  1. FWIW, I didn't have to knock off those captive fasteners which are part of the bike's rear bracket supporting the mudguard, license plate frame, etc. It was helpful to take the HB bolts and take advantage of the captive fasteners to make a cross brace/rear bracket "assembly" and then use the HB nuts to fasten it to the bike's frame. With everything loosely attached (rotated Ti exhaust, stock passenger brackets, both side brackets for the HB bags, turn signal relocation bar) everything lines up!  :rasta:

  2. Sure, if you've got some time, I'd be interested in cross brace pics and its orientation. Does the "open" side of the L shape that attaches to the existing bracket face forward or backward? It appears to me it can go either way. Email is leroysch@aol.com if you run into posting problems. Thanks!

  3. Spent an embarrassingly long time trying to figure out where the cross brace on the HB attaches to the frame. Still not sure what direction it needs to "point", guess there's a 50-50 chance I'll be right the first time. Thought I'd never get one of the pipes between the cross-over and Ti can to loosen. Amazed me what a few drops of 3 in 1 oil and a few gentle mallet taps did. Went from not budging to sliding right off in a minute or so. Note to self: don't forget the anti-seize!

    Hi John-

Yes, I'm in Neosho north of town out in the sticks. I met someone from WG at the Undercliff (Tipton Ford, closed and for sale BTW) early last year. I was on the Duck, and the gentleman I was talking to was on a..well...delightfully ratty MG.

No, I haven't met the "local" gang yet...just acquired the MG at the end of last summer. I am planning on heading up to Cedar Vale in April but if you're around/about the area I've got a 100 mile loop which always makes me smile no matter what I'm riding. Spare bedroom/bath too for logistical support. 417-434-0867

Looks like a Guzzi meet up in Huntsville Ark at the  Withrow Springs State park this weekend.

I am on the fence but if I go I'll stay in the motel (don't feel like camping).  It's 300 mile trip for me.

In fact Dusty (Cedar Vale fame) is putting this weekend campout together.  I'm usually at Cedar Vale, we also do a meet up in Springfield (MO) to ride the Springfield (IL) Mile.  I've done the Undercliff at Tipton Ford too but it's a long ways for a lunch ride.

I usually make a trip or two to the Ozarks every year.  I'd like to ride your 100 mile loop. Perhaps I'll see you soon?

Saw that. Going to get the V11 safety inspected tomorrow and head down that way to say hello. Looking forward to meeting you at CV. I'll be the sissy looking for lodging thereabouts.....

  6. A. Learned the MG can stay off the battery tender longer than the Duck and Buell and start with no problems.

    B. Subsequent ride cut short when the fastener holding the bracket holding the front brake master cylinder went MIA.

Shouldn't have worn an HD tee I guess.......

  7. I really wanted one of them, but financially I could not do it as we were in the middle of buying a house.

There was a brief period where they were stupid cheap, and I regret not being able to buy one at that time.

I had an older X1, I regret selling it. I came close to buying one of the new Buell Cafe bikes, but a house had to come first.

I did put up a bit of a fight. Noticed the big markdowns on Buell's going while going in to the dealership to buy some Street Glide parts in 2009. I guess my "Hmmm...." must have been audible, cuz the salesman called the next day offering to take another grand off the price!

    Understand about the priority thing.....

  8. I was just reading about EDM holes for oiling. One thing that was clear from what I read was to make sure the part they put the EDM hole into is thoroughly cleaned. It (EDM) makes a lot of debris when it is making the hole. Failure to clean the debris out before putting in service can result in failure.

Is that the Rotax based motor?

Yes it is, which got my attention when the 1125's first came out. Figured it took some balls to outsource the motor while Buell was part of HD. When they had the fire sale on Buell's after HD decided to shut it down...I couldn't resist.

  9. Looked at it longingly as I was continuing to re-assemble the Buell. It's an '09 which have a penchant to burn up stators. I'm now on number 3 in 12000 miles. Luckily I acquired a rotor mod from Eric Buell Racing before they closed with an EDM'd hole to increase oil flow/cooling. That, along with a stator from Rick's Electric (and some fingers crossed for luck) should get this beast mobile once more.

  10. That dealership is where I found my V11. It was a consignment sale so the dealership in my case was the middle-man. FWIW, they were responsive/helpful in the process of straightening out the paperwork, coordinating with the carrier I had contracted with to ship the bike, etc.

Still seems kinda pricey even given the low miles.

