  1. So I did my fall PMs, fluid changes/valve adjustments/rebalancing TBs and the sort on the red '03 LM.  Had a nice warm sunny day so looked to take advantage and get a ride in before the weather changed.  Got about 3-4 miles down the road when the motor started sputtering.  In moderate traffic so I'm looking for a real quick bail out place while jabb-ing at the throttle open to try to keep the motor running.  Tap the rear brake once or twice to slow down, super squishy flat-tire feeling.  Golly, I'm now thinking "how in the world can 2 separate problems crop up at once!"  Make it into a church parking lot, throw down the side stand and look down to find gas running from under the tank, down the side of tranny/motor, dripping off the "Y" exhaust pipe, soaking right leg of leathers and into the inside of my right boot.  Also see a standing puddle of gas on the ground below where I sit.  Now I'm "FREAKING OUT!!!" (as my 5 y/o old granddaughter says).  I quickly hop off, roll it forward away from the puddle, grab the tank bag off in case the whole bike goes up in flames.  Grab my phone out of tank bag and start to call 911 as I was sure the exhaust would light it off.  I give it about 10-15 seconds and .... no ignition/no flames.  WHEW, breathing a BIG sigh of relief.  Dial up my son to come bail me out with the truck and motorcycle trailer. (My son said he's seen a couple of wrecks at the track due to fuel leaks getting on the rear tire).

Back at home, tank off, bike up on the rack, I find that somehow the inner QD at the tank elbow nipple had come disconnected.  A few strong arm efforts at reconnection (without stressing the plastic tank elbow too much) I am unable to get it to lock back in.  I surmise that my QD rebuilding effort about 6-7 years ago I likely used the wrong material O-rings, resulting in them becoming swollen up and prevent the QD from seating.  At least this is my preliminary hypothesis.

Have given it a good effort cleaning the boots and leathers, looks like only time will tell if they survive the dousing.  Just very grateful that my bike (and me) didn't go up in smoke.  I would have been a not-so comical sight on the roadside, hot footing it with my right boot and right leg on fire, as well as my beloved LeMans, heavily involved in a serious gasoline fire.

Lesson learned.  New connectors (both sides, tank and fuel line) on order from MG Cycle.  From now on, when it comes to fuel repairs, there will be no cutting corners here in this Virgina garage.

Deepest sympathies to those connected with the loss associated with the respected Griso Ghetto forum. :(

I have grown to see the Griso as the successor to the V11 and, likely, last iteration of the venerable Moto Guzzi BigBlock we have come to love. :mg:

The sad events that have occurred on that forum have raised the concern for the continuity of V11LeMans.com. I had a conversation with Jaap and it was decided to open the discussion to our devoted membership

The difficult question: Can we, and how can we, preserve this V11 archive without the content hinging on one (or two) individuals?  Is there such a thing as a community funded digital trust?  :huh2:

I mean, let's face it. No one ever thought such a specialized forum/board would hold together this long, already. :oldgit:  <_<

    What a community! Y'all rock ! :drink:

Man. I hope something like what you propose is possible.  I would gladly support any transition costs as requested.  I constantly send outside V11 folks here.

(Off topic a bit but here goes ...A guy I met thru facebook just purchased a V11 in Indiana, I think, and was gonna ride it home to CA.  I mentioned carrying a spare shift return spring with him and pointed him to the thread for design/development.  Told him to PM SCUD for a new "indestructible" spring.  Long story short, he got it, packed it, and somewhere half way back, sure enough, the shift spring broke.  He found some assistance and he was shortly back on his way).

Soo, none of this would have been possible with all the "spring engineers/testers/manufacturers/supply chain" here on the V11 forum.  You guys basically saved his trip without knowing it even happened.

Money is sitting here ready to support docc' suggestion.  This site has to be saved for posterity and accessible for all those V11 owners/mechanics  20, 30, 40 years from now.

  3. In support of continuing superior V11 refinement, you can count me in on a CF booty lid to match my Carbon Fiber FBF cans on my '03 LM.

Assume Frey ZI will handle disbursement and the builder will handle shipping?  I expect all that usual collective organizing stuff will follow via comments.

I'll be on the MotoGP road to Texas for about 2 weeks but available for collecting $ after 4/15/22.

Must say another great effort by the group.  I never know what's the next for "opportunity" for my wallet :mg:

Do realize that a Fox Creek jackets is not your department store thickness leather, "soft and feely".  It is real, hand graded thick leather.  Like race leathers thickness/quality.  Their jackets are heavy and wear very well.  My jacket is probably 15 years old and would pass as almost new, despite 10 years of hard use.

I'd call them and get someone on the phone who can talk "tailoring" you a new custom fitted jacket.  The down stairs is usually just a store clerk.  Tell them you want to speak to someone from "upstairs" who is actually involved in the fitting/cutting/sewing process.

Since you are in Texas, make sure the jacket you get has zip-able front and back vents, as well as vented pit zips.  Mine also has 3M piping front and back for nighttime reflectivity.  I don't see my style shown but is similar to https://www.foxcreekleather.com/mens-grayson-motorcycle-jacket/.

    See what I mean?

The jacket tailor made from Foxcreekleather has a comparable price with some of the pre-owned jackets I looked at on the Fedora Lounge.

    They look pretty good too....

With a leather jacket, here in Texas, I don't think I could wear protections. Unless I intend to pass away from dehydration. I need a Café Racer Leather jacket suitable for Death Valley!!!

    Maybe this one? https://www.foxcreekleather.com/mens-summer-riding-jacket/

These guys make some of the best.  I have one similar.  They take your measurements and tailor make in upstairs of their shop in Independence, VA.  American made leather, lifetime guarantee. A bit pricy  but I found worth every penny.

Not sure about armor, I don't have in mine.  Generally I opt for my Dainese Air Frame textile jacket with either the D-Air bag vest or a track vest underneath instead of the leather.  I'm too old to be sportin' leather for chicks!

  8. Just listed on FB "Moto Guzzi's For Sale" page:  7700 miles, $7000

2002 V11 Lemans Tenni. Pretty sweet ride and it gets alot of looks It was upgraded to titanium mufflers at original purchase. Has a few other extras, but it comes already upgraded from the factory. It is number 130 of 170 made world wide. 30 sold in the usa. It gets looks wherever I ride. Runs and drives great! Would trade for the right Stelvio.

I gave Twin AH a heads up, think he had been looking for a pristine Tenni.

  9. Have never gotten any good service from Harpers, on 3 occasions requested parts for 3 different items, Curtis said he had or would send upon receipt.  never rec'd any further response.  I use MG cycle as a primary source, then go to Stein Denise.  You could also try Jim Hamlin Cycles in CN.
