  1. Despite having seen that image before and having forwarded it on to someone at work who used the expression. The tea spoons were disapearing from the tea club. I didn't know it's origins. So I've just Googled it. Because of their powerful forelegs and bite if you want to poke a badger you have to do it in the spoon position, is that what you're saying Jim? I think your logging trips are too long Frisky will have to keep you away from the wildlife. Above has no relationship to the answer I found on Google Just a product of my deviant mind. Though deviant brings us back to the origin of the phrase - his deviation - make up and women's clothing takes us back through Monty Python to lumberjacks and therefore Jim again I agree with no 2. It's good having a common interest and then you see snap shots of other peoples lives.
  2. The western world is going mad - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6218214.stm?ls I fear a backlash is on the horizon. Jack Straw used to be Home secretary and then Foreign Secretary and now a backbencher, he recently has raised concerns with Muslim women wearing the veil in Britain. Some will say his fall from grace was at US request as not in line with their policy and he is now taking a more robust stance against Muslim culture and overly PCness to reintegrate himself. Personally I'm a Christmas humbug person, it's too commercialised. I'm even less taken with New Year. As a police officer every one loves you 15 minutes either side of midnight and the rest of the year they wouldn't give you the time of day. There's nothing like a drunken woman trying to slobber all over you, when you're stone cold sober But I'd still wish you a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" . Am I a hypocrite?
  3. Here goes a misunderstanding - Smiley indicating agreement with the above quoted poster not calling Steve stupid of course - attempting to indicate that didn't think Steve's is stupid unfortunately beyond my powers to move it - I can't moderate in this forum Jaap please - second request to move into other forum in line with original quote request but I think - personal opinion each protagonist - Gary and Greg has put their case - any more would be repetition * - unless they have to have the last word ad nauseum - they're unlikely to revisit the thread and the only way the topic would develop would be those like Steve were in the position of buying a new motorcycle at that time give their opinion and explain what they actually bought - probably could do with "who" inserted between "Steve" & "were" However I doubt many that did go Harley have actually ended up here. - The premise , though could be wrong, that those who would have bought a Harley, for whatever reason, at that time would later be interested in MG V11's. Especially after we hear so much about the "lifestyle" element of buying HD. I apologise if you inferred, from my poorly constructed post, that I was calling you a "stupid shit" It was not my intention to imply that.
  4. If it's not lash in the drive train, check the suspension eyes and also the parallelogram linkage above the shaft. They're the places that spring to mind that might cause this. But my money is on lhs rear wheel bearings I think that was the first symptom I noticed. If it is check the inner spacer - it will be too short. Infact do this first - sideways rocking test on rear wheel.
  5. The thread title hopefuly explains it all I make the assumption that your avtar means somethin to you, here's the chance to explain it. (include a copy of it if you tend to change them) Mine - is a statue of a goose I came across whilst riding back along the dyke tops returning from Jaap's International V11 meeting held in Varsseveld, Holland in September 04. It seemed fitting a Goose on a Goose.
  6. not calling Steve stupid of course- unfortunately beyond my powers to move it - Jaap please, but I think each protagonist probably has put their case* and the only way the topic would develop would be those like Steve were in the position of buying a new motorcycle at that time give their opinion and explain what they actually bought. However I doubt many that did go Harley have actually ended up here. * the GW thread is an obvious exception to my train of thought
  7. Luckily it's a technical thread Only a fortnight to go to the shortest day (northern hemisphere) and then it's nearly spring (only if it worked quite like - I'd say that the shortest day wasn't actually the middle of the riders winter due to the delay in heat exchange to/from the earths mass but as I've no scientific evidence or conducted my own research it's just my anecdotal observation I won't) I like your horse it goes nicely with this Any one got any more farm yard smilies?
  8. Thank you for the regards. Is (was) this the move? or just a reconnoiter ? or your new daily commute? Are driving licences/tags etc a straight swap. I used to think of the USA as one country but really it's 50 different ones. Trying to find a parallel with you moving states, it's probably somewhere between me moving to Scotland and another EU country
  9. Welcome Mike Jaap has a how to section here dealing with photos. My last comments on that thread have been made redundant as they now give a resize option on uploading on Photobucket I'm sure that's the same on their free accounts.
  10. I suspect and I claim no personal knowledge in the mater that this picture is not actual a parachute/para-sender. I believe that it is a photoshop over the back ground of another para sender. It is infact Ralph's "love swing" ( I was going to Google in a link but there are so many to chose from I wasn't going to browse through them with Mrs B in the room I don't think she'd approve) Being Ralph's swing he would have intimate knowledge of the gender of the occupant. Infact has anyone met Ralph? Could this actualy be Ralph? Ralph "man in the leather mask" Werner [Cludeo mode] Ralph Werner, in the Dungeon with the "Love Swing"[/Cludeo mode] I think I'll put in for CID next week Sorry Mrs B is watching crime programes on the TV and I got carried away.
