I put the Ohlins Forks on my Sport and love it! It was an expensive upgrade at $2000+, but worth it to me. Now, I just have to save up for the Ohlins shock. I would say that an Ohlins equipped bike is worth nearly $3000 more....mostly for the comfort and increased control on very bumpy roads. If you get the cheaper bike, you can always upgrade later, or just go for re-springing, sooner. How much you weigh might effect your decision. The Ohlins are good for a 160 to 240 lb rider without a great need to re-spring. The Sachs/Marzocchi are good for a 90 to 170 lb rider without a great need to re-spring. (note those are guesstimates and many will disagree on what the proper spring rate is...but the Ohlins are firmer) I mostly like my Ohlins fork because the ride is more comfortable.

But for the most fun on wheels you need to look for something likeFurthur, with six wheels! I wonder if I am too much of an old fuddy duddy to buy a magic bus(with rack on back for the goose) and travel round the world...or atleast a couple of continents.

That is a great price! I wonder if he has manuals for those forks???? The manuals posted on Ohlins' web site are for slightly different models.

I think they indicate you do get small gains from most aftermarket modifications. Louder, freeer mufflers are a bit of a trade off, but increase peak power. Crossovers give more mid-range power if you don't already have the front balance pipe that was added in 2003 and 2004. Eliminating the airbox lid adds a little power. Porting adds a little power High Compression pistons add a little power. Re-mapping adds more power, but more importantly driveability and a potentially longer lasting engine. Add just one or two things and youre quarter mile time will drop a fraction of a second and maybe the noise will make you think your bike is even quicker. Add all these things and you will have a significantly more exhillarating bike. Is it worth the trouble? I think we each have our own opinion on that.

I recently saw an interesting CBC documentary: "Water for profit" : http://www.cbc.ca/news/features/water/ But, no mention of Canada looking for an angle on sales to the US....

"morbid twat!" What crawled up your hole and died? This thread gave me more confidence to go fast in my Arrow convertible retractable chin bar helmet! This thread gave me more respect for leather faced, goggle wearing nut cases. Although now I have less faith in my Snell approved Shoei...

I love how his photos have the low lit Halogen lighting, rather than the simple bulb flash/ flourescent combination. And his web site is first class too! Happy Trails!

Can't believe I am defending Bush, but this is from Snopes.com So, is a decreasing percentage coming from Canada and Mexico? Snopes probably did not want to dig too deeply into that one. Shall we start a Global Petroleum Conspiracy thread? Estimates are we have about 30 years of oil from known reserves and the cost of finding new reserves or accessing those reserves is rising. Iraq invaded Kuwait because Kuwait broke an agreement to fix prices, which cost Iraq Billions of dollars. The subsequent invasions by the US to ensure US control of prices has been a very costly endeavour....ie. probably over a Trillion dollars if you add everything up. The Venezuelan situation is fascinating, where the leader stands up for the poor, keeps prices high, faces US backed coups, and a media that portrays him as a monster. GWB must really want to asassinate Chavez. Even the global warming argument has divided sides in the Petro industry. Exxon says burning petroleum will not increase the potential global warming problem. BP and Shell, who make solar panels, say it is a concern. Doesn't it seem responsible to humanity to let nations hold on to oil reserves and to increase use of petroleum alternatives.

Could you move the taillight further forward, under the cowling? But it looks like the turnsignals would then hide behind the mufflers Nice looking bike. Have you checked out Kellermann's halogen turnsignals. Their bar-end signals are very nice. http://newr3.com/html/kellermann_turn_signals.html or here http://www.whaccessories.com/Turn%20Signals.htm

All great geniuses are named either Albert or David Wish he returns soon. A few others have been missing for a while. Brian Robson (guzziless) Captain Nemo (too busy with Honda) Bento Janusz Lex Russ DavidB just came back (must be cause he is a Genius, as evidenced by the name and the faith in RamAir) gary cheek Dave Pott (more missing genius) thundering subhash ...and many more Maybe it is just Winter... BFG, if you are reading this you realize that Friz gave up his goose and got a gentlemanly response. So, we aren't really neanderthal thugs

weird, so just three lost days. Better that than permanent memory problems We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for Ingrid!
-
So, do you have it like the guy in the movie, "Memento" who can't remember anything for more than a few seconds, but your memory lasts about three days? Or did you have complete memory loss for 3 days, but got your memory back after 3 days?.... so it was not permanent? A few years ago I fell down some stairs, hit the back of my head and for a while got reoccuring hallucinations or intensifications of smells. Actually, I think I still get them, but it is less frequent and intense. I met a dyno guy today, Louie of L&L, who got CO asphyxiation, which messed up his signals temporarilly, so that he did not know where he had been, but he knew where he was going. He told some story of working the dyno at the track, getting a headache, giving a guy a ride home on his way home, but ending up back at the track, and calling his wife to find out where he was supposed to be. Crazy stuff. He'll be doing Dyno runs tomorrow in San Diego see http://www.buymoto.com if any San Diegans are interested... And he really is a sharp guy...just temporary damage...

