  1. Question about the low fuel light trick: can a resistor be used instead? Something less fragile and longer lasting? I'm worried about that bulb burning out or breaking while being tucked away inside the gauge pod. I feel like some sort of solid state electronic component might be sturdier...
  2. I found Pyro Dan's site. He has some nice relays but I didn't see anything about sockets. I sent him an email and didn't get any reply. I also searched for the company that makes them – GEI (Greenwich Electronics Inc.) – and tried calling them but the number on their site was disconnected :-/
  3. these: http://theelectricaldepot.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_76&products_id=449 and these: http://theelectricaldepot.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_76&products_id=448
  4. the row of three blades on one side are 4.8mm, the other two are 6.3mm. the females are crimp on connectors.
  5. ok i am clearly suffering from project derangement syndrome. just looked at the relay sockets, lo and behold they all have mounting tabs. either i hallucinated the tabless ones last night, or a gremlin snuck in and swapped them out while i was away. i am going with the latter.
  6. That's not the same one as we have on our bikes, it doesn't have the grooves on the sides that allow it to slide into the other ones as seen here: http://store.chiefenterprises.com/Products/Sockets-Terminals/V23333Z1001B045-1-1904045-5-Micro-Relay-Socket The blade connectors are sold separately and are be crimped on to the wires: "6.3 mm Fastin-Faston quick connect terminals and 4.8 mm G&H terminals." I guess I can just trim the tabs off.
  7. ok, I found the BOSCH part number for the two mini relay sockets with tabs. It's the "bosch micro ISO relay 3-334-485-045" Haven't found the tabless ones yet. Would still love to know what those are.
  8. I need a couple, I'd like to use the exact same ones because they slide so neatly together. Looking at the parts manual and on Harper Moto, they inexplicably only show two (the bike has five) and they don't list the part separately from the entire wiring harness. My bike has two kinds: the ones shown in the manual that have tabs to mount to the frame, and three additional ones with no tabs that slide together. Anyone know what the part number is for either of these, and where to get them? Thanks as always!
  9. Ahhh. Sounds great, where can I buy one? I searched for it but all searches come back here. MPH and Moto International don't have them listed on their sites, and I'd rather give Pete the money directly anyway. Engine health and oil-not-shooting-out-the-breather are more important, but I wonder: how does it affect the ability to mount a chin spoiler? Thanks!

    Designing Custom Intakes

Hey, sorry I missed this. I designed it in Cinema 4D. Not the best software for solid modeling but I've figured out how to get it to work. If you know AutoCad then you're ready to go.
  11. Well count me in as someone interested in solving multiple problems with one cheap product! Please, do tell!
  12. Cool, thanks Roy! How many pulses does the wire from the ECU put out, both? So, two pulses per rev? Or does it just send one? (moderator edit/ 20 May 2017: the ECU rpm signal is two pulses per revolution. Very easy to select on the Speedhut tach. docc)
  13. this is very cool, thanks Roy! question about the tach: do you use the original wires from the harness that went into the veglia tach? or do you run a wire off the coils? if you do use the wires supplied by the harness, which one? other than the yellow power wire and the black ground, there are a couple of them (yellow and black stripe, red and black stripe), and the speedhut only has one input wire I think... would be much cleaner and easier to use one of the harness wires. looking at the wiring diagram it seems like the yellow/black wire runs to the ECU so I was going to try that one first.

same here. should have them in a couple weeks.

    Instrument Pod

thanks guys! after it's all wired up I think I might paint the pod guzzi silver. or black. sort of on the fence about it.
  16. I'll see what I can finagle. Definitely would be nice to re-route that return line. BTW, did you get my private messages?

    Instrument Pod

From the album: 2001 v11 SP

Wiring has begun for all in one Speedhut instrument and LED idiot lights into the 3D printed plastic pod and stainless steel brackets.
  18. Ahh, I see. The line I thought was the crankcase breather is the return line then. Thanks GuzziMoto. That bastard is right smack in the middle of a very cluttered area, between the fuel line coming out of the filter, the throttle body and bracket, the petcock and fuel line to the fuel pump, and various wires. Would have been nice to do away with it.
  19. Didn't pour it out into a measuring cup, maybe I should have. I was around a half cup I'd say, a quarter cup in each side.= where the stacks go in. Question about the crankcase breather hose: if I'm getting rid of the airbox, does it have to be routed up to the spine, and then back out of the top of the spine? Can I just put my little filter on a hose coming out of the sump, and plug the holes in the spine? Sure would be nice to get rid of that hose that comes up next to the lefthand throttle body...

    RH Velocity Stack Rendering

I'll let you know either way when I get them from the printers. Cross your fingers for me!
  21. From the album: 2001 v11 SP

Off to the 3D printers... Hopefully everything fits as it should, otherwise it'll have to be back to the drawing board.
  22. Pretty fantastic considering the bike is only supposed to put out ~80hp at the rear wheel. You haven't done any performance mods to the engine?
  23. I've heard mostly terrible things about Shorai. As far as cold starting goes, my EarthX started up fine after sitting overnight in ~32 degree weather last fall... I do have a new R/R than puts out over 14v of charging, that might have helped too. So far it seems to me like the only disadvantage to Li ion batteries is you can't jump start them from another conventional battery in the event that it's drained. As far as weight savings is concerned, every bit helps, and ten pounds is pretty huge especially when part of an overall weigh loss program. It's a very easy place to drop weight.

    Breather Hose With Filter

From the album: 2001 v11 SP

    And relocated air temp sensor.
  25. The bike had around 45 - 50K on it when I bought it, and I'm not sure how often, if ever, the previous owners cleaned it out. So, I suppose it could just be build up after 13 years... But it's still a bit shocking how much was in there. When I replaced my plugs they were greasy black and shiny. At first I just assumed the bike was running too rich, but now after removing the air box and seeing how much oil was down in the crooks where the stacks go into it, I'm wondering if some of that oil was getting sucked back into the combustion chamber. This ain't a two stroke last time I checked! The importance of this is that I am in the process of converting to pods. I installed a filter on the breather hose, which I attached to the spine under the tank. My concern now is, will I have oil seeping out of the breather filter and oozing down the spine onto the engine etc. or worse dripping down and getting onto the rear wheel while I'm riding? This could potentially be catastrophic. So I guess the question is: is it normal for there to be so much oil in the air box? If not, what should I be looking into? What would cause the breather to kick so much oil up? Too much oil in the engine? For those who are running pods instrad of the stock box, is there a better/safer place to route the breather to? Thanks!
