Interestingly no gearboxes with the finish were an issue.

    Ciao

yeah the tranny looks good, but the engine case finish would def start to flake if washed with a hose blast.  I'm gonna go real easy on it.

  9. So received the bike,  perfect condition (other than the motor case finish which looks very clean but wrinkled finish with occasional coating bubbles).

A few days ago, after the rain cleared and roads dried, I did a short 20 mile local "trial run" to check it out for any standout gremlins.  Noted that the rear suspension is way too stiff for me on compression, not unexpected.  It gives me a really good wack out back on any sharp or sudden bump.  Checked it against my '03 LM and it is set the same.  Backed off the compression adjustment just a bit, thinking that the spring is stiffer since it is almost new (2455 miles).

Transmission shifts properly, smooth and tight. Have the indestructible Chuck/SCUD spring to install but will wait until this winter (or until it breaks lol).

The tachometer, dash lights, headlight and brake light went dead about 15 miles into the test run.  Put the bike thru about 8 stop/short cool down/start cycles en-route.  Got home and started running thru all the V11 forum threads for "tach quit", "headlight out", "dash lights out".  Checked the (new) battery connections (nice and tight).  Gleaned thru some of the troubleshooting tips offered in the threads.  Checked bottom of relay box for loose wiring, swapped relays one at a time and then all with good relays, no change.  Removed/inspected the fuses, swapped a few like fuses, no change.  Bike was started and stopped probably 10 times during this with no issues in starting or running.  Plugged battery into trickle charger and went to bed.

This morning bike started with no repeat of "loss of" condition described above.  Another 20 miles on test run #2 with no issues noted.  Really got me scratching my head, I'm gonna keep putting a few more local trips on it to see it the condition reoccurs.  In the back of my head I hope I am not looking at possibly replacing an intermittent voltage regulator already.

  10. Anyone know offhand if the TPS holddown screws have LocTite applied?.  The installed Torx holddown screw heads have yellow paint or Glyptal on them.  I am replacing the TORX screws with the SS socket head capscrews per docc's guidance in Decent Tuneup.  Thanks in advance.

  11. I have been discussing with docc about conducting another V11 tuning session during Spine Raid 2020.  I have all the cables for connection,  a new to me (non-electrical bloke) Fluke 117 multi meter,  a spare TPS,  a bunch of spare stainless steel hex head cap screws to replace the TORX screws in TPS and finally the TWIN-MAXX cylinder balancing tool.  However, I am short on both computer knowledge/ability and a computer to do the guzzidiag part of the decent tuneup.

Wondering if anyone technically (computer) inclined could bring along a computer device with guzzidiag loaded to use in a tune up session?  I will surely be happy to compensate anyone for the trouble.  If not,I will bring along my small desktop computer (Windows10) that I loaded guzzidiag on in hopes someone can guide me thru it.

Charlie Mullendore (MG restorer/Antietam Classic Cycle) has given Joel Levine  good marks for the odo/tachs he has sent to him.  For my ITI odo, I gave up and scrapped it.  Ordered a "new" kph ODO (manufacturer is duR) from TLM.  Cost was $158 plus postage (about a year ago) but it works excellent.  I put some very tiny thin strips of red electrical tape to designate 40/50/60/70 mph until my old mind is able to make the conversion without too much thinking.

  13. Seattle Speedo "says" he can rehab ITIs.  I sent him mine, duped me for about $580.  Don't send to him, he has apparently scammed quite a few folks.  One guy from California sent him about 6 rare Porsche gauges.  Sadly he never saw them again.  (Moderators: delete if this is inappropriate - Tom).

  14. Since this one is a 2002, I am just a wee bit worried about the engine case paint spalling off.  I plan to use either one or the other of these to protect/preserve the paint/coating.  I use the Moto Protect on my KTM 250 (plastic, aluminum and painted surfaces) with good success.  I have also used the HD Engine Brightener on my 2007 Street Glide (before I traded it) and have sprayed the engine cases/valve covers/trans. of my '03 Lemans with excellent results.  Both are silicone in nature, but the HD product is quite a bit heavier and therefore stays intact longer.  But I must caution, either of these must not be used on seats, grips, pegs, TIRES! and all brake surfaces (pads/rotors/calipers) should be covered before you try to spray it on.  Of course, the HD product comes with a HD price LOL.

Any feedback or experience on engine /trans case preservation on 2002 LeMans welcome.

No , it is a ( careful ) easy installation , I posted a long time ago , this is the best money spent on a mod you will never ( well almost ) see .

So excuse my ignorance, or rather laziness in sorting thru a lot of threads to determine, but what year(s) of V11 does this fit?