  11. They're Transformers, by day mild manner motorcycle tourers but a night they transmogrify in to crime fighting robots. It's true I've seen it on the telly look out coming through Transformer crime fighting movie
  12. Damm yet again I'm late to the party. Each time theres someting a bit contaversal posted it's when I'm away, and you lot seem to argue it out amongst youselves and we get a reasonable end result and I don't have to get the (brand new unused) moderator bat out. I would only take exception to a post that was a vindictive personal attack and would cause hurt or offence to primarily the person it was aimed at. Take for example this topic, Dave got his reply in early. Explained his position and without resorting to any nastiness. The rest of the forum has rallied around him and indicated that GG's position was a very shallow one. Jaap also had his reply. There was no point in any moderating action being taken by me. Occasionally a post gets misconstrued and offence can be taken. I know I've been guilty of this. I don't think that there's anyone here who is intentionally nasty to others. The GW thread comes close with a little bit of name calling and label sticking, but the participants seem to be well entrenched and relatively impervious to this type of shell fire. I hope all the insults aren't in the last 1/3 rd of the posts there because I've normally given up by then But they behave civilly to each other on the technical topics where it really matters. The rest is just a little bit of fun on the side keeping the forum ticking over so that the gurus are here when someone needs help. I missed the posted image, but can well imagine which one it was. Despite being closely associated (see link in sig) I'm big and ugly enough to take it in the spirit it was meant. We had a bit of "fun" last time it was posted. rather than PM or run crying to Jaap, settled for a bit of public discomfort as seemed fitting in context of the thread followed by "no hard feelings etc" The important thing is to remain friends. People can take offence at anything and make it fit their own agenda if they wish. I have been caught up in some of the fallout of this at work, over a joke email. I need counseling as I've obviously no friends and didn't recieve it. Lighten up, it's only the Internet, some people use the anonymity to be obnoxious. Others add a breath of fresh air, we've a common interest here. Use that to get to see life through another persons perspective, it might not change you, but if you can appreciate their point of view so much the better and if you get to meet them at a rally or on a trip, you'd probably find them Just need to address a couple of serious points raised Antonio - despite it raining nearly every ride my bike isn't getting cleaner, what is this wash thing you mentioned? Jim - Bette Midler, cover of the Beatles "In my life" from the film "For the Boys" weepy moment. Watched this film with Mrs B in our early days together - Closest thing we have to Our Tune - not sure which version I prefer. So lay off Bette she's fit for purpose just like our bike of choice- though I know which I prefer to ride
  13. Good that you were able to get down and stretch your legs, not so good about the time management aspects. Happy Birthday, I clocked up my second set of 21 this last week. Since the first set I've treated them as just another day, but the kids like the candles on a cake to blow out. I only had 2 otherwise too much a fire risk. My work colleagues also like cakes but miss out as we've been on early shifts I've brought in croissants instead, crumbs and sticky fingers allover keyboards Tempus fugit Best you get back up that tree now
  14. Isn't that RacerX (Todd)'s Jackal? Good turn out, lots of Guzzis,
  15. The first Mrs Barrett was/is a nurse. At times it was fun, it didn't last - 8 years. I count it as a personal failure. However I wouldn't be where I'm today(12 years on) without going through that, so not all bad.
  16. This thread Jim I've not committed yet to this one yet. Just waiting to make sure it doesn't clash with Ireland. It was the same weekend as the Boxmeer last year but they're not this year. I did it as a 3 day last year and was a lot of motorway slog to do so. Jaaps offered up as a staging post so a 5 dayer makes it look better proposition, take in nicer roads and company on route. A good time with Jaap, Antonio, Chris and Jane last year, good to make acquaintances again, though it was less than a month since I'd seen Chris and Jane . The Germans were friendly as well
  17. Congratulations to Ben ,Mrs Ben and Ben jnr. Welcome to Ben(ette) I've had a trip home in a wheel barrow home once, The weekend before I joined the police and we did get stopped on the way. Apparently could hear the squeak across the whole town. Didn't do to good on " hold on Martin about to turn left" I swung my arm out to indicate and promptly upset the cart dumping myself on the ground. Luckily I was well anaesthetised This was a long time ago, but not so long along ago that it was the reason for the wheel barrow
  18. Welcome Richard. I'm glad that they saved the leg. Is the prognosis for a full function recovery? Keep up the OT a nice stable you have there the V11 should feel at home, despite being 20 years the junior.
  19. and take photos. Don't forget us soggy/snowed in Guzzisti would like to see where you ride and vicariously tag along
  20. What mods did the previous owner do, and what are your plans Van, you take me out of context/misquote me. I do like the Tenni, I just couldn't do that much cleaning
  21. I'm still undecided. I will remain a map and scrappy bits of paper until the price plummets they're just too much for me. There are other priorities. But this weekend there have been a couple of stories in the news- this one is typical http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...amp;expand=true It's the same as all computer stuff - calculators upwards, you have to know what the expected result is or you won't know when it goes wrong or you input wrong data. Some times the machine messes up mostly it just does what you tell it.
  22. I was all set to order some up and then I saw it was for "use in any car" will it work on our motorcycles?
  23. They don't call it total loss lubrication for nothing
  24. Finaly got around to watching this one. Certainly different when compared to the Irish races, the most noticable being through the middle of a town not rural location. How close are the crowd - and a very good turn out it was - behind a line of tape on the edge of the road. Not up a bank or behind a hedge/fence. Bet they don't have many wet races either
