  1. I found the lack of ABS can also be a factor for a greater premium. Taking a safety riding course can be a decreasing factor, however.
  2. The principle was that, only from Farmers, only for cars. However, to prevent abuse, you had to tell which car was in storage, and which car was active ahead of time. At the time, I had multiple cars, only used one at a time. I would send an email, stating the day and the time, car 1 in storage, car 2 active. Or both cars in storage, or both cars active. The premium would be reduced accordingly, significantly, because I had the most comprehensive insurance policy. Since a lot of you on this forum have multiple motorcycles, I was curious if you had one policy per motorcycle, or if you had a compound = blanket coverage for several bikes, given that you could ride a single one at a time.
  3. Indeed. I am not really worried about material loss. Sure, it is annoying, but it is just "stuff" that you can replace. I however am very concerned with injury. Especially at my age, when everything takes a long time to fix itself. I do defensive driving, but there is only so much you can do. The daily traffic jams have exacerbated people's driving frustration, pushing them to take risks.
  4. There are a lot of differences with Europe here. Unlike Europe, you can be sued at a civil court for whatever reason the other party come up with, so you need to have some litigation protection. There are many lawyers specializing in personal injury claim. Also, if you are injured by an uninsured person, all the eventual medical expenses are out of your own pocket. Medical costs here are just unbelievable!
  5. I paid 327 dollars last year (12 months). This year, my premium is 302 dollars. But you have to factor in that I am a senior citizen.
  6. I am wondering if we can think of ourselves as true Moto Guzzi fans... Most of us live for their old glories; I find myself dying for more Moto Guzzi in my garage, but none of them modern! on my list is the slippery Quota, and I found out that I am seriously warming up to the California the EV 1100. I don't understand why the V100 Mandello nor the V100 Stelvio leave me cold. I wonder if it is not generation related? when I was younger, the vintage bikes did not really generate much interest. I was perusing all the new stuff catalogs. Today it is exactly the opposite.
  7. I have not seen one in the flesh here, but there aren't as many bikes at one place at a time as there are in Europe. Also, I need to factor the US is definitively very large. But when you ride towards a city in Europe, you are passed in continuation by motorbikes. I don't see that so much here, in Houston.
  8. Well, he could not find how to actuate the windshield.... He is one of those YouTube "influencers". I enjoyed watching the video, did not much care for what he was saying. I think the red V100 looks very good.
  9. If you own multiple motorcycles, you can't ride them all at once. Farmers, my previous insurance company, had a provision for owners who own multiple vehicles. You only ride one at a time, and the other is automatically in storage. Under storage, you are still covered for theft, fire, and other non-related to riding it incidents. It lowers the premium significantly. I am currently with Progressive, and they do not offer such a deal. Each vehicle is fully insured, even if in storage. Anyone knows of insurance making you pay a lump sum for all your motorcycles?
  10. Another very nice looking California Special Sport, this one with 23,300 miles. The seller has 98.9% rating on eBay and some oddities in his listing; such as tagging his used motorcycle as "new" and engine "1300", while his narrative states that he has been riding it for two years. He also says he is open to reasonable offers... I am already committed to that Red Quota in Peoria, but if I wasn't, I'd be very tempted. Now I am thinking a third motorcycle is kind of necessary too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/395126098463?hash=item5bff59ca1f:g:9xEAAOSwOrZlRBpJ Look at this beauty with the Guzzi bags!!!
  11. As long as the power holds, even if 50 is not much, especially indoors.
  12. Yes, my thoughts exactly; Moto Guzzi does not have the numbers to have their own engine. Nevertheless, I would never purchase a Moto Guzzi that I can't identify with. If I may use an analogy, to me, it would be like purchasing a Ducati without an L shaped Desmodromic engine. I know they made mono cylinders in the past, but today, anything Ducati is V2 or V4 Desmo. Even if I am aware they have produced non-Desmo engines like the V4 Granturismo using conventional spring valve return system, to increase maintenance intervals to every 60,000 km.
  13. Here we go... single digit temperatures in H'town. The good thing is so far, no power losses; at least not where I live.