What a great story! Wish I had the balls of that giant! I know the Right winger atheists on the list think he got what he deserved, and him blindly shooting the arrow to church had nothing to do with his Karma. (maybe some recently fed kid ran got the arrow and brought it to the church, but it still is a good story) I wonder how many other Robbing Hood stories are out there??????

My personal bias it to go with Doug tuning the ECU rather than the PCIII and I have bent over backwards to keep my bias out of your decision. But I believe that without bias, given your current symptoms, it is best to go with Doug. Be sure to tell him all about your symptoms and how you did a complete tune-up that has not fixed it. He may additionally have to check your sensors, etc. With his software, that may be trivial. Note the above image may or may not represent the capabilities of his software.

I vote: No Bodge Points for the mobile swamp cooler. One Bodge Point for the 30A fuse. One Bodge Point for continuing to use the 7A fuse. Just because you may eventually cook your ECU does not mean that you'll figure out the problem that way...in fact it will barely help the diagnosis, and it will just mean one more ECU for Cliff to use to make MY15s with.

No comprende, seƱor. ...to go pee?????? ...to go ping?????? ....to go gah-gah?????? ......to go, my gawd, what am I reading!????????? Sorry if I posted my last post in the wrong thread. I figured it made sense because of the direct ECU tuning's advantage of timing adjustability. I am not sure Doug Lofgren would optimize both timing and fueling for only $500, but hey, you never know.

which is much cooler than this http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/...%20-%201912.WMV

If the cracks have already started, you may want to drill stop cracks, that is drill a 1/8inch or so, hole at the end of the crack to prevent it from proceeding. This ofcourse is an ugly bodge technique. If you combine it with reinforcement, you can probably drill a much smaller hole...or no hole...I am not sure if no hole is ok

So, I am slowly marching forward. I received my Innovation LM-1 with RPM kit yesterday, but I think I'll be lucky to get it installed within a month... As a recap, I have been remedying my pinging by adding fuel. (and a little retarding of the ignition) But I found this interesting article from http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources/news4.php : It provides me a little more clarity on the relationship of timing and mixture. So, now I have more faith to back the timing off a bit. When I went on the tuning link dyno, they may have actually gotten the mixture "right" where it was pinging by leaning it out. Assuming they got it more or less correct, I do not need to add fuel there, I just need to retard the ignition to add both power and efficiency. Just adding fuel has been inefficient, polluting, carbon building, and power robbing. The wideband controller should help me determine what is optimal. But I will have to learn how much timing messes up the accuracy of the wideband readings. Generally I assume more advance will make it read leaner....which is why multi-gas analysis would be more ideal.

That is probably because you are a good mechanic. I had a 280SE and a 450SEL I spent more time in the junk yard looking for parts for them. Was always looking for a seat in good enough condition not to ruin my back but never found one. Loss of oil pressure while mom was driving killed the 280SE. A grossly leaking transmission less than a year after an expensive tranny overhaul, and the 450SEL became a donor. Total depreciation, 100% Never again thank you...but then again the diesels still appeal to me. From now on it is Toyota, Toyota, Toyota...wish they made motorcycles.

Maybe older geezers are immune: The article said: I think one thing to rember is to keep your chin down when crashing. I suspect that someone with an open-face helmet will naturally keep their chin down more someone with a full-face helmet. Football(soccer) players head the ball at the top of the forehead. Those crazy kung fu guys crack blocks of ice with the top of the forehead. I suspect that the top of the forehead is a better one point landing place than straight into the face. Also, I was taught not to stick my arms out while crashing, but a broken arm beats a broken skull. Knowing when to roll is another strategy, but I think we generally get pitched to fast to roll. Are there advantages to different riding positions? A motocross position seems to high, so you have further to fall. What about the laid back cruiser position from the 28" saddle with ape bars and highway pegs compared to the clip-ons and rear-sets crotch rocketing position???? What do you think?
-
I have trouble with this concept, " The cushioning potential of facial fracturing" not that I doubt it, but just thinking about it But the study does give me more faith in my flip-up full face helmet. I guess there is no study on wearing a boxer's mouth piece(unused

Do you mean the box does not have to come out for Pete to inspect the work or to complete the recall work? I am pretty sure the box has to come out to complete the recall, although they save alot of time if they only replace parts accessible through the left cover. Wasn't there some dealer in the US that claimed to do the recall work on a bike with a salvaged title or something like that, but the tranny failed, was taken apart, and it was discovered the work had not been done. I think that dealer only took the chance on making free money from MGNA because the bike was a salvage job....but I may be off on some details, like maybe it was not a salvage job and it did not fail, etc. If you search the forum, the story is here some place. EDIT I just tried searching and could not find it. Does anyone else remember the story? It seems to me that not completing the work is grossly negligent, and as big as bonehead that this dealer seems to be, it is highly unlikely that they would stoop so low...but the story I just mentioned shows it is possible for people to be so greedy or lazy.
