That's a lot of timber! How are those tracks constructed?

The track surface was made with 2X4s laid with the 4" side upright. These were assembled (nailed) side by side and laid in an irregular length for rigidity. This lumber was not finished so you can imagine how rough the surface was.

Timber was I believe used to get a uniform non pot holing surface unlike Brooklands in England
