The crossover was just to complete the iconic happy smiling face look of the later V11s coming at you on the road😃

I don't have any personal "before and after" experience, only hearsay. What I have read, over and over, is that Guzzi's run better with a crossover. :huh2:

PS: as @Tomchri mentione, getting the alternator cover off is a pain. I've considered making a hole in it with an easily removable cover in the middle to be able to get to the bolt in the alternator to turn over the motor for doing valve clearance and such. Might still happen, but the plan isn't fully ripened yet. B)

But one crossover or two? All the V11s have a cross-over in the mid-section. Only the 2003 and 2004 models have a second crossover up front (sometimes called a balance pipe). I don't know what problem they were trying to solve by adding second crossover, but it's not the kind of thing you would do just for looks, maintenance convenience, assembly efficiency, or weight-savings, because it works against all of those things. Maybe it was an attempt to reduce the noise level?

And what did we do back early seventy's mounting a new double exhaust on a 440.  Putting stripe of white chalk on the pipes and go for a spirited drive. The spot on the pipe with most evidence  of heat was where the crossover was mounted.      Seemed correct at the time.

Crossover on the headers, NOISE reason.

Cheers Tom.

This crossover does a type of function similar to the two-stroke world of expansion chambers (exhaust system) . It all has to do w/exhaust pulses.

Correct !  At least I can't feel any difference between a V11 with 1 or 2 crossovers.

Cheers Tom.
