Whew! That was alot to read. Funny, really , how the trends in motorcycles and firearms parallel. Keep it box-stock? Mod it to the max? It is after all my bike (rifle). I was right proud to finally find a replacement for my Dad's '03A3. It's an early example but built in the last year of the '03 ( 1939) then arsenal rebuilt in'44 and apparently sent to Turkey on Lend-Lease. The sights are hard for my sorry-ass eyes to see but , trust me, you don't want me shootin' at you with at. At any range. My CMP ( DCM) Garand turned out to be a real shitter. As you may know, you can go to an affiliated rifle range and shoot a high powered military rifle to qualify for application to buy a US rifle from the US Army arsenals. It took me 2 years to finally get my Garand. So often club guys would bring by their impeccable examples to show off. Mine came with mismatched wood and a mighty greasy stock. But the first time I shot it, under very poor conditions, made me respect the ol' horse. 2 MOA? Well, a lot depends on the (medium) old eyes. But I did refinish it, and , while not box-stock-linseed -oil mil-spec, it is a beauty, and it is MY Garand. And you don't want me shootin' at you. From any range.

It's looking like the departure from the Cracker Barrel in Columbia will move up 2 hours: meet at 0630 and leave when enough coffee has been imbibed, like an hour later. This way we'll hope to beat the heat and the threat of the Tropical Storm off the coast of South Carolina.

Win Mod 70 occurred to me. Also Remington Mod 700. I've never been much of a bolt guy preferring the gas rifles. I thought that Win mag round was .358?

Seems like my regulator was about $400. Ouch to burn up a second one even at $145. Definately worth unwrapping every splice. Voltage drop tests may be helpful as well. Here in Lower Middle Tennessee , we're specialists in faulty wiring. Can be handy for insurance purposes.

The second chick from the right appears to be the retriever - not armed yet dangerous. The Socom is the more modern iteration of the M1A (M14). It was adopted ny the US Army in 1957 and replaced by the M16 6 years later about the time Carcano and Todero were penning the Guzzi V-twin. The blast will lay the grass back 10 feet around the shooter. Feels kinda like getting passed by Andy York's LeMans with its beastly pipes.

Bill, I thought you had a spare spring to act as a talisman hung to dangle like a karma bell to keep the spring gremlin away.

Fed, Do a search for GEI relays from Dan Prunuske. This is about 60 % sure to solve your trouble. Changing the battery ( Orangeokie will be along in a moment to help you"know the rules") increases your solution chances to 75%. After that there are a simple series of fixes and tweaks that will likely run the nasty gremlin off. Stick with us and let us know how it goes. Good luck!

The usual approach is to spray it with carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner. A change in idle quality is positive for a leak. Several wraps of good electrical tape may be expedient while the global Guzzi parts supply stabilizes.

Dlaing's voltage test is critical to assess the charging. As much as the Cobra has been 'tinkered' with it might be time for a thorough look at the wiring harness and connectors . Some bare wire against the frame would 'splain it all, yes?

My Dad always used an '03A3 "AughtSix" Springfield for deer hunting. I once read "the Springfield was a fine target rifle, the Mauser a fine hunting rifle and the Enfield a fine battle rifle." I've often felt the V11 Sport is much like my M1A (M14). Like the Garand , or especially the Beretta BM59 which followed, they're a bit heavy and hard to control, not for the novice, robust and a delight in use. Something about those thirty-cal rounds going off has the feel of the Guzzi at full chat.

I just tuned the Sport after about 5000 miles ( I usually do the 6000 mile interval at 4000). The valves looked good having loosened from 0.005/0.007 to 0.006/0.008 and the plugs had good color but the typical dark stripe down one side, maybe a lttle crusty on the grounding electrode. No difference in the ride at that point. I then reset the TPS to 160mV ( from 150) and resynched the throttle bodies at 4000 rpm. What a difference in the ride!! The revving is so eager, no hiccups, flat spots or hesitation even just off idle or at low revs. It wasn't like it was running 'badly' before, but what an enjoyable improvement! PS: of course there is always a price to pay. At 4000 rpm on the side stand the bike waked backwards about a foot and a haly while the vibration pitched my VOM to the floor. The TPS idle measure went from 525mV to 575 mV. I fear my Triplett meter is a casualty of home wrenching.

When my regulator went bad last year I found the 30a fuse was all melting from heat. Why it never blew is one of those electickery mysteries.

What kind of animals does that make us?

These have rubber intakes like the later V11? TBs that squeek make me think of an intake leak . . .

Changed plugs, checked valves . . . nice, but, set the TPS and synched the TBs and !!! what a jolt! It's not like she was running badly before but OH is she ready to go now! Something like how your Golden Retriever acts when you take the double gun down from the wall and hitch up the boat . . .

I checked my tool kit on the 2000 Sport. The spark plug wrench doesn't have the hex key on its backside.

I bought the beautiful billet tool from my Guzzi dealer but it came with out the hex side and is only for the filter. So , I had to have one of these as I'm tired of the axle nut solution. But, now I see THIS POST. Could it be so simple? None of us have seen this before?

Time to chime in, I suppose. I've always admired the 'Sport-tourer' class of bike. The Honda Pan and BMW K1200 GT both come to mind and are often benchmarks for the genre. Several aspects haev always brought me short of bringing one home. Honestly, I just don't ride that far. Maybe two or three 500-1500 mile trips a year but mostly cafe jaunts and little burn-ups averaging 75 miles. Second, the weight. Pans and the GT both weigh on at 750 pounds. That's a big lady for my 165#, 5'9" self. Having lived in Bavaria as a youth I've always wanted to like BMW motorcycles. Unfortunately , they lack that brio that keeps us enamoured with our Guzzis. I suspect riding the available Sport-tourers back to back would reveal the built in fun factor of the Nor-gay. Finally, my bubble of desire for a Sport-tourer has largely been burst by the trend toward the Duel-Sport (sic), Adventure-tourer, Dirt-bagger sort of bike. Several of the experienced riders I know have graduated to this aspect of riding and I have grown to admire the appeal. Sit-up position, weather protection, long travel suspension make for some real time advantages on today's roads. Maybe a Breva based 550# Quota . . . but what would they call it? Allis-Chalmers?
