docc
We really didn't want you getting too far away, buddy! Perhaps it is time to raise a new crop of moderators to ease the load on The Chief Whip?
Admin Jaap
Not necessary for me Docc. It's the technical (software) updates that need to be done regurlarly. But I'm up-to-date at the moment. Maybe you need some help?
docc
I've heard it said I could use some help - It's also been said that I'm beyond help . . . Really, about all I do is try to help get topics in the best sub-forum for better response, delete duplicate posts, and try not to let a post go unanswered even if it means a simple bump post on my part. The concerns Zooter came up with on photo hosting and what to do with older dead links I simply could not address.
Zooter
A suggestion for the mods for FAQ type, how to, or otherwise archive worthy photos. Snag PB photos and store offline on the forum server, leaving the PB link intact. When PB drops the ball, upload the stored pic to forum owned PB account and change the link. Maybe someone can get in touch with the board designers to see what the problem is with some mobile devices and the popping photo window not loading PB. If I can get Dominos pizza to sort themselves out so I can order a pizza, surely a forum can be tweaked to play ball with Android?
moto fugazzi
There's Domino's Pizza in NZ? I never would've guessed (I worked for them back in the 80's). Many thanks to JAAP and docc for starting and maintaining this forum! And thanks to all that have contributed over the years. If there's any way I could help out, just let me know. Admin Jaap
@zooter Thanks for your input. Your suggestion could work, but you can surely imagine how much work it is to download all PB pics, store them, make notes to which thread/post they belong and upload them accordingly when PB takes the pics down... Sorry, can't be done by someone with a dayjob. And just don't use PB. you can upload pics here. Plenty server space left.
Zooter
I thought the off site photo hosting was for saving on server traffic bills from all the downloads.
Admin Jaap
True, but there still is a lot of room left (traffic and data) in the hosting bill I now get.
Zooter
That's nice to know. A modified suggestion, ask posters of archive quality stuff to upload to site when it becomes pinned or added to the how to section. Perhaps the forum developers would make a widget for moderators to process a post into archive automatically.
Rhino1
The Canadians finally contacted me. They couldn't make me an offer. Not enough monthly pageviews... Things are going to stay as they are! Good news. Jaap, much as I hate to say this, maybe look into related ads to help supplement the costs--and ask for experienced forum volunteers to help run / administer the site. docc
A whole thread full of volunteers!
Admin Jaap
Thanks for the suggestions, but I will go on as is and keep the forum ad free. Costs are not really a problem. It was just the endless software updates that bugged me. It's all good now and i'm happy to go on!
Jamess
I don't come here very often, but very much value its existence when I want some info for my V11. I frequent many forums on various topics, but this is the only one I actually donate to, because I recognise it's minority specialist stuff and need supported. Do we need to be more vocal about encouraging pressing the donate button?
docc
For sure!
felix42o
Oh thank goodness...I'm currently without a V11, but this site has been so incredibly useful over the past 10 years. I am certainly going to get another one once the finances allow...at the moment I have a vintage Jeep, two airheads and an Aprilia Futura taking up all available finances and space in the garage. Once I can consolidate a couple of those a Stelvio, I will be looking to get another V11 to replace the Tenni. Thanks so much for all the hard work!
