  1. No photoshopping, this is a real screendump! ...but the Quest sometimes is a bit mixed up, while searching for the satelites he may be confused. I had a top speed of 1274kmh once... So no photoshopping... (I updated the firmware, shouldn't happen anymore)
  2. No problem... post a picture and I will post an customized one... "Quest users help eachother" (at least if they ride V11's)... You can also use Ximage to get screenshots from your Quest, for example you can see here (bottom left)that the Lemans is capable of 265kmh (with a lot of patience) ...
  3. If you want to replace your old startup screen of the Quest with a Lemans style, you can use this file: Short howto: - Download Ximage from garmin - Download your current startup screen and back it up - Save the file posted here (do not change it or make sure that it's saved as bmp (8bits) and hat the colordepth is not changed), and give the same name as your startup screen (!) - Upload to your Quest et voila: everytime you turn on your GPS, the Lemans smiles at you... KiloSjon PS off course at your own risk, if you're not sure, see the help file of Ximage or drop me a PM...
  4. Thx and wrt the Homage, I think the design/concept as is points to the LM1 pipes enough, so no rework on the xover (getting the cans right seems hard enough). @paul: thanks, I will work this out more and post it here (with a first shot on the measurements...)
  5. Thanks, this results in this two alternatives: If I understand Skeeve correct, this is his proposal: And Paul, this should be in line with your ideas: I like this last concept, although I wonder if the connection with the Competiziones is clear, since they are known by their "kink". See:
  6. Looking at the budget of the owner: something from East Germany? An MZ 250?
  7. That's where I'm affraid off, any ideas on how to define the minimum hight? The lower pipes look pretty cool, and although I use all the rubber on my rear tire, I am not into kneedowns etc..
  8. For a while now I am thinking on how to adjust the original competizione design to the the style of the v11. Like the fairing, a one on one copy will not look right, since the v11 is a much more fat design, and so the mufflers will have to be fat as well... Using photoshop I have made some (very rough) sketches to see how it will look. This one has high up cans, not that classic, but I think pretty nice: This one is more classic, low matt black mufflers, but I think a lot of ground clearance is lost: Any thoughts? Ideas? Off course, deciding the design is the easy part, but I've found a small custom performance exhaust manufacturer who does one offs. Once I decide on the design, I will check out the possibilities (and possibly end up with standard ti's... but hey, at least I tried...) (Couldn't find a high res picture of a champagne le mans, if you have one, please let me know, because than I can really see how it will work...) Oh, by the way, the high version are more or less available as standard: see SIL motor But I also want to add the red propellor:
  9. There is a pair on Ebay, still expensive, but may be someone is interested?
  10. On my previous bike (Honda VF1000F) I had 40l krauser bags, they made you feel like driving a truck, but you could easily stow a jacket and helmet. This is very handy when visiting towns during a trip and improves daily use a lot. I must say that driveability is influenced and that I had a lot increased tire wear. (but I was forced to use BT45's, and they are known for that)
  11. It's leaking oil so it could be british... Can't find any pictures, but it is said that Royal Enfield had a prototype of a straight four, the 846 in 1919. A very long shot, since they normally don't have a telescopic front fork and no shaft drive...
  12. the closest I get: the Danish Nimbus (the worlds first motorcycle with a telescopic front fork) Nimbus club Denmark Wikipedia [edit]not that close, but I can't find anything closer...[/edit]
  13. The allies meet: British frame (Excelsior) meet American engine (Indian)
  14. A while ago a Opel Vectra parked next to my V11, from a distance it was exactly the same color! Googled and the colorcode could be 123 - Champagnebeige (no joke, see the Belgium Opel forum ) Opel (or Vauxhall in the UK) is part of GM. Let us know the result, I have some things I want to repair also...
  15. I once got a ticket from a speeding camera, and since I could download the Garmin GPS trackdata I could check my speed according to the gps at that point. They said they measured 90kmh and corrected it to 86kmh. My GPS said I was doing exactly 86kmh (in a 80kmh zone).
  16. I have Alpine Otoplastics... I always had them in with my previous helmet (Arai Jet), my current BMW EVO5 helmet is so quiet, I don't miss them anymore, but on long highway trip I always wear them (and also at night at bikecampings when the harleys are revved at 4:00am ... )
  17. Here you get an idea (it's in Dutch, but viamichelin.com will also work off course)
  18. I know, but there are some places where you don't want anything to break... (not only on your bike... )
  19. Thanks... I should have bought this earlier, it really helps...
  20. Perhaps you could modify a bar end... Little flap on it to set the position. Have to look at the bike if that's possible, but may be worth a try...
  21. Also on how to get rid of the existing flaky paint? Paintremover + steelbrush? Or completely remove the cylinders for sand / pearl blast?
  22. Rcono, I got it the first time, and took it as a form of the well known Mastercard jokes (dress $150, tequila 80$, lying asleep on a crossroad with your pants down PRICELESS). If admit, the Guzzi experience for me so far really is priceless, big bangs for a reasonable buck. Enjoy this forum, it also is priceless (although you might want to help Jaap/Paul with donating a few bucks for the hosting and maintenance) KiloSjon
  23. I worked so hard last weeks, that I thought I could by myself a present. Because of the plans I have next winter, I'm trying to complete my toolset. So I bought a good torque wrench. 10 to 50NM, should be enough. Off course I can find the specific torque settings for the engine, but are there also any rules of thumb for normal work? For example I read that a 6mm screw normally would be tightened with 10NM. Any other rough estimations or should you always search for the specific settings? Thx, KiloSjon
  24. The real classic would be the V11 playboy version, because of the brand and copyrights it was way so expensive that it didn't sell... (According to Ted from Motortoer) To be honest, and coming from a Japanese marque, I think that in a few years this question is as relevant as the question on which Jaguar E-type you have or which Harley WLA or WLC.... But an indication of the production number would be interesting. For example, of the yellow GL1000 Goldwing I owned, only 200 were made. The Gl1000 sold very badly in the early years, it actually was positioned as a sportsbike. But because the only 1000cc engine honda had was an experiment on a double BMW engine, which was good for torque, bud very very bad for ground clearance and the top end performance, although having 80hp, was not excellent... So they took back 200 blue GL's and replaced the bodywork with yellow, trying to match the strategy of kawasaki with the Z1000 (in green). It didn't help. Only when Honda started to notice that quite a few riders placed big Vetter fairings on, they say the capability of the Goldwing as a touring bike, and not as the sportsbike they wanted it to be. That's why the GL1100 was available with and without fairing, but they practically only sold it with fairing. Sorry for this non-guzzi interuption of this topic, I only wanted to state that production nr's and strategies are very interesting (and one of the reasons why I really loved Greg Fields book...)
