  1. Well I like it.. This from a guy that road a Quota, and modified my LeMans for comfort. "Jugly" a new, fun word for me to play with..
  2. Joe: FYI I installed a set called "Hot Grips" on my Lemans. No fancy cut outs, just a hi-low-off switch. A small diameter grip and they work quite well. My set was about $60.00 a couple years ago. My local BMW shop has them for about $80.00 now. I also insatlled them on a Quota I had several years ago, a friend still has the bike and the grips still work. Just a suggestion...
  3. I have an idea... I went to the local Harley shop and purchesed mirriors for a Buell Lightning. They reach out a couple inches futher and cost half as much as Guzzi stuff. Looks a little strange but I can see past my shoulders.
  4. Scotch: Did you clean those brake assemblies well before reinstalling when you check the brake pads? The rear brake assembly has a tendency to drag when dirty...
  5. Jon: Sorry to hear of your accident and I'm glad your around to sell the parts and pieces... Front end damage? Is the fairing mount trashed? I need one...
  6. I had a similar problem with my Convert. After some head scratching and cursing I tracked it back to a short in the head light beazel. The problematic conector block grounded out to the beazel causing the starter to engage constantly. If I remember correctly, the top two wires outboard in the connector block. Just a suggestion, I'm no expert!
  7. Short Intro... Last summer (95 deg. F day) communting home from work I was stuck in trafic from a crash. You know, Idel a few seconds then roll ahead a few seconds... This went on for well over an hour, I then was able to exit the 4 lane and start all over again on a 2 lane. Another hour of this and me and the bike were pretty hot. I pulled off and let her cool a bit then started again. I finnaly got my turn at the stop sign and the LeMans died... Battery was hot and she wouldn't crank, luckly a slight down hill and I could "bump start". Finally free and rolling again the bike cooled down and ran well again. Since then oil leaks have started, I think from the engine case and left cyclinder base gasket. I've been told that this gasket will leak if the cyclinder head bolts come off spec. for torque. I plan to check torque and set valves, full winter time service, ect. ect. Should I also order new head and cyclinder base gaskets now? Or is it possible that setting the correct torque will stop the "oil weep"? What say you?
  8. I have the SAeng. microswirl edging on my LeMans. Works well but is "bulky" looking. It's kind of high priced but does serve a function. Easy to install and stays put...

    I want a squarehead!

I think they are called Hepco. On the Quota one side is larger than the other due to the exhaust. The bags are pretty good, mine never leaked and I had them in a bunch of foul weather. I found a forum for the Quota. I'm sure a quick search will show you the way. Much like this forum, they know thier bike and will have all the answers... If you are a memeber of the MGNOC you may see an add for Eish Enterprises. I believe a 2002 Quota that has never been titled can be found... Happy Hunting! The V11 LeMans is a blast to ride and I'm really enjoying mine. The Quota had to go in order for me to get mine. Some times these life choices are hard... (8 valve, Stelivo, 1200 Sport) Oh, the choices we make....

    I want a squarehead!

Depends on the tires, I had good sucess with the Metzler dual sport type (tourance?). Several trips over Deals Gap in the Smokies and lots of commuter miles. Holds the road pretty well but would never keep pace with a V11. Mine had a power comander, double cross-over and Remus exhaust. Russell saddle, hard bags and a big windshield. I used to have a lot of fun suprising the BMW GS guys with the sound and performance. They would get in front of me on dry pavement, power for electrical gadgets and MPG. But I could give them a great run on the gravel... I really miss that bike!

    I want a squarehead!

I had a Quota for a while. Great on gravel, not so great off road. It is a fun and comfortable bike, I tried to buy it back from my freiend and he won't part with it. About 50,000 miles on it now with original motor and drive train. I'm hold out for the Stelivo (?), more power, better lights I hope...
  12. I'm with ProfWako on this one.... The HP sport caught my eye but the price hurts, so maybe a used one some day...
  13. Hey Richard! Those gloves would look good with your mask, you know, holloween mask...
  14. I've got to speak up about Jean Marc's product. In my case I was able to bring the clip-ons up & back 5.5" without changing out the hoses. That is a bargin... Also very adjustable for over all width. With the forward foot controls from another member and a good seat I can ride all day in comfort. Great stuff!
  15. I like it! I've been thinking of doing the same to mine. Bought it crashed a few years back and the "beer" color is pretty scratched up... Noticed that they managed to get the eagles pointed in the right direction, good...
  16. I've had my "02"Lemans now for a couple riding seasons. Bought it crashed and did repairs to get back on the road. I've decided I really like this bike and should make it pretty again. I have found new fairing parts (without bondo and cracks) but the mounting sub-frame is all messed up. Anybody have a used one for sale??? Guzzi part number 0157-8660 Please Help!
  17. Good Stuff! I use Gerbings socks and pant liner with a BMW vest (old style). Have'nt had any problems yet, but I turn off rolling into town unless 30 something F. Also have Hot Grips on the bike for those required winter rides, sanity promoting crazyness...... Don't know why but my old Quota wouldn't handle the same load.... Thanks for recording the readings..
  18. Richard has it right.. It's really St.Augustine (SP?) Florida. He offeres several not shown on the web site, so call. I have a Gustafson +5 on my Lemans, and have had others over the years. Slow to ship but otherwise great stuff! Others on this forum have less pleasing opinions about Gustafson.
  19. Can't resist another shot... KLR is a 650 cc single and the GS a 1200 cc twin. What kind of comparison is this? Why not consider the KLR to the 650 cc single BMW? That might be to close a call to snipe about? I'm still suffering brain damage from my off road crashes, last one on a Honda 600 cc thumper... Are you still suffering to? It's all fun until the bone shows!
  20. Can't resist this thread... I've had a few BMW's and they are not bullet proof! I just spent a couple grand getting my R1150RT back on the road. Clutch Kit & spline, towing bill and truck rental. They never break down at home.... I've also had a few Guzzie's. They have never (yet) left me walking. I think that generally, you can tell when a Guzzie is going to have a fit. The BMW gave no warning... IMHO you will face two problems. Ergo's, that can be corrected for less money than custom BMW stuff, and storage / bags. Generally not as many options as BMW. Count on poor gas milage but lots of smiles. Caution, the V11 is not near as forgiving on the road. If at all possible, add the V11 to you list.
  21. "02" Lemans purchased November, "05" with 17,200 miles CRASHED Many modifications since, mostly comfort issues. Now has 26,600 miles. First long distance trip this September, hope to see a few of you at T.W.O.!
  22. I agree... I used a few different brand names to the same end. Not all of us are race types. A few like to build miles on the odometer with out feeling physically beat up. These bikes are a blast!

    MPH bar riser

I have a suggestion that may earn a "bodge Point"... I installed a similar set that I purchased from a forum member... Same cable problem. I re-routed to the out-side of shocks and cut a notch in the plastic cover (frame cover) to allow full movement to the right. It was also nessary to change the angle of the banjo fitting at the top. With the right amount of re-routing you can make the existing cable work.
  24. Just an up-date... The old Convert rides again... JRT and Mr. Roper set me on the right path... The problem turns out to be the low voltage lines from the Dyna box to the distrubutor. Bad splice, wonder what that old electrician that had it before had against solder??? I've put about 500 miles on the clock and my Wonderfull (3 bikes now) wife has had her first riding lesson in a big empty parking lot. The learner permit and open road is not far away now.... Thanks for the advise, it really helped me think it through.. Some free advise: (Just for laughs) It's easy-er to teach a person that has not seen you naked!
  25. Received my set and have them installed. I very happy with the quality, craftmanship and comfort! Thank You Ryland 3210!
