  1. I knew this group would help me... Truley a bunch of Guzzie nuts, no matter the style of bike. Several good suggestions and I will check them all. Many have already been checked. The 10 gage wire to the rectifier was trashed but I found that before the rides. It looked as if melted before I replaced it. The fuel lines are as factory installed. Cross connect in place and both fuel stops functioning with out leaks. Could be the fuel tank vent, that one is easy to fix, should have thought of it myself. Very likely the electrical problems mentioned. The bike was owned by an electrician, had many electrical problems as a result of what he thought he could get away with. I will check one at a time untill the problem is solved. The bike is a totally different ride than my LeMans but is great fun. Riding around town is effortless and the bike draws a lot of attention. Mostly from people that have no idea what a Convert is! I am suprised by how well the old Tonti frame handels on twisty roads. The motor normally runs strong and smooth and has no trouble pulling away from a stop light. She is going to love this bike when she gets past that first bit of new rider fear. I will be checking in with the discussion group mentioned, hope they are as good as this group! Thanks again!
  2. I know its not V11 related but I also know the knowelege is out their... Gussesti's help me! I have been working on a "76" Convert for my wifes first ride. She has never done well with a clutch so a Convert looked pretty good. The bike was a real project @ $500 purchase price. During initial wrenching i learned that the transmition and clutch were toast, but the motor looked pretty good. Many months and lots of dollars later the first ride happened. Transmition and clutch worked well, motor strong untill.... It just died.. like a sudden fuel loss and spun down to a stop. I messed with the fuel lines a few seconds and it re-started. After some messing around the bike ran untill i got it home. Adjusted the carbs and stopped a few fuel leaks and all was well. Several short rides with out problems. Yesterday I rode it about 50 miles with lots of smiles. Stopped at home to tighten a few fastners and left home again. About 5 miles into the ride it died again, just stopped running and spun down to a stop again. After squeezing the fuel lines it would run for a few seconds then die again. Repeated 3 or 4 times and then it was problem free again. I don't think its fuel related but messing with the lines did something. I don't think its fuel related because both cylinders died at the same instant. The bike was equiped with points but was up-graded to the Dyna electric ignition. Carb re-build kits, new plugs, replaced starter relay, re-conditioned starter, new battery, several bad connections in the electrical system that were corrected, new fuses. Many new parts not related to electrical or fuel systems. Could weak coils or a bad rectifier board be a cause? Maybe I should also replace the ignition cabels and ends. They tested OK and looked good.... Any guesses would help me think it through. She is ready to get her permit but the bike is not ready for her..
  3. From a guy that used to ride a Quota... Looks like progress to me!
  4. Something seams wrong... The rubber thingy falls out of mine, giving me an oportunity to clean it. You should always have a clean thingy....

    Am I Wrong?

