    Hey PJPR01,

So, did you go any further with your headlamp situation?  My super cheap, brand X, led bulb failed after a couple months, I presently have no operable headlamp but the (sylvania) led pilot works great.  Anyway, I was wondering if one of those 7" round led lamp assemblies will fit the lemans without having to do mods to the bucket or retaining bezel.

    Thanks,

    Art

    Hi Art,

I was successful in opening the headlight...quite easy to do.  I did JB Weld the broken diffuser and it worked for a few hundred miles and then broke again from normal road vibrations, so unfortunately it's rattling around inside the headlight again. Opening the headlight is quite easy, not hard at all to do.  I will try again and see if I can find a better material to use to bond the piece together...barring that I may just leave it off.  I'm not doing much night riding on the Scura anyway, so it's not critical...but I think the Stein Dinse option is the better one for a long term fix!

One thing I noticed when taking the headlight out was the two bolts holding it in were different, so off to ACE hardware to get a nice new set of matching black bolts...

  2. P6x…I found that leaving the IPhone in my jacket pocket I could easily control the the volume if needed…I keep The music low enough just to have some company.  At one point long ago I did have a remote Bluetooth device within easy reach wrapped around a mirror stem, but decided against that even though I would really only use it at a stop and not while riding.  The Slimbuds are so comfortable that even without music they are excellent wind protection.

When I get tired of music I swap them out for the Decibullz…which also have multiple Ear foam sizes for a perfect fit and the tube that goes thru them solves the issue you raise.

plus they also come in many vibrant colors so they are easy to see in case you also have vision issues!!

i couldn’t ride without ear protection, it’s physically exhausting after a short period of time and too painful.  With great ear protection all day riding is a pleasure…not a chore.

  3. 3 really good items I use regularly:

Slimbuds - wireless, bluetooth, exceptionally soft comfortable and low profile...all day comfort, can stream music for some company, but also great at blocking wind noise

Decibullz - custom molded earplugs for $25...soak the plastic in boiling hot water, mold to your ears, has a tube going thru to eliminate the odd feeling of being in a tunnel and reduces the pressure, also fits flush, no pressure on ear drum, all day comfort.

Silicone Swimmer Ear Plugs - if you want truly quite, full seal, but can still hear vehicles, but zero wind noise...also easy to use, especially on warm days...

  4. Racing w/o rules...sounds like a recipe for disaster....oh wait...we already have that!  We have rules and lots of crashes already as the riders go right up to the edge, and over all of the time.

I think for safety reasons, creating a non paved area would lead to more injuries....not great.

But at the end of the day...Marquez does seem to be finished...the accumulation both physical and mental of the injuries along with what appears to be an even more reckless style of riding is taking its toll on him and other riders.  He probably thinks he has a few more seasons in him, but the results don't suggest it...a bit like Tiger Woods...may win from time to time but not nearly as consistently as in the past.

  5. yeah yeah...ipso facto and cogito ergo sum...

4 years of Latin in school...got to love Caesar and The Gallic wars and a bit of Cicero.  Fond memories of Declensions and Conjugations, Tenses, Moods etc...

Just to piss off our old Irish, ex priest Latin teacher, we'd all sing from time to time:

    Latin is a language

As dead as dead can be

    First it killed Caesar

    and Now it's killing me!

  6. In this wonderful triple digit temps that we enjoy here in Texas, what I found most comfortable:

Long sleeve Cooling shirt (Coolibar brand, there are others) with UPF 50 sun protection , either doused with water or kept in the fridge overnight, underneath a mesh jacket to allow a "cooling" sensation and refresh it 1 x per hour by pouring a bottle of water on front and back.

Similar process and refresh cadence 1 x hour with a headcap (LD comfort cap) also doused in cold water and put on the head, venting on helmet provides the A/C effect.

Black leather would probably cause a major heatstroke in these conditions...using the layering/cooling effect like folks who live in the desert to protect against the dehydration impact.

Ironically, above approx 90F, mesh jackets by themselves can cause more dehydration, hence the use of the wet cooling shirt layer....works perfectly.

I am running MacOS Catalina 10.15.7; this is the highest version that can be installed on this 10 years old MacBook Pro equipped with an 2.4 GHz Intel I5.

When I launched GuzziDiag V 0.47, it does not auto format for my screen size. Part of the window is outside of real estate, and the window size cannot be adjusted. But it launches without crashing.

The view button does not work either.

Probably easier to purchase an old MS based computer.

Much easier to get a Windows Laptop...after finding the port, it's a piece of cake to work it.

  8. All the dash lights can be converted to LED, with the exception of the one that governs the turn signals/blinkers...those only work on 1 side if converted to LED.  But having brighter LED's on the rest of the dash lights (and coupled with the jeweled screen) really is a nice modernization touch.

  9. I hope it turns out to be a good one.  If I can make one route suggestion that I can guarantee will put a massive smile on your face and memories for years…when you do decide to ride it back…head north from Boise to Lewiston and then ride to Lolo, Montana along highway 12…truly one of the most beautiful rides in the country.  Follows the Lewis & Clark trail.  An overnight stop near Or past Kooskia will be legendary.  From there, head to Red Lodge Montana and ride the Beartooth highway into Wyoming to the top of Yellowstone, then take the Chief Joseph scenic highway to Cody, Wyoming.  Heading south from Cody thru Thermopolis you will go thru the Wind River canyon, another very scenic stretch before the wide open and windy plains of Wyoming.

its all downhill from there on a wonderful ride thru Wyoming, Utah (Dinosaur monument), and needless to say Colorado is unlimited in amazing roads.

    Hope it’s a good one!!

Hmm, I seemed to have forgot, my very first street bike was a V4, 1985 Honda Interceptor 500. That bike was terrific!

Lovely bike...a friend had a 1000 Interceptor also back in 1985/86 that he let me ride often enough while I was at the university.  I've often thought about finding one again...that bike was intoxicating, smooth and far too fast!  Ripping around the streets of La Jolla and surrounding San Diego towns on it was amazing!

  11. From very recent experience, be careful getting DeOxit on the soft rubber seals (like the one on the TPS) or the ones connecting ECU's on later CARC bikes as the chemicals cause the rubber to swell, which then get pinched when snapping the connector back in place, and then frequently cause a tear or not completely seated seal.
