(1)I would do something a little different with the headlight system.

(2) I hope he sells everyone he can build.

(3) He should hire me to tour the country n promote the bike. I would be a little more negotiable than King James or Albert Pujols............

Not sure about the moped style exhaust though....

 

I read that he needed it to add extra catalyst capacity plus in Japan bikes cannot be certified with the exhaust exiting below a certain level. I take he means to market globally!

 

I will certainly enjoy Buell more now that it is just Erik and no Harley involvement.

I despise projector beam headlamps: they should be banned as they blind other drivers unnecessarily.

 

That "moped style exhaust" is likely built that way to keep the cg of the bike close to but higher than the imaginary line drawn btw the front & rear axles... I very much doubt that Erik Buell would commit such a styling faux pas w/o a solid engineering reason behind, any more so than he did w/ the bikes he built for Harley b4 the mismanagement of the idiots in charge at H-D scuttled him... :thumbsup:

Wasn't commenting on function, just styling. As you say, no doubt with Buell there is a reason for things being what & where they are. I like the look of the small, single headlight but I also don't like the blinding headlights fitted to many modern up market cars.

Position/style of can is fine but connector/tail pipes & mid box look tacky & ugly, at odds with the considered styling of the rest of the bike.

Price is expected to exceed $40,000 for the Carbon Edition, and horsepower is expected to rival that of a Ducati 1098R.

 

The engine carried by that frame is essentially a bored-out version of the 1125R powerplant, now displacing 1190cc. Perhaps more importantly, every one of its reciprocating components has either been replaced with a part from the Buell Superbike program, or a part closely related to such a part. Valves are titanium, the camshafts are straight from the 1125RR Superbike, the connecting rods are machined from forged steel blanks by an American company (rather than the F1-like titanium parts of the 1098R), and the three-ring, 106mm pistons manage to be lighter and stronger than the 103mm forged pistons of the 1125R. A thicker-than-1125R base gasket is used to reduce compression to something suitable for pump gasoline, while its removal allows a very rapid path to full-Superbike tune. The new airbox—autoclave-molded from pre-preg material—is an integral part of the power package, its floor dipping down between the frame rails and encompassing the throttle bodies rather than starting above them. It roughly doubles airbox volume from the 1125R, and allows the bigger engine to develop is full top-end power. In street tune, complying with EPA emission and noise requirements, rear-wheel power will be in the same range as a Ducati 1198. The simple addition of a race pipe and ECU boosts output substantially higher, to something close to that of the 1125RR which Geoff May rode in 2010 AMA Superbike races. That’s not too surprising as the internal parts are so similar; the amazing thing is that EBR was able to get this engine, in this tune, through noise and emission tests. Credit that in part to a very refined fuel map, and two very expensive catalysts in the big main muffler.

 

I'll miss the Harley motor. I rode a Ulysses and one of the cafe bikes and really liked the big twin.

I think you may be confusing projector headlights with HID headlights.

Projector headlights actually focus their light more where it is supposed to go and there is less wasted light going elsewhere like blinding oncoming drivers. So unless your projector beam headlight is miss-aimed it is not likely to blind oncoming drivers. In fact my brothers Triumph headlight is so hard to notice to oncoming traffic that he wants to add less focused headlights to "improve" visibility of himself to oncoming drivers.
