Love my road 5’s. Ran them on previous bikes, and hadn’t really thought of them as ideal for the V11 but they came already freshly installed on Red when i bought her. The slightly stiffer suspension on Goldie (grade of oil used up front) and the bridgestones vs red with the michelin 5’s makes for a difference that is obvious every time when swapping between otherwise identical bikes. “Better/worse” would be in the opinion of each rider, but for me the slightly softer suspended, Michelin clad Red Lemans is much preferred. Grim - I’d venture a guess on your relay situation that perhaps the weather was just right after you changed the relays and got the “turbine like” running. There are certainly days when a well tuned v11 will purr more perfectly than in other temp/weather conditions.

I carried same socket for that single nut on my “old” 2010 multistrada, and never had a problem getting a road change done. That said, I ended up both times at bmw shops and paid dearly for the service. in the one case I had misjudged the remaining miles on the old tire and had to do an un-scheduled tire change. I had sent a tire ahead of me (drop ship) to Durango, and was just a couple hundred miles short of there when seemingly all-of-a-sudden the center patch went from thin-but-still-with-tread pattern to about 50% cord showing (Pirelli). Ended up Paying retail-plus for the new tire, and then a hefty shop rate, painful, but having the socket made it all easy. The other time was a good old fashioned flat, but similar fix situation. So, i guess I’d say “easy but expensive”, using a BMW dealer.

Maybe not relevant or apples-to-apples, but my old ‘99 Cagiva/Ducati 904cc with mosfet and upgraded wiring+connectors+grounding, doesn’t go green till probably 2000rpm or so. The odyssey in that bike is probably about 9yrs old now.

Phil, what did you use as the medium/liquid? I picked up one of these this winter, but haven’t used it yet. Was thinking the flat slide would be a good candidate.
-
Hmm. I’ve got a gallon of that in the shop, awaiting my flat slide carb from my old-ish DR350.

Thanks scud- Looks like it just sold.... I’m in zero rush, so if you’re still game and I’ve struck out by fall maybe I’d buy yours? Also, We’re down in your neck of the woods regularly during fire season. In fact I’ll be at Van nuys and San Diego briefly today, and then by late season seems as though we usually spend a lot of time at San Bernardino fire base, so lots of ways to look at skipping the shipping hassle. Cheers

Thanks all for the quick answers. Fellow has one on eBay, and looks like $40. I’ll buy yours instead scud if you’re looking to make room in the garage, or i can go for this eBay deal. cheers

I assume the airbox from an 04 lemans won’t fit in a 2000 sport, due to the slightly different frame length? Looking to buy an eBay airbox for greenie which now has pods from PO.

What’s the story behind that setup?

Thx docc- i had come up with another web address, apparently and older one, that was a dead end. That one works. MGcycles appears to be a dealer, but almost nothing listed in stock. Grazie!

Any hot tips on where to source stucchi (Luigi?) screens? Web search is bringing up a lot of nebulous stuff.
-
Reviving thread, as an initial search from iPhone didn’t give me other hot thread leads on this... for v11 sport fly screens, to add one, what’s the scoop on whether they’re available, options, etc. I’ll watch eBay, but assuming there are other options folks have figured out they like. And I’ll search more forum content, but title searches didn’t give me much yet.... cheers

Does this celebration explain why I’m not getting an answer from Agostonis about renting a V85 when I’m there in late September.... because it’ll be swarmed with guzzi people already? Maybe I’ll have to rent a German bike when I visit mandello again. Is that legal, or contrary to some papal proclamation? Nothing a few Hail Marys won’t fix I suppose...

+1 Took a friends 140 for a spin yrs ago to exercise it, not realizing in my youth that a sump drain located mid tank won’t be the low point when a tail dragger is on the ground (my t-craft didn’t have that issue). Ran perfectly sweet till leveling out at 800’, then my very young son asked why the plane was so quiet... After paying an unscheduled visit to the farm of my in-laws on one of their fallow fields, the water was removed by raising tail, then flew it back. Water trapped in the wrong spot is “undesirable”. Drain water, then add some fuel additive, and done. If that’s the issue here.

Forgive the new member for not reading much yet of this thread or the many other threads that indicate that most users get way more than 3-4 yrs on a even a mildly cared-for odyssey...

San Diego Duc and MG dealer.... we have folks who live there and know them, I don’t... is it GP motorsports? Few hours to ride there and spend a day, if they are good and able.
-
Thx Scud - copied to my ride file for next visit down there. Cheers

Looks like the map link picks the most efficient route, rather than the route you built. I’m intrigued... Would love the map detail for that section of dirt u describe, to add to my options for that great area.

We share the sentiment about Adams, I just mistakenly deduced that he may have been from NZ from the earlier post. Both of my adult kids still befuddle their mother when they communicate with me in 1-liner quotes from an Adams book.
-
Was Adams a New Zealander? Like Germaine and Bret, and Xena?

+1 on the careful use of stripper. Small enough area that it’s not a pain. What will be the plan for the paint method? Tape&spray, or is it reasonable to powder coat with it still assembled?

That is indeed a beautiful collection!

The Motobatt that came with my son’s Cagiva lived a hard life, due to non realization for a number of years that it was a LiPo and not AGM (sigh), and consequently was handled improperly. In the end when it came out, not only had it been abused pretty badly, but it was also realized that it was very undersized for the application in the 904cc duc according to motobatt. But you never would have known while using the bike, as it took it all in stride. Just had the usual LiPo thing where it would behave sluggishly when it got real cold-soaked. moral of the story remains more or less as one might think: in the midst of strong support for one side or the other on LiPo or AGM, when looking at overall behavior rather than just single data points, they both seem truly fine. The AGM seem to last longer when properly cared for, and some argue are easier to care for. But the LiPo’s are of course much lighter and smaller, probably won’t last as long but will last a good number of years with their version of “proper care”, which others argue (not inappropriately) is easier than AGM battery care. Like you noted early on, its quite like an oil thread, with lots of anecdotes from everyone about why one is better than the other. My experience has been that way... had that early bad experience with LiPo, leaving me stranded a couple times, and some wise old KTM techs supporting that LiPo was junk. But since that time a number of years ago, am now instead having very good success with LiPo, and lots of other folks supporting that reality/view, along with touting the light weight and size. I’ll offer based on my own narrow experience, that if a LiPo gets too low on Voltage, such as in an application that has a small parasite draw even when the bike is off, it seems they don’t like to come away happy from that experience, unlike the AGM which have great recovery techniques one can use (as Docc and others have nicely explored and laid out). In my ADV bike that lives out of state and for which i want the highest reliability and no surprises, I’ve stuck with Odyssey. For the bikes in the shop at home that get trotted out seasonally and that i mess with a lot more in my own shop, I’ve become fond of the LiPo’s for their easy in & out and light weight, and the fact that once you get a handle on how they work they really are very reliable. For what its worth, several Cagiva fans I know of in your neck of the woods (UK) have voiced strong support for Motobatt as a brand.
