Admin Jaap
When I drink single malt, it's a 18 yr. Highland Park. Very smooth. I'm not that fond of the iodine smell and taste of the peaty stuff. But I prefer old dark rum to be honest. Link to comment
Denis
Might have to sample the Jura again..... purely on the basis of repeating the initial sampling work. Wouldn't want to draw any false conclusions..... Link to comment

mznyc
Despite the lack of thrilling motorcycling roads, the isles are very much a worthwhile destination: I'm off up to visit my pal in Kilmarnock in a couple of weeks for a jaunt over to Skye- he says it's breathtakingly lovely. Also hoping to ride the A9 before they turn the speed cameras on! My GF is in Kilmaurs and we went up to Skye for a few days a while back.Unfortunately in a car.Stunning scenery.Recommend,Plockton Inn (bartender hooked us up with an awesome SM),Skye Brewery and the pub by the docks in Portree.Frequented by the local fisherman, lotta color and laughs and fine malts.Summer is busy and Midge infested but still couldn't recommend it any higher.Probably a DS'ers paradise. https://www.google.com/search?q=skye&client=firefox-a&hs=YBw&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=AwSqU8P2LNHroATo0YHoDA&ved=0CEIQsAQ Link to comment
gavo
Currently enjoying Laphroaig Quarter Cask and Glenmorangie (10yr old) I'm far from a whisky expert but it's been my first choice for the last 35 of my 58yrs. I love Glenmoranngie but tried some Laphroaig and felt like I'd licked an ashtray, overdid the smokey flavour lol Link to comment

Twocati
I'm fond of Cardhu and 15 year Dalwhinnie but I do like a few Bourbons too. Buffalo Trace is a current fave. Cheers! Marty Link to comment
Denis
My son bought me a bottle of Buffalo Trace as a present for picking him up from finishing his 4 year University degree ( 400 mile round trip). Penderyn single malt distillery use the empty Buffalo Trace casks to store their whisky in to mature. So we were both interested in Buffalo Trace. We both liked it, my son more so than me, nice bourbon. Link to comment
docc
Interesting testimony to the clever Scots that American bourbon must be aged in new oak that is often (so I've "heard") owned by the scotch distillers and leased to the American distillers. The thrifty Scots then get the barrels at a reduced cost with free extra flavors! Link to comment

Denis
Hi docc, Penderyn single malt is distilled in Wales, only about 20 miles from where I live. I pass the distillery on my way out to Mid Wales, even had the factory tour etc. My work involves understanding filtration and distillation, I know the people who supply the filters and we have a still in my place of work. Good Welsh whisky ( I believe it is the only Welsh brand). Link to comment
docc
Denis, I've had a couple single malts that aren't "scotch." The Japanese Yamazaki is very nice, smooth without any bite; reminds me of the Highland Park that classy gentlemen prefer . From Oregon, USA, McCarthy's has a bit more of the smokiness I prefer (Even though they threw an "e" into the whisky ) The Islays draw me in otherwise - Laphroaig or Lagavulin. I wonder if the Welsh single malt is in the States. How would you describe its character? Link to comment

jwh20
It seems there is absolutely no consensus here. I recommend that further testing is necessary! Link to comment