  14. Moto Morini is owned by the Chinese Zhongneng Vehicle Group; not really a small company.
  15. You can pre-order your Stelvio (only if you live in Europe). https://www.motoguzzi.com/us_EN/models/stelvio/ It is available in two colors: Yellow Savanah and Vulcan Black. Two versions: Standard or with the Rider's assistance solution which is composed of: -Forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and warning, lane change assistance. Standard is 16,749 Euros or 17,549 Euros with the Piaggio PFF(Piaggio Fast Forward) assistance. Those prices include VAT. Standard includes ride by wire throttle, six axis IMU, cornering ABS, traction control, shifter up and down.
  16. And no water either... since all the water towers have been made redundant, no power means no water flow either. Food and heat can be mitigated, but the lack of water has the most unpleasant outcome.
  17. Piaggio has the means to do it, if they want to. But business is business. I had a discussion with Iron Supply Powersports last week; the owner told me he attempted to get Aprilia however Piaggio told him he could only get Aprilia if he took Moto Guzzi too. He told me he checked the sales data of Moto Guzzi in the USA, and declined Piaggio's offer. Even among us, Guzzi enthusiasts, only Tomchri has a V100S; do you know of anybody else who has one?
  18. Well, this morning we got a little taste of coldish weather, with 28 degF on the clock, while felt temperatures were much lower because of the wind and humidity. The big freeze is expected to happen tonight. I went out to protect the shrubs in full riding gear, and could still feel the howling wind hacking at me. So far, no power interruption.
  19. I doubt Piaggio would do that; it would be sacrilege... I think that since the 70's, Moto Guzzi has been known for their engine's typical architecture. I realize it's pretty standard to give multiple uses to a power plant, and it also saves the cost of developing a mid-size engine that would only be useable on a Guzzi? while a vertical dual cylinder may fit a Guzzi, the opposite may not go well on an Aprilia. Personally, an Aprila powered Moto Guzzi would not appeal to me. Modernize the V35 to V50 keep it air cooled and voilĂ ! no? Triumph, BSA, Royal Enfield do it. Triumph just came out with a completely new 400cc power plant... https://www.cycleworld.com/motorcycle-reviews/triumph-speed-400-exclusive-first-test-review/
  20. I admit this California specimen is really stun looking! If anyone is interested, I am going to post the eBay link here below; the "buy it now" price is USD 7,500; there is one bid at 4,995.00 USD "reserve not met" and 5 more days to go. https://www.ebay.com/itm/364678986881?hash=item54e88fbc81:g:hw4AAOSwQX9lnyD-
  21. I found a Texas based review of the Red V100 Mandello... What is hilarious, is that the reviewer could not get the windshield to move up. That generated a follow-up video by a real Guzzi owner, who kind of shamed him for not doing his homework before posting his video. I am not going to say anything about him messing up gear changes... This is the initial video shot around Austin Texas. I recognized the "highway" limited at 55 mph. Below is the counterstrike... a little sarcastic...
  22. I have not seen any so far. I have seen vintage photos when bikes would be completely assembled at a single post. I think I read somewhere that the new V100 power train was not manufactured at Mandello del Lario. I could guess that Piaggio/Aprilia have better facilities and ship the units completed and tested to Mandello. This has to be verified though. As Moto Guzzi, Aprilia's historical manufacturing plant was in Noale Italy. Piaggio who owns the two brands has a state of the arts facility in Scorzé Italy. I would think that Piaggio's assembly line is pretty much a carbon copy of that of Ducati. I can see that in the long term, Mandello del Lario will become more a sanctuary than a very active Guzzi headquarter. Sort of an empty shell. It may remains a Museum of the Moto Guzzi brand. I am planning to find out this summer, as I am thinking of heading to Italy on a memory tour.
  23. I worked there, I mean in Atyrau, on the Caspian Sea. My German colleague purchased an Ural side-car and went on a craze. Kazakhstan is beautiful, absolutely! Today it is more open than when I was there, until 2009. You can get a visa on arrival good for 15 days. Don't go there in winter, unless you like Siberian temperatures!
