  1. Thanks Marty, You've convinced me....to put Seafoam in the tank & call it a day. I'll still enjoy reading about you & Scud opening up, repairing & rebuilding engines & stuff
  2. I remember someone saying ' you can always find a problem if you look hard enough '
  3. Very thorough & helpful. Thanks Chuck. Hope the back's healed up enough to enjoy this Spring weather we're having & you can give us a ride report
  4. Most tank fulls of fuel for my V11, are Shell V power premium, which they advertise has fuel cleaners in it. But does anyone pull the injectors at a regular mileage interval ?
  5. Scratching my head & having a think here. Then decided I should ask more knowledgable mechanics. Recently on my diesel Sprinter it was running a bit rougher than I remembered so I added some Lucas fuel injector cleaner which seemed to help after a couple of tanks. Last year at the SSR Tech session, Docc recommended cleaning out the throttle bodies, which I dutifully did. Now I'm wondering about the fuel injectors on the V11, as I imagine they have similar amounts of gunk on them. The bike doesn't get run as much as the Sprinter, but the injectors never been worked on. What's the general opinion about putting injector cleaner in the tank periodically ?
  6. I think it's a cultural thing amongst mice. You know how we associate Pasta with the Italiens, potatoes with the Irish. The mice in my shed prefer clean rags with chamois when they can get it, but thankfully no wiring. Cos over the past 5 winters they have had plenty of opportunity.
  7. Whenever I go in my shed & see rags chewed up & realize The mice are back ! Luckily no damage; just chewed up rag nest in front of the airbox !
  8. SH. That is a tough week. You have the right attitude about it though, it is what it is. It will get better from here. Routing for you.
  9. Seems you need to have different hammers for different curves. The number of hammers needed could be endless
  10. In that video of yours they showed the small aircraft you'd built & I wondered at the time if you had fabricated the metal bodywork. Many years ago a friend of mine was building a wooden frame aircraft in his garage; I don't know if it was ever completed or flown, but I remember admiring how light & risilient the wing sections were. Firm but able to flex.
  11. This evening while doing chores, I turned on the TV. The program was 'Craftsman Legacy'. Never heard of it before. The host runs Voodoo Choppers & was demonstrating how to shape a front fender from 18 gauge sheet steel. As a fabricator of all things wooden I'm fascinated how other craftsmen shape their materials. I've worked with sheet metal before & always been startled how easily it warps & deforms. Then wondering how do they get the stuff to be so smooth ? How do they create those sensuous lines on aircraft or cars ? The program worked through putting big dints in the metal, got that bit down, then working out the ripples. Then finally the fabled 'English wheel, with the craftsman smoothing & refining the shape of the fender. So different to the material I work; you don't stretch or compress wood like that. Fascinating.
  12. I am an enthusiastic amateur and the 1100 Sport needs a knowledgeable mechanic. Case in point; Chuck's sons bike was a 'Barn find'. It's a beautiful thing now. A couple of winter's ago on the WildGuzzi forum, Unkempt kept us entertained over the lousy weather as he took lesson's at Chuck's Home for the Mechanically Illiterate. I learned many a detail then. I'm curious, Mr Roper was of the opinion that the gearbox needed to be rebuilt on the craigslist 1100 Sport. Is that a common problem with those models ? Tim, My garage is so full that I'm keeping my Griso over at my neighbors. Need to build an extension, a bigger Man cave. I pity the owners of UJM's etc; no need to tinker & adjust. It's the main reason for my beer night with my neighbor He's lusting after a mid 80's BMW, again returning to biking after a long hiatus.
  13. Docc, Scud, Chuck just burst my bubble ! 'Neophytes need not apply '.
  14. You know. Maybe I should listen to wiser voices such as you three... Maybe there could be room in my garage....
  15. I can only lie so many times to my wife ! You're a funny man !
  16. Saw this and wanted to pass it along: http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/5934847744.html A very enthusiastic Guzzi owner & justifiably proud
  17. Merry Christmas everyone! What brand of crimpers do we prefer ?
  18. Cam/timing sensor could use a fresh #112 O-ring? Thanks Docc & Scud. Thanks to all; making me a better mechanic one problem at a time. Have a Great Christmas !
  19. It's the R H cylinder to the Griso. I had a relaxing afternoon getting to know her better, undoing panels, trying to tighten up sections. Looking to see what the previous owners had changed. Curiously, like my V11, there is a weep /leak on the LH of the front of the engine at the timing cover. Other than that everything appears tight. Many of the fuel & breather hoses have been replaced, the one in the picture is an exception. Which I'll sort out soon. I had taken those clamps apart before but couldn't reassemble them which I'd assumed was because I didn't have the specialized crimping tool. I guess that isn't the case. Somewhere I read that the BMW hose clamps don't 'cut' into the rubber as much as screw clamps. Anyone confirm this ? At the moment I'm still looking & trying to see where all the parts & hoses go. Obviously having a V11 helps a lot but there are still many unknowns. I have the owners manual & a service manual but there are sections not covered at all, like getting to & greasing the swinging arm bearings. It seems parts of the vapor recovery system have been removed like many V11's. Reading / lurking on Grisoghetto is helping identify many of these jigsaw puzzle pieces. But as yet I'm waiting on 'registration' from the admin guys so I can't see the pictures ! It seems the PO had adjusted the suspension, forks are up 6 notches above the top brace, the rear preload has the Spring compressed about 3/4 of it's adjustment. I haven't figured out where the damping settings are adjusted to yet. The tyres, Michelin pilot 4's, are months old and have a couple of hundred miles on them. All in all I'm pleased with the purchase, no buyers remorse and am looking forward to the Spring. Although the idea of cleaning all the spokes on the wheels ! What was I thinking!
  20. Chamberlin, Increase your odds of a sale by putting an ad on WildGuzzi as well.