  11. Thanks for the observations. I've only briefly looked under the seat of my recently acquired 2004 V11 LeMans, (the weather stayed nice..needed to put some miles on her) but I did notice some scuffing on the forward corners of the battery.

  12. The MG Ti exhaust can be mounted high with the short passenger peg mounts, or low with the stock passenger peg mounts which will allow you to use the HB hard bags or the factory soft bags.

I use Cortech soft bags without frames with the high mounts.  Here's an old pic that will give you some idea of how they fit.

I saw your setup searching this site. Nice. I've got an identical setup which I've used on the Buell, but was looking for something with more capacity. Oh...and the ones I've got are blue. Look great on the white/blue Buell, but on my MG....let's just say the battle between practicality and aesthetics has not yet been resolved!

Tom - I didn't know they could be mounted high or low. I guess that also means the stock exhaust can be mounted high if the high-hangers are used. That exhaust looks great with the silver porkchops - no, let's call them titanium porkchops... BTW - what did you do to get the header pipes to be so clean and silver?

As Mark mentioned, stock had longer passenger peg brackets...and I have a vague understanding that the mount was more like a tab. Saw a post somewhere that a height change via using the stock brackets, repositioning the loops, and rotating the crossover provides clearance for HB type luggage with the Ti exhaust. Downside was that a poster mentioned can scratches from the loops already are there and will occur when repositioned. In any event, a guy on wildguzzi was parting out a V11 and I scored a pair of the longer brackets from him.

Op. cit. my previous comment on practicality vs aesthetics!

  13. Thanks for the ideas.

JRD, That staggering price is exactly the reason I'm trying to establish whether they'll fit before shelling out that amount of coin.

Scud, thanks for pointing out the tip-to-tip dimension on the Ti pipes is less than stock....I had only been concerned about pipe-to-bag clearance. Makes me wonder if the metal bracketry will also be an issue.

Steve S, thanks for the Ventura clue. I had not heard of them before..and the fact that their Aero line can interconnect with each other sounds intriguing.....

  14. This bike (2004 LeMans) is a total pleasure, i.e., awesome. Purchased with 4700 miles on the clock, I've put enough miles on it to want to equip it for road trip duty. I've been looking at the hepco-becker 30liter setup but the Ti cans look to me to run the risk of being too high and interfering with the bags/rack. Other bikes that appear to have this exhaust, images that I've pulled off the internet, don't seem to have such skyscraperish height at the back of the bike. Can any of you fine folks assess the likelihood of an interference with the hepco-becker setup and/or provide me any enlightenment as to why these appear to me to be "different"? Thanks!

  15. Thanks guys...what a treat it was/is to ride. That frame twist at idle was novel...and I swear I could feel the same thing gassing it leaned over in the curves. Very unique! I need to spend some serious seat time on it to see if the ergos support making this the weapon of choice for serious road trip sport touring.

BMWDavid-An '02 AND an '03? I get it. FWIW, I'm working out-of-state and staying in Washington, IN (I see that you're in SW IN), on a weekend layover I was surprised to see a MG dealership in Robinson, IL. Spent some time there during a weekend I was stuck away from home...they're good people there.

  16. The 2004 V11 LeMans finally arrived safe and sound. And quite the journey it was. Sold on consignment by a CA dealership, the NV title had never been transferred to the current owner...I suspect because it's a non-CA bike with less than 7500 miles on it, apparently a criteria for used bikes being registered in CA. Gave me some pause for thought, but it all worked out.

Shipment was flawless from CA to MO, it was even delivered early. I used CW Haul, who bid on the job via the uship website. Highly recommend.

I had arranged for the local HD dealership to take delivery since I've been working out of state and they were kind enough to receive her. Thanks Hideout!

Getting back home, the mad dash of getting safety inspections, titling, registration, and insurance all squared away got done. First bike I own that requires the clutch to be in while in neutral to start it..but got that figured out relatively quickly...as did the no flashie on the LH turn signal. Didn't have to hit me over the head once is saw a wire swinging in the breeze inside the fairing. Phew!

At the time of purchase, had 4700 miles on her. Found ads for her from 2013 while she was at a dealership in Washington "doing the Google". She's been tweaked with a carbon fiber front fender, the apparently Ti exhaust, matte Ag powdercoating (?) on the headers, an Ohlins rear shock..are the major things I'm aware of.

The ride today added 2% to her lifetime mileage and it was great. Seems like the previous owner's suspension settings are dialed in for me to. It rode so well, I'm going to have to revisit the settings on my other  bikes.

Unfortunately, I'm back working out of state next week...so I'll only have her pics to keep me company.
