I suppose I should clean the injectors and throttle bodies to clean out the remnants of the old fuel as well.

I figured out the issue. It was a simple grounding problem.
Now, I have a new issue. The bike starts right up, but the idle is extremely high. I'm assuming it's getting too much air somewhere. I'm hoping to have some time to take a look at it tomorrow. I'm a little lost, as it idled fine before replacing the fuel pump. The tach is also shot.- 1

Did you test it? Was it really blown?
If so, why? There is a problem somewhere. If not, that was obviously not the problem.
I'd be suspecting bad connections somewhere. Either corrosion through standing around, or having missed a cable when re-installing the battery, as has been mentioned, or some other cable (like the clutch switch connedtors), that may have been somehow involved in any work done on the bike.
It wasn't blow, but as I mentioned, electricity is foreign to me. I changed it out of caution. I have plenty of fuses lying around.
I know enough to know that if the fuse wasn't blown, it's probably an issue with some connection. -
Thanks again, everyone. I'll be back at it again tomorrow.
I can tear apart the engine, forks, transmission, etc., and rebuild them to spec, but when it comes to the electrical side, I'm an idiot.

Thank you, everyone.
I should have said this before: Pro Italia also installed the battery. I rode the bike home with no problems. A day or two later, the fuel pump went out. After replacing that was when the electrical problem arose. I'll remove the battery and re-install it. I've already changed the fuse.- 1

Hello everyone.
My 2003 V11 Sport sat for over a year due to a lot of traveling for work. I stupidly forgot to put a stabilizer in the tank, which led to the fuel going bad, as well as the fuel pump. I drained the fuel, then added more, replaced the fuel pump, and put in a brand-new Yuasa battery that I got from Pro Italia in Glendale.
After getting the bike back together, it won't start. No lights on the dash (neutral, oil pressure), and the fuel pump doesn't engage. So, it seems I'm not getting any power from the battery.
The battery tests fine, and when I plug it into the trickle charger, the green storage light blinks. I've checked the fuse and any connections I could have messed up along the way, but everything seems fine. I'm not sure what to do next.I'm looking forward to your help, as everyone here has always guided me in the right direction over the years. Thank you.

I'm not familiar with that brand, but have heard of that country of origin.
You could take that by any auto parts store and they will load test it for you. There will be a date code on it somewhere.
That is certainly the likely culprit and an easy fix.
Thanks for your help, as always!
I'm really hoping that it's just the battery.

Good to see you back @thelonewonderer!
What kind of battery is in your V11?
Hey Docc! I was hoping to hear from you. I'm including a picture of the battery in this post. It's pretty old, but it has always been hooked up to a battery tender when not in use.

OK I am no mechanic but I will jump in: Your battery may take a charge fine (in volts) but no longer have the cranking power (amps) to turn over the motor. I really doubt it is the starter motor. The clicking is "normal" in that you will hear it when battery cannot start the bike. And after a while you will hear nothing if you keep trying it.
I would bump start the bike in 2nd gear and ride around for at least 20 min at >4K RPM which is approx the RPM needed on these bikes (typically) to charge the bike. If the bike still won't start after that, I'd begin to suspect the battery even if the volts look good (> than approx 12.4). And if the battery is bad, you must wonder why it went bad - could be the wrong charger or a failing/failed rectifier.
Thank you for your response. I had it hooked up to a Battery Tender Junior, so maybe it wasn't getting enough juice while it sat.

