OK when the clutch is pulled in....Heavy machine gun 'clat clat clat' that you have to raise your voice to be heard over when the lever is released. Thrust bearing on the way out or what do you think, please. There is 5,500miles on the clock. Not so happy! Any diagnosis / remedy would be most welcome. Nige. <_> I likely have fewer wrench skills than Jaap , but I had a similar scare and found out I wasn't really in neutral. Know that sounds stupid (and maybe is) but double check to ensure it really is in neutral or will get an OMG sound. Best wishes until you hear from someone who knows what they are doing. The fact that it still makes the noise when the clutch is pulled in leads me to believe it's the thrust (throw out) bearing. They're noisy devils when they go out. It's been awhile since I've had a bearing problem with a bike or car, but I do remember that it will generally change pitch in sound when the clutch is pulled in. Sometimes the sounds stop all together like in your case, or sometimes it's just a bit quieter. In my last case it sounded like a washing machine with the clutch out – when I pulled it in then this whirring sound slowly subsided to a constant low clatter. Bearings are funny – they're quite, they're loud. Still sounds sadly like you're gonna have to pull the motor. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Baldini Posted July 17, 2004 Share Posted July 17, 2004 Ballacraine, Scura clutches are hellish noisy in neutral clutch engaged, some noisier than others. Quietens when you disengage clutch. What you describe sounds normal... only a lot louder... Is it all working OK? There may be nothing wrong but there have been a couple of people had problems with flywheel, preceded by abnormal noises.... Can you contact the previous owner, check history? He is surprised by this & has offered to sort it out. It is OK when cold but gets noisier quite quickly. It works fine. By the time I had ridden the 30miles home, it was so noisy you had to shout over it to make yourself heard! <_> When you mention flywheel problems...What exactly? Is it safe to keep using it? Nige. Guest vkerrigan Posted July 17, 2004 Share Posted July 17, 2004 I only know what I've picked up on the various boards, but I believe the Scura & Tenni had dual plate clutches rather than the single of the LeMans, etc. Again, from board discussions, there seems to be many more problems with the dual plate than the single. In fact, on WildGuzzi several people have converted to single plate from the dual (although its mostly cruisers there). I would defer to others on this forum who know more, but if you end up having your dealer tear it down, you may want to consider a conversion to a single plate clutch........vk Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
