  1. You can also use a Crampbuster, I find this indispensable on all of my bikes to eliminate any wrist cramping, but it also tends to isolate some of the vibes to the palm of the hand, not the fingers or wrist.  On the other hand a well tuned V11 should be pleasant to ride at that rpm level, so I'd get quite a few more rides in to see if it's really behaving oddly or just a question of bonding with the bike.

However, above 6k and on up, the bike does smooth out a lot...just depends if you like to ride at higher RPM's or not...I'll call this hooligan territory for lack of a better word as the responsiveness is instantaneous, but I'm sure you're used to that also with the Ducatis.

Either way, it's fun figuring it out and tinkering, as long as there are no bolts loose anywhere, and these bikes do require inspection of every bolt on a regular basis as I've been told by Chuck, Mike at MPH and others...and it's true!

  2. A cool 45 this morning…blue skies…after a nice breakfast with the family, had to get the Scura out of the barn to run a bit.  Stopped at one of my usual places for a piece of genuine Texas Pecan pie and felt that my Scura has shrunk in size compared to these modern day behemoths!

Super nice ride, lots of motos on the road today, twisties galore thru the forest roads.

Have to say thanks to Kindoy for the wonderful Alcantara seat he sent me…super nice on these cool days and very comfortable!

  3. Ahem…today in fact right here in Houston…nice and cool ride on the Scura, after all it’s only in the 50’s!  After a week in Wisconsin where it dipped well below zero, this feels positively balmy.   We ride all the way down to just above freezing, and the hot coffee tastes even better when stopped for a break.  Good riding gear makes it quite comfortable.  A balaclava helps too…and the right pair of gloves.    I wouldn’t ride if it’s icy, but just cold is still very enjoyable.

Maybe time to consider a backup generator…Generac or Kohler…life saver during a hurricane or a winter power outage.   I put one in after Hurricane Harvey, it’s kicked on several times, including those occasions when transformers have blown in the neighborhood…

  4. Wild question:  Does anyone know if the gold handlebars on the Coppa or Scura R models are in fact made by Rizoma or are they some other brand?

While I wouldn't change the clip-ons on the Scura as they are extremely comfortable, the gold color does match nicely with the gold Ohlins shocks, reservoir for rear shock, and gold Pazzo levers and Rizoma fluid containers.    Curious to see the dimensions of these handlebars compared to the stock Griso one, which I find just a bit too wide by a couple of inches...assuming that it is the same diameter and could be retro-fitted to the Griso...more projects to ponder!

So at this point, have we concluded there are no Scura R's in the US?

  5. Thanks P6!  Yes, had a chance to read a portion of that online, quite a few places to try out, even one relatively close by in Tomball.  We had a great ride out, unfortunately the place in Giddings was closed, so we found another spot for lunch nearby.

Was a nice run, about 240 miles round trip, we did a few stops along the way, Newman’s in Belleville, Orsaks in Fayetteville and lunch in Giddings.

While the weather is nice , we’ll keep riding…will post up here so you can join as your schedule permits!

    Cheers…

  6. A few folks will ride out to Giddings this Sunday to meet there around noon at Outlaws BBQ.  Getting to Snow's up in Lexington just up the road would mean standing in line for 3 hours, so we're opting for a different place, but we might ride up to Lexington after lunch before heading home.

Will be a mix of Guzzi, BMW, Yamaha and maybe a few others...

If anyone wants to join, please come out.

  7. Just an FYI...I recently mounted my rear rack that I'd had hanging up in the garage for a couple of years, and found that i needed slightly longer screws to get enough purchase when mounting the brackets, but they were easy enough to find at my local ACE hardware store (hex head and recessed).

Given that it's a Scura, I ended up painting my rack black, and just got the rear bag from Stein Dinse as well to finish up the install.    Looks quite nice in my view!

From the picture above, it looks like all the parts are there.

You may want to post a "wanted" ad on Wildguzzi as well, a kind soul in Iowa helped me locate mine after I had posted wanting to locate one.

  8. Decibullz are a very good alternative - they are more effective than standard plugs given they have a pressure column that reduces that "dead" zone with standard plugs.  Have been using these now for several years, before that Silicone swimmer's plugs, which are also moldable and soft, both are very good for avoiding that pain/pressure that comes from having the helmet press on the plug.

As smooth as the air is on the Scura, I couldn't ride several hours w/o earplugs, I think it would be painful with the wind noise.

Totally forgotten to ask: Does the installation of the Roper Plate interfere with the dipstick/thermometer? Any clearance issues for those that have both installed on the same V11?

Just got my Roper Plate today. Shout-out to Pressure Angle for the fair price and fast shipping. Thank you!

None...I have the Roper plate installed, no issues at all.

  10. If you’re truly offering , I’ll take 15 tins, we could have a Houston Sardine Spine raid!  I’ll stop and get a few fresh baguettes, some butter and rope in a few other local Guzzi riders…could do a ride and hand off the loot….

Let me know when you require payment…thanks!

    Merci en avance!

This disparity would make me want to increase the rear tire pressure (within reason) and monitor the change in temperature.  On the contrary, perhaps the front pressure is too high and should be brought down a notch. A little of each? Or just of no practical consequence at all?

Could be Docc!  It's possible...I may experiment a bit.  On the Norge I like to run cold 40/40 psi both front and back, gives me the traction, mileage and tread wear life that I like.  I know some folks on their Norges or Stelvios like to run 36/40 or 34/38.  Have never had a blowout or any sort of tire failure, so I'm assuming it's always been this way.  Will be curious to see once the external temps drop down here in the next couple of months whether the temp differential remains the same or varies.