Hey all!
It's been a while since I've been on this forum. I got into an accident on my V11 right before the pandemic started and have been using my car to get around. Now, I need to start commuting on the bike again.
I have ridden it a few times here and there since the accident with no issues, then plugged the battery into a battery tender and commuted in by car. Over the past couple weeks the bike would start. I took it for a test ride today and everything seemed fine. Stopped to fuel up but after that the bike wouldn't start. At first, I was just getting clicking noises from the starter motor, but after awhile it wasn't making any noise, making me think it could be a power issue.
Luckily, I wasn't far from home, so I walked her back. I tested the battery and it's giving good readings and is now hooked back up to the tender. The fuel pump is engaging, but it just won't start. I've checked the fuses, all good.
I am wondering if it could be the starter motor. I've never tested one before and I'm not quite sure how to do so.
I'm hoping some of you awesome gurus could help me out in determining the issue. I've been through a lot with this bike (full engine rebuild, accident, etc.), and I would love to get her back on the road.
I've never heard of a starter motor going bad after sitting still for a while, but I have a feeling that it's part of the problem. Then again, what do I know?
Looking forward to any and all advice the great people of this forum have to offer.

Good call on the spares. I'll be keeping some on me, from now on.
I learned to carry a spare spark plug and resister cap (actually a pair) in the monkey paw trap. Even shared them with an unlucky friend on a roadside out in the hilly countryside once . . .

Well guys, this post sucks. I was commuting home from work this past Thursday and a car pushed me into the back end of an SUV. The car kept on its merry way, leaving me tumbling on the freeway. Thank God for good gear, and for the cars behind me stopping in time.
My bike doesn't seem to be too banged up, and the same goes for me, luckily.
I did an inspection on the side of the road, and most of the damage was to the spark plug guard. It saved the head, but the plug was destroyed. I was less than a mile from home, and the bike started up. Obviously, only one cylinder was firing, due to the broken spark plug, but I was able to get her home and in the garage.
I'll be assessing the damage more when I get some free time.
I've always wanted to be more active on this forum, but this definitely isn't what I meant by that!

Hey everyone! I know it's been over a year, but I believe if figured this one out. I thought I'd post my theory, then update when I get the parts in and the gearbox back together.
Basically, the problem with down shifting seemed to go away, but it started creeping back. I was riding one day and the issue got worse. Then the selector spring broke, so I had to get the bike home in 2nd gear (thank you to everyone that posted on the forum about the springs breaking; it made my problem easy to diagnose).
I got the new selector spring in and was putting the gearbox selector back together when I noticed ANOTHER broken spring, the Lever Spring. So, I believe that my troubles down shifting were because one of the long arms of this spring had snapped off. I also think this led to more stress than normal on the shifter spring, which caused it's failure, or it could just be a coincidence. Either way, I'm ordering a new lever spring from Harper Moto. Like I said, I'll update when I get her back together. Hopefully, these were the only gremlins in the gearbox!
On another note, anyone have any advice on installing the circlips that hold the selector gears in place? I always seem to bend them out of shape, rendering them useless.

Well, if you're in the SoCal area, we could all try to get together for a ride.
Thanks. If I've met him, I've forgotten. I'm old..
My friend's name is Christopher.Well, I know Rox and Richard. There was another Scura on a ride to Ojai about 3-4 years ago, but I don't remember his name. 3 Scuras is definitely a rally.

I do fancy a Scura in its original form, or with slight modifications. That being said, this still looks like a cool ride.http://www.bikeexif.com/custom-moto-guzzi-v11-scura
What the hell? What a waste of a great bike. I hope they were lying about it actually being a Scura.

W/ a silver polished Ohlins fork? Just asking and learning - regards, Hayo

It was nice riding again. When we stopped at the Rock Store, other riders talked our ears off about our V11's and took pictures of them. Good time!

No power with a brand-new battery

Absolutely.
One of the positive connections at the battery was touching a bit of metal that isn't a part of the electrical system. There are many connections to the battery's positive terminal, including a quick connection for a trickle charger. The quick connection was the issue. I removed the connections and then put them back in a manner where this was no longer an issue.
As for the high idle, after more tests, it's not simply a "high" idle. Upon starting the engine, it revs fully, as if I'm fully opening the throttle. It seems to be a problematic cable, or something gummed up within the throttle body. Or it's simply running overly lean?
