MG Ti exhaust & ECU set-up

Can someone with the MG Titanium exhaust & the ECU confirm if this is a 'fit and go' install, or is any adjustment work meant to be done by a dealer with specialised equipment?

I thought the new ECU should take care of fuel/air changes needed. Someone mentioned that their dealer said that there has to be further set-up to get the right air mixture (exhaust emmission reading?)? I think it was a dealer in England but I can't find the post here.

Is there any further feedback on results and happiness with this set-up, particularly from UK riders? Are you running with OE air filter or have you also changed that. I assume that additional change would then require a Power Commander to get the right mixture.

I would hope that the new ECU would be all that's necessary for the proper running of the bike with the MG cans. I mean, why have a reprogrammed ECU if one has to run the software program for proper tuning? I put a carbon can on my Triumph Daytona and all that was necessary was downloading Triumph's new mapping for that can into the bikes ECU...done, finished, the machine runs great.

I have often thought that if I were going to change mufflers on my LeMans I would go with the MG cans because they come with a re-programmed computer...plug and play, no?

mmm..I don't know the answer. I sort of assumed it would be a plug and play thing, but since I added a Stucci x-over, the mechs said they wanted to make sure everything was tuned and adjusted properly...

fwiw..I LOVE the setup..

As I have posted before, when picking up my new Le Mans, a dealer technician wanted me to look at his V11 with the titanium exhaust and even started it up to let me listen to the sound. He told me that the module came with the kit and he was very satisfied. The only drawback was that the cans were mounted higher than the stock ones (in case I wanted to mount bags etc.). I think that if any further tuning was necessary, he would have told me.

It shouldn't *require* further tuning, but even with the stock ECU and stock pipes, additional tuning is often optimal after delivery from the factory :huh2:

So... it just depends. No harm is done to "dial it in" a bit more after the application of the new pipes and ECU, as each bike is a bit different.

If I had the opportunity to check it out on a gas analyzer, I would. ...but no, it shouldn't be required to run fine.

For all practical purposes, it should be a bolt on affair if the bike was already running fine with the stock setup.

I just installed the kit on my Tenni. I used the stock foot peg hangers so I could still use the saddle bags. They are slightly twisted out but look good and sound great. You do have to readjust the TPS. Start with 0.0 deg (150mv) and adjust to 3.8 deg (550mv) then adjust bypass screws to get your idle ,1/2 turn out. You do need the software and gas analyser to set trim for 4% CO. This kit actually has instructions, even in english. Install your self then bring to you dealer to set the CO. :D

Thanks, very useful. I had wondered about the possibility of twisting to fit stock bracket position – so it has been done.

I don't know about this business of setting the TPS. I have only worked with real carbs before. As for my 'dealer', he doesn't even know about the moly additive that Guzzi say has to be added to final drive lube. I'm still trying to find something suitable, but no one can help. (I actually bought some Wynn's Gear Oil Treatment today: maybe that's the same stuff, but it doesn't say what is in it.)

Could a car garage with exhaust analyser set the TPS just as easily as a 'proper' MGuzzi garage?

K&N Analyser, as found on site that Jonathan referred to in Filters thread.

Maybe this would do the trick, though it's too expensive for limited use.

Mph is also a Benz & BMW car repair place & thats what they use. He also has the moly additive, but with the synthetic gear lubes this is really not needed, but & always the but so I wont start a oil thread it cant hurt

You don't need a gas analyser to set the TPS, only a digital multi-meter. You do need the Marelli Soft ware (Techno research) to set the trim CO. Guzzi has thier own gear oil that already has the moly in it. If you use GL5 rated gear oil you don't need moly.

Now we're getting somewhere.

That's good news on the fluid front.

Belfastguzzi,

Like you I have always had carbs. I think it's worth getting someone who knows what they're doin set up th FI. My Scura was pretty good but a bit flat at 4k & hesitant on a trailing throttle about 5K revs. Still I thought it was running pretty good & from what I've seen here was worried if a dealer messed with it it'd only worse. Baldrick at Corsa Italiana tweaked it & although it's still a little flat at 4 it pulls clean thru to red line & back now. I was impressed. Components are std.

I've been waiting on Ti cans/ECU for weeks - no sign. If I ever get them I'll be back to London to have FI optimised again. Where will you order from?

Cheers, KB :sun:

I've been waiting on Ti cans/ECU

:notworthy: Really – You've ordered!

I wondered if there would be a delivery problem.

I've been meaning to e-mail Motomecca to ask about fitting requirements, availability & price. (Was too busy tonight, clocking up 1,000 miles.)

Don't know where else. No point in local 'dealer' really, as they will probably order from Motomecca anyway. Where did you order?

So you've had that bother around 5k rpm too.

Presumably you have seen & heard other options and considered them?

I haven't, of course.

Another question: how was your tuning done. Was it the TPS business?
