  3. Thanks Kiwi_Roy. I'm fairly sure I'll have to study your advise a few times to make this work but it's one of the improvements I'm hoping to make. First on my V11 Sport then on Griso.

  4. Yesterday I looked on this excellent forum for any ideas that may explain poor cranking and starter performance that rather suddenly appeared when I tried starting in the morning after a fairly cold night (around 6deg.C 43F) a few weeks ago. I first assumed that, after 5 seasons my LiPO battery was starting to age and with the cold and higher oil viscosity that this was the problem so I bought a new battery. The effect seemed to be temperature related; always being a problem when cold starting. The new battery didn't cure the problem; hence my looking at the forum. There didn't seem to be a dedicated topic focused on exactly this problem, hence this new specific topic, but by various searches i did find a few ideas, even one that reported a similar problem because they had put in 20W-40 oil rather than the recommended 5W-40 oil and this became a problem on a cold day. In fact I made a list of all the possible options and there are lots, (battery, starter, starter contactor, connections etc. including the possibility of the magnets becoming demagnetised (on a Ferrari forum), but obviously the most likely was a poor connection so I stripped down all the connections between battery and starter, including the heavy duty earth cable that fixes to the gearbox casing, cleaned them, added corrosion protective grease and reattached but really didn't see anything that gave me the slightest concern. However, on dismantling I did take off the insulated spade terminal that supplies the voltage to the starter contactor and it didn't feel a tight push-on. I used pliers to compress the jaws of the female insulated terminal, cleaned up the spade that emerges from the starter contactor next to the large +ve starter terminal and reattached. Problem solved! Obviously high resistance to the contactor coil can cause the contactor to pull in rather weakly, leading to high resistance in the main starter contacts and a weak start. I am putting this experience out just in case anyone has a similar problem. It might be useful for others to add their own experiences associated with solving the problem of the starter motor working but having difficulty in cranking the engine as quickly as normal.

  5. Thank you for the clarification! Even tho he didn't pen them, I doubt the boss would have approved the later designs if he didn't agree with them. I've always been torn between my 1200 Sport and the Griso as to which design I prefer. Mike

  6. My top 3 would be aV11 sport greenie, a later V11 sport black or the maroon tank, I think they had one in 03-04. And then a Nero Corsa

  7. Beautiful design is a big part of a bike's appeal to me. I currently own 2 Guzzi's designed by Marabese: a 1200 Sport and a V11 LeMans. I also own a LeMans 3 which Marabese has said is his personal Guzzi. "You know, even though I design for Aprilia, Laverda and others, and in my life I have had about thirty different bikes, that's it: the Guzzi is the only one I still have in my heart. I still enjoy today with my 850 Le Mans." http://archivio.animaguzzista.com/maestri/marabese/marabese.htm My question for you Marabese aficionado's is this: if you could have 3 Marabese Guzzi's what would they be? Here are the options: Centauro V11 Sport V11 LeMans Breve 750 Breva 1100 Breva 1200 Sport Griso Norge Thanks for your thoughts! Mike

  9. Luciano Marabese would certainly approve of efforts to "tidy" the tail of his V11 design. From the excellent AnimaGuzzista interview, September 2002: Marabese: "Ma ha visto quel’ quel paracadute di portatarga che han messo sul codone del V11? Ma quello me l’han piazzato dove fuggono tutti i flussi d’aria. Un semplice pezzo montato a caso che poi ti leva 4 cavalli alla moto!" [" But did you see that plate holder parachute they put on the tail of the V11? But that was placed for me where all the air flows escape. A simple piece assembled at random which then takes 4 horsepower off the bike!"]

  10. Wendy Pirsig has donated the Super Hawk to the Smithsonian. "Bob’s philosophy explored human values, and he aimed to show how quality is actually at the center of all existence,” Wendy Pirsig says. “It seems consistent with this focus on quality that his motorcycle collection joins the nation’s exemplary history museum at the Smithsonian.” https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/cycle-zen-art-and-motorcycle-maintenance-comes-smithsonian-180973836/ [Not exactly "breaking news" as the Smithsonian article is a year old, but it's the first I've heard of it.]

  11. First time playing with Guzzidiag. Saved a copy of the map, then used Tunerpro to turn the Lambda probe off. Reloaded the map and CO has changed from -128 to "0". Yay it worked. Set TPS to 157mv following the "Decent Tune Up" instruction. It was 80mv. Balanced the Throttle bodies with the Motion Pro tool. They were a little out. Set the idle and now ready to go. Prior to this I had set the valves and installed new plugs. So once I have repaired the headlight lens retaining screw setup I will be back on the road after a long period of maintenance. The bike should run a hell of a lot better now. I have a PCIII sitting on the shelf so now the Lambda is turned off I may use this and get adjusted on the dyno. This has my first time playing with the TPS and TB's. I have always carried out all other maintenance on my bikes and I have owned a few Ducatis