I say ride on, your a lucky man to be able! It's a big world out their, even the best get lost once in a while. I knowingly break the purists rules of Guzziology with geat zest. Make that bike yours and enjoy it to your standards... Ride on man, Ride on!
  6. Greg Your my hero! I'm sure your riding abilities exceed mine. I need that little bit of insurance, moving peg and nerves of pure stainless steel....
  7. I agree... I have the Cee-Bailey unit on my beemer and clear film on the Lemans. The film does distort the light beam a little, but not enough to cause any problem. That big ole honken headlight is one reason wy my old eyes like the Lemans. Just for fun... The headlight lense replacement cost on the beemer is greater than $400. My plastic cover has several nicks in it after about 62,000 miles.
  8. Another issue with Moto-bits item.. The pegs are solid mounted? Will not more if you drag the pavement, sounds like a real downer..
  9. I can't help but comment on this one... My new Avon had 500 miles on it when I plugged it. I have a plug kit that I bough from JC Whitney. Mushroom shapped plugs, positioned with a plug gun. The tire has over 6000 miles on it now. I admit that I don't ride at warp speed but I do ride alot, the tire getts plenty warm on a regular basis. I'm not a road racer but I've plugged several tires and they usually don't leak. The tire will be replaced early this season, that my personal suggestion, finish the season and replace if the plug doesn't leak. 95 mph is not legal in Ohio anyway, thats what the officer told me!
  10. Sorry, no pictures today. Ducati, rubber covered foot pegs Went looking for the parts numbers from the package; R.H. Foot-Rest 46410171A (PEDANA DX 620-750-900M/02) $25.82 each L.H. Foot-Rest 46410181A (PEDANA SX 900M/00 620-750M/02) At the time you just couldn't get Guzzi parts so I subsituted several Ducati parts. Don't think I saved any money but they fit nice.
  11. If your thinking about "stock" like pegs... I found a set at the local Dicati shop, rubber covered and exact fit. I think it was from a Monster.
  12. Count me In! AND.. Thanks, your efforts and posting are a considerable achievement...
  13. Nice Work! Thats all my Lemans and knees are missing, interested in producing a few sets for sale? I'll bet you get a bunch of interested Guzziesti...
  14. Just a bit curious... How much weight could the average V11 shed if the rider stoped eating cheese burgers and drinking beer? Two or maybe three lbs.?
  15. Thanks for the suggestions and the link. My parts list arrived today and I found more info in Guzziology. Looks like the gear box and torc converter need to come off, If I can find the parts. I guess the control rod is hard to find. I'll make some calls...
  16. Last winter I repaired a crashed V11 Lemans, 6,500 miles on it this season and only one speeding ticket... This winter I'm repairing an old V1000 Convert. My wifes first bike, I thought the semi-auto transmition, floor boards and brake pedal would be a great learners bike. Bought the bike cheap, It has some needs... Question: The clutch control arm, pivot and everything aft of the cable is missing. Do I need to pull the gear box to replace the actuator rod? I'm waiting on a parts list from Moto International to help me. Guzziology doesn't say much on the topic. I'm thinking some of the older V11 guys might remember a similar project. Any advise?
  17. ShiftyAl: Had some trouble sending you photos, don't have the software I need. Please see PM about RMS seat.
  18. ShiftyAl: I have a custom seat that should fit. I bought it after seeing only pictures and it doesnt fit me. I'm 5'10" and the "bucket' is to far back for me. A RMS or Rick Myers Saddle with black leather. The pilon cover will not work on this seat. 2002 V11 lemans seat pan. PM me if you want more info.. Good luck with your project...
  19. Memories from our youth, so long ago in a small town in Ohio... The jap bikes never got much attention but several Harleys, BMWs and Guzzis did. I was a paper boy and rode my bicycle all around town. I noticed even then that the Harleys spent most of thier time in the front yards getting polished. The Beemer & Guzzi guys were never around and thier bikes always needed washed... A man just down the street had a guzzi and would tolerate my help with maintenance. He still has that Guzzi, I visited him recently to show off my LeMans. We talked for hours and he hopes to get that old Guzzi back on the road for next season. I had an uncle (God rest his soul) that gave me my first ride on a Harley. He then turned me loose on a small trail bike (Honda trail 90) and let me ride his large estate. That was my first crash, couldn't get the bike stopped and rode it off of a dock on a small fishing pond.... He just laughed, I was mortified, I think the trail 90 is still in that pond! Years later I'm picking up my son from Grandma's on a small jap enduro, he fell asleep on the bike and his helmet lands with a thump on my back. Practice those one handed quick stops, you never know!
  20. Another fine machine coming to OHIO! We have a few small rallies around, also breakfasts twice a month for most of the year. More to follow... Please make a safe trip home and watch the troopers. The Carolina states and Virgina can be costly....
  21. All that JRT mentioned is real good advise.... I suggest some kind of butt pad. I use an Alaska Leather sheepskin cover at times($50). The Guzzi seat is good for about 200 miles, then grows teeth! Your looking at around 1000 miles? When you get that Guzzi back to Ohio, we have a few regular gatherings you might want to attend. We can never replace your brother but we can be "brothers in arms". Welcome!
  22. Thank you Crooz! Mr. Gustafson gets my vote... The Quota was a blast too, trying to get that bike back with the Gustafson windshield, huge Russell seat and all.

    Icon recon jeans

I have been using the Icon riding jeans. Not all that protective, but much cooler than the better protective riding jeans. Comfortable and make you think your protecting yourself. Look for "Dragon Jeans" they are kevlar reinforced at the knees and seat. Good protection but kevlar is a great insulator, Monkey Butt Warning!
  24. The bar risers are from forum member zebulon and are hard to get. The most cost effective method i found because you don't need to replace tubes and cabels. I was able to raise 3" and back 3" for about $350. My next goal is a Russell seat, hence the side view photo. They want to see a photo of riding posture to build the seat. My first attempt at posting photos...
  25. Yes it's different.... Gustafson +5" With SAeng winglet mounted on top + micro-swirl edging. My excusse for modifications is an old neck injury. Pain would limit my ride without the extras. The combination works well for me, cause I'm a little different to...
